    What no no no

A stellar prospect for an aging RELIEVER making $15m or whatever?

Just getting advice with it, neither are my team.

But...Papelbon is having an awesome season, as is 24 year old "prospect" Mike Olt, so whatever is a good trade i would do for them.

Ruben Amaro would be snatching off Jon Daniels arm to make that deal, or at least he should be definitely tilted too much towards the Phillies.

Put me down for a Papelbon-Olt deal as being ok. Texas would do that deal, but just barely. At 32, Papelbon doesn't have many good years left, but I also don't think the Rangers value Olt so much to prohibit this from happening.

I think Olt is better served being part of a larger deal for a bigger fish, but with Beltre still having 3+1 years on his contract, and Olt not having a great profile at 1B, I think it's realistic enough.

How in hell is a RELIEVER worth an A prospect when his name isn't Kimbrel or Chapman?

I think the problem with that analysis is that Olt shouldn't really be an A (his trade value isn't on the spreadsheet). Not only that but now 24, limited by his bat to 3B, but limited by his glove maybe to 1B. And on the Rangers, he's just a spare part.

His plus-plus glove at a premium position gives him significant value, much more $/WAR than Papelbon will ever provide as a freaking RELIEVER who gets paid $15M lol.

Is Ike Davis a realistic target yet?

Plus plus glove at 3B...hmmm...are we still talking about Mike Olt?

I've seen the words "fringe," "passable," and "average" tossed about in regard to his defense. Even the most optimistic projections grade him at a 60/80 on his defense. So maybe above average, but certainly not two plusses, probably not 1 plus either.

He does have a good throwing arm though...

Where the heck are you looking? MLB.com has him at a 5/5 glove.

From a phillies perspective, I like that deal haha.

That's not great. The highest number is 8/8 for any stat, so that's just above average. And I'm not really big on Jon Mayo.

However, I do agree that Olt is waaaaaay to much for Papelbon. I know he's "elite", but he's also 33 and has a Big contract. Olt is a guy who's Power is going to take him places. Papelbon is a has been. So I agree with AC, I don't like it.

Yeah, as said one post before this one, MLB uses a 2-8 scale, so 5/5 means 5 (out of 8) current defense, and 5 (out of 8) projected peak defense. So, again that's average to above average.

This. The Rangers could do way better than Papelbon if they decided to move Olt.

Our point exactly. Olt is a young, expandable guy. You can get alot of players for a low A. Papelbon is an aging, declining closer, who's trade value is slowly diminishing. Besides, closer isn't a big need with Nathan and Feliz, hell, even reliever isn't a big need as they have an above average 'pen. The Rangers would try to acquire key players in positions they need, like outfield, or catcher, or mid-back end pitching. Just not a good trade.
