I get what you are saying, Bondsfan. For some reason, most developers of sports games have decided that one of the ways to sell its current version of the game is to trash the previous year's iteration. That's counter-productive, to me. Again, I'm not saying everyone does this, but it does seem more prevalent with sports game developers.

Yeah...after posting that question I was thinking this may be a "personal" issue where its something I think I'm seeing whereas my players aren't good enough to make those plays, or things along those lines.
But you brought up another question I had..in '13 is it possible to "custom" set your defense? Meaning I can move players by individual position instead of as a group?
Example being against a strong pull RH hitter, having my LF play a bit deeper than "normal", CF play "normal depth" and the RF play a few steps in because chances are if he hits the ball to the opposite field, its not going to have as much power behind it.
Good thing is it actually works now, is a lot more straight forward and actually remembers your settings. We asked about some type of visual indicator to let you know when your guys are shifting. Either a text notification or a manager's cutscene (which is actually in the game), but that won't be in this year.

Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
I walked away from CD felling pretty good with this. I am not going to say it is perfect but the on field balance of good and bad was more noticeable. The fielders have been slowed down, more animations have been added to allow situations to unfold, etc. I noticed it quite a bit in outfield play with the amount of ground I could cover based on 12. Last year I felt I could get anywhere with any player. When playing at CD I was not making the plays I could in 12 and the ball physics also have something to do with this as well too.
I did not do anything extreme like you mentioned above but I saw positive steps taken overall with field play. Remember I am not saying it is perfect but getting better!
positive steps are fine.
I wouldnt expect an overhaul.
i am glad there is at least a different feel this year [slower outfielders is great too! so no more corner outfielders getting to balls down the line forcing me to hold to a single at worst or barely sliding in safe to second at best.].
Hopefully next year we can get dedicated ratings for each position for all players.Comment

That's exactly how it's set up CB. You can position them by outfield/infield and then position a particular player (LF for instance) independent of the other 2 outfielders. And of course you can set it for just an inning, at-bat, or just for when a particular batter is at the plate. Same thing goes for infielders. It is all done in real time too, so you can see where your players are on the field, and in relation to one another.

Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
It felt like in past years it did not seem like there was much of a difference between facing an ace or a 4-5 guy. I'd like to see ace pitchers and certain no. 2 pitchers be more dominant and tougher to face. But there always has to be once in a while where they have off games as well. Can any devs comment on this if they feel like 13 is somewhat different in this aspect. Thanks
By the way, I absolutely agree with the quoted part above.
I told Brian that I felt that gap needed to be widened, but that I hadn't played enough of 13 to truly be able to tell if any improvements had been made in this area of the game.
He told me that the differential in the coding had been increased this year and wondered if I thought it should be widened even further.
A few minutes later he pulled me into his office and literally showed me and Nomo this year's adjustment.
In fact, one of the last things he told was that he was going to see if that differential could be made even bigger! LOL!Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 01-26-2013, 12:31 PM.Comment

I actually talked with Brian_SCEA about this myself (along with Nomo...sorry I haven't read ahead yet. I don't mean to be repetitive if he answered you earlier in this thread).

This is totally awesome that this will be improved!!Comment

I like the new button accuracy throwing system. It is pretty impressive and intuitive, IMO. I think there will be a blog on this so I wont go into detail until I here yay or nay. I Don plan to use it from now on though. The general idea behind it is allowing you to control how hard and accurate each throw is.

Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
From what Russell said in an interview it seems like it'll be based off of the player's attributes as well.
So you'll have a meter that has a "window" for an accurate throw and some way to control the power. Not sure exactly, but it does sort of sound like MVP's system. But that window will be larger depending on the player's attributes, so high accuracy rating might equal a bigger window. So in theory a lower chance to commit errors. This has probably been said already though. I am very curious as to how the power will be measured? Is it just a meter as in there is a sweet spot of power, anything too hard or too soft might result in an error.
I don't know if I'll use it as well since I'd rather have more random chance involved that uses the player ratings. I don't want to end up in franchise Darwin Barney having 10 throwing errors because I messed up the timing.Comment

Re: Community Day 2013 - Gameplay - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
Don't know if this has been asked, but this year during a game can we substitute the DH into a position resulting in the pitcher having to bat?
I ask because it was frustrating because last year if I wanted to DH a utility infielder or a catcher, I couldn't because if there was an injury, I wouldn't have the right player on the bench to put in.Comment
