Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread

Overall I am enjoying the game. It is a great companion to the PS3 version.

Though I have had some problems - Fielding and the fact you can't switch players. I seem to be having more mess ups base-running on the Vita...though it's probably something with me and the controls.
I saw someone else mention this - The Start button has also been a problem at times.....Like the Pitcher is quick-pitching and I'm locked in, this has messes me up a few times when I'd like to bring up the pinch hitter.

Overall though the issues are minor. I'm hopeful I will be able to successfully play my Franchise on the mode......My biggest concern though may be user related. So far playing exhibitions (same level as on PS3) I hit the ball way better on the Vita.
It sounds like I'm in the minority so I'm not sure what it is.....maybe the screen being dead on and so close to me? But I strike out much less, draw more walks, and frequently get perfect contact (even on off-speed pitches) with the Vita.....and that is not the case with the PS3 version. I really don't want to have to change and make custom Vita sliders, so hopefully it won;t screw things when I start my Franchise.

The pitch delay thing helps immensely for the quick pitch issue.

I draw more walks on the vita version as well. Generally I hit better on the PS3 though.

With kids, work, coaching and umping baseball, etc, I just don't have the time I'd like to spend on the PS3 version. Thank goodness for the Vita!
Yes. This game is weird for me because i never was a Show fan before. But the option of crossplay of a sim sports game really drew me in. Franchise games on either console. Now i find myself playing the Vita version WAY more than the PS3 version - the leave off & pick back up a game experience is so awesome. I can be playing a game at home, pause it & pick it up the next day at work, pause it and pick it up in the car before picking up my son at soccer, etc.

You can press "down" on the D-pad to call time with your batter, and then hit the start button. This will help with the start button issue.

I also have my own borderline-OCD routine I do to slow the CPU pitcher down just a little bit. It helps me hit as well. The first thing I do is hit X for a practice swing, and while my batter is swinging I hold down R like I'm going to guess pitch. I never actually guess the pitch, I just take a moment to look at the last pitch (type and speed) and look at the pitch history for this at-bat. Is he trying to pitch to the outside? keep the ball down? etc. This little slowdown routine has helped both my hitting and my enjoyment of the game immensely.

Anyway, could any of you play the Vita version alone, without a PS3 at all? The reason why I ask is because I might be moving to the UK and moving my PS3 and all might be tough. The Vita would certainly help.

If the Vita was all I had? Sure. The lack of cutscenes and broadcast presentation isn't a huge deterrent for me, and I have a feeling those things will be added in the future.

Couldn't you just pack up your PS3 and ship it over there with the rest of your stuff? Or, get a backpack or something and take it with you on the plane, or however you are getting there?

I could go with a Vita without a PS3 in general. In fact I kind of have been since I got it!

Me too. Between playing The Show, HSG, RC Motorstorm (got it for free, yeah!) and watching TV shows/movies with Netflix, I've used the Vita much more than my PS3 in the last month.

I cant tell u if you if it will be enough of a game to keep u occupied, really only u can answer that. But this is my best analogy-

Im married, 35, 2 kids. Most of my gaming time is done late at night after the wife & kids are in bed. I'll typically set aside 10 min before i hit the sack to peruse spankwire and rub one out to whatever tickles my fancy.

However, every once in a while my old lady will take the kids to her sisters for a visit out of town. Thats when i get that duffel bag off the top shelf of my closet, pull out my full collection of DVDs, bust out the Jergens, and have what i like to call, "me time."

If u can be satisfied with a quick experience and not miss "the full monty" then it'll be great. If ur the type of dude that needs lube, behind the scenes features, and super slowmo to really get u fired up, then u prob wanna go PS3, where u can have surround sound, full cutscenes, a 50 inch screen, etc.

                            Hope this helps.
