Now, just throwing in a wild idea:


You become a baseball and experience how it feels like to be thrown violently, hit with a piece of wood, spinning wildly while traveling in the air...

You would get to experience how baseball game looks if you were a baseball.

They needed a good ball physics engine to do this, hence the effort.

Just throwing in another idea... sorry I don't have an intention to spam the thread, but need a break when I'm getting stuck in my office during MLK Jr. day weekend...


How about this:

You become part of the broadcasting camera crew and choose the best cuts in real time for broadcast during a CPU vs CPU game (offline) or online game between some other guys or something...


I guess don't know how this can be competitive and intuitive way to enjoy baseball.......

Another wild idea, but would be kind of cool as well:

So you start off by creating a team (yes, they give you the option to actually create a team, maybe with a generic logo and stadium and stuff) and you draft/are given a random pool of either generic or pretty poor players.

Through playing games (let's say it's online), you earn credits/cash. You spend what you earn to buy MLB players of your choice (assuming you can afford them). Players that are extremely good will obviously cost a lot of money. Eventually some online users will get these guys, and this is important for the next part of this mode...

Here's the big kicker: any time that you beat a team, you may now choose to take a player from their team, any player that you would like, and you will now give them one of your players. Now your team is assumed to be a bit more bolstered, and their team will be that much worse.

Here are the little catches of the player selection, though:

- If both of you have the same player (say you both have Jay Bruce), you cannot take another of that same [Jay Bruce] player for your team. You also cannot give your opponent that player if he already has him.

- If you have already had a player taken away from your team (not given away, big difference), you cannot ever take that player for your team again (not be given, big difference lol). So let's use Bruce again. Say that you lose a game, and that guy opts to take Jay Bruce off your team and gives you Edgar Gonzalez. If you ever played that guy again (or someone else who has faced a similar scenario) and you win, you are not allowed to claim Jay Bruce back on your team anymore. Likewise, if they beat you again, they are allowed to take back Edgar Gonzalez if they want to, because they gave him away, he wasn't taken away. They are even allowed to give you back Jay Bruce (you just can't take him yourself)... though that probably isn't the best idea haha.

The reason for the first ordeal is obvious, and the reason for the second one is almost as simple: it makes you think twice about what players you want for your team early on when you're trying to win ball games. If you are a crap team but beat a team that has Alex Rodriguez and then decide to take him, you have to remember that you're still a crap team... so now if you lose, you'll be in some trouble, because somebody else might take him away from your team, and now you can't have him anymore. You also aren't allowed to purchase him.

I'm thinking we can make exception to this somehow, like maybe you can purchase them if you pay twice their value, or maybe every day there is a pool of five players or so that they'll let you re-purchase, but just for those 24 hours.

Anyway, eventually you start building up a dynasty with your team, but you just have to be careful not to lose.

The second way this could go is that you can start off with whatever MLB team that you want, and same rules apply. Of course, if you choose somebody like the Red Sox, once you lose and Adrian Gonzalez is taken from your team, you can't get him back again.

I don't know why this would necessarily take four years to design, but this certainly is competitive, intuitive, and a whole new way to play the game (not the game itself, but it takes on a whole new meaning), and it's something that no sports game has ever done before. It could also work offline, but the AI would have to be pretty smart. I suppose that's worth four years of development right there.

I assumed you just get diamonds sent to your house by UPS anytime you win a game. Seems like a creative, exciting, and intuitive mode to me. Would make my relationship a lot better too.

Thing about some mode involving trading players between gamers, I don't know how you ensure that all deals are fair... It's so easy to create multiple PSN accounts, and who know you can conspire with others (or yourself as different users) to make things happen. So don't know how things like that can be really deep and competitive.

While this is true, this is also true of any game. In COD you can get a room with 11 other people that you know and rank each other up. It's just an unfair system.

Besides, remember that if you indeed lose, whichever player they take away from your team is the player which you may no longer take back for yourself. Eventually, you might have built a huge dynasty because you have all of the best players, and then you will have lost enough so that you will not (and cannot) have any of those players anymore. So, do you want to risk having the top 25 players in the game, only to perhaps lose that amount of times and then settle for players 26-50 for the rest of your dynasty?

It's intriguing, I know.

I'm against the idea of a card game (never have been able to get into Madden Ultimate Team), but I could see the appeal for some people.

My guess and hope is that it is an expansion on the Franchise mode. I'm not sure what they could do that hasn't been done however. I'm excited to find out though!

Hmm, this one is really tough.

Okay, new theory...

You are a young son in the Diamond family, and your grandfather, Neil Diamond, wants to keep the name going strong in terms of fame, so he proposes to one-up the Ming Dynasty with the Diamond Dynasty. This mode is basically Road to the Show: The Beginning. You start off all the way back in the backyard, trying to make contact with wiffle balls. Then you play tee-ball, go through all of little league ball, play in a Babe Ruth league then high school, college, get drafted, and everything else just like RttS.

But wait! Now you must carry on the Diamond Dynasty with your son! Now you must coach your son to become a major league star, just like you were. You are so successful that during this time you also become a manager for a team. Eventually you become so rich thanks to Grampy Neil, and you buy an organization and become the owner. You make Moneyball-like decisions until you die.














Sadly, I think this is the closest to this yet unveiled mode as we're going to get. I really have no idea what this is, and I'm totally stoked for it! For all we know, it's a football game within the baseball game.

Not to mention royalties from the Red Sox.

Interesting that COTW wasn't there on that online menu...is it not coming back for this year? Or perhaps this new mode is replacing it?

Also, not to burst you guys' bubble on that extra slot, but MLB '11 had FIVE empty spaces in its main online menu. It doesn't necessarily mean anything that there's a space there.

The menu is actually a bit consolidated compared to '11 - MLB News, the Vaults, Leaderboards and other things were all on menus other than the main one.

Hey Guys,

I don't mean to ask a dumb question, but does anyone know if the new Diamond Dynasty Game Mode is only an Online or an Offline Game Mode, or does it encompass both Online and Offline? Russell said they have been working on the mode for 3 Years now, so we all know that it is going to be very fun to play. Thanks Russell and thanks SCEA for all your hard-work and dedication.
