Clayton Richard? Chris Carpenter (expensive and old = cheap to acquire)?

Offers higher upside though and you'd look really smart if he's able to bounce back to old form.

Richard isn't a bad option, but I doubt they'd be willing to part with Carp.

Or, I'd look really stupid if he doesn't. Plus, Happ's 2009 season showed some extremely high upside.

Guess it depends on if the Cards are contending or not. Carp is probably more of a mid-season acquisition than someone you grab in the off-season heading into spring 2013. I've pitched a one-hitter with Richard at Petco Park vs the Dodgers so I've got nothing but praise to say about the kid

Haha very true. Sometimes you have to close your eyes and hope for the best - just enjoy the ride and hope that the wheels don't fall off

Hasn't he been injured, though, Richards?

What about Tyler Skaggs from AZ?

Started 33 games and went 14-14 with a 3.99 ERA this past season. I think he hit the DL in July 2011 and missed the remainder of that season but he's obviously proven healthy after that

Doubt they'll move him unless they get a Lawrie type back. Remember Towers only wanted to move one of his young pitchers for a young SS who could be under team control for several years. I'd assume he'd want the same while filling that gaping hole at third (Chris Johnson/Eric Chavez). He opted to trade Trevor Bauer over Tyler Skaggs and Pat Corbin so I guess the D'backs are really high on those guys.

I'm worried that those numbers would be Petco products, though.

Ouch, that's expensive. I think they traded Bauer over Skaggs/Corbin mainly because they're low on Bauer though

8-5 with a 3.02 ERA at home compared to 6-9 on the road with a 4.74 ERA. I always ditch him on the road in fantasy and spot start him at home.

Yeah Bauer was dealt because they'd soured on him, no question about it. Also think that Skaggs/Corbin because of their work ethic compared to Bauer were ranked higher in the system. Either way, I think you'd have to pay a steep price to acquire one of them.

With Furcal being Furcal (injury prone) and the other in-house options for MI being "meh" (Descalso, Kozma, Ryan Jackson), how about shipping Bonifacio to the Cardinals along with some other prospect for Shelby Miller? Just like we spoke of with the Braves and their young talent. Bonifacio would fit in nicely at either SS or 2B for the Cards plus he could play 3B when Freese gets injured again.

I like the thought process, but Miller is a really really good prospect. I could see them dealing from their SP depth, though. Michael Wacha could be an option. I'd have to add on my side for Martinez...

Cliff Lee: an A and a couple B's IMO

                            A-Gone: 1 A, 1 mid B's or 2 high B's IMO

We went through the biggest Phillie players back in late June when there were rumors of Amaro starting a firesale. Halladay and Lee were valued equally at 1 A, 2 B's and 1 C.

As for A-Gone, I'd put him at one A and 2 low B's
