Re: 2012 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

It's July and he's hitting about .290 with 7 homeruns. The Giants need a SS and have excess pitching as usual, so I'm thinking about this trade:

Castro, 3B Trey McNutt (B) and OF Reggie Golden (B)

for Bumgarner, recently traded SP Zach Wheeler (A) and SS Brandon Crawford (B).

The Braves, Diamondbacks, and Tigers are three other contending teams with holes at SS. It's still 2012 so the rosters are still mostly the same, albeit with some turnover (like Wheeler back on the Giants).

I'm also thinking about trading him straight-up for prospects as well, since the Cubs won't be contending for the next couple years and I could unload him before he gets expensive. I was thinking two A's for Castro or maybe an A and a B but I'm not sure. I don't want to fleece any team.

is it safe to assume the Cubs are out of it? if so, it makes no sense as they wouldn't trade prospects....and the trade really makes no sense as Bumgarner aint goin anywhere plus i wudda never allowed Wheeler to be back on the Giants so i'd pass on the Giants as trade partners

A and 2 high-B's sounds solid for Castro

Wheeler's on the Giants because I'm not doing 30-team control this time around. I like my franchises to be realistic but sometimes doing 30-team control is just too much work. The Cubs are out of it but I want a young major league player in return instead of starting completely over with prospects.

Castro is thought to be an untouchable too. An untouchable for an untouchable sounds about right to me. No one is totally untouchable, remember the Pineda-Montero trade earlier this year?

Castro's been mentioned in trade rumors all year and is by no means untouchable.

And I know a Castro-Bumgarner trade wouldn't go down in real life, but it makes sense because the Giants have a terrible hitting SS and a really deep pitching staff while the Cubs have two top SS prospects waiting in the wings and need to add another solid SP to their roster.

Castro can be had if the Cubs are blown away with an offer...The Giants would hang up the phone the minute u mention Bum

ok well 'untouchable' is just basically an opinion. Weren't Hamels and Upton both thought to be untouchable too? All I'm saying is a team would probably trade a young star like Bumgarner if they got somebody even better like Castro.

u'd have a better chance of building a trade around Wheeler then Bum

Giants aint robbing Peter to pay Paul...they'd go after a veteran stopgap like Yunel before they entertain trading Bum

And block your number, too. Seriously, Bum is so untouchable it isn't funny.

Bumgarner also has a 4.16 ERA on the contending Giants while Castro is hitting .290 on the lowly Cubs...
