Also, AC, I noticed you were contemplating dealing Rasmus in yours from what I read. What kind of deal are you looking at for him?

Btw boni is holding his own. Batting .252 with 20 steals. Not much in power or RBI but has been better than real life
Yeah I meant Reynolds and Tomlin/Carrasco/Wood/Hagadone for Bonifacio

Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

I'm thinking about going after a SP in my franchise as my pitching is already thin and Volquez is out for 6-8 weeks leaving me to start Marquis and/or Ross which is a guaranteed loss for me every 5th day.

I'm looking at a guy who I know is very realistic to obtain even in April but I don't want to give away a name due to preconceptions about him and don't want anything other than realism in my little digital world.

He is ~29 years old and in arbitration for a team that can't afford too much and won't be keeping him for long (they trade arb players often). His only pitches worth anything are his too FBs which are above average but only ~55 control and a swing and miss curve that he cannot control at all. His potential is a mid-high C and overall is an 80. He is a 2nd mop-up guy who only has 4IP which he did well (April 24th or so).

What does this guy sound like he is worth? The CPU wants a B prospect MI like Spangenberg/Jace Petersen or a RP which would marginally improve them. I could use a 2nd lefty in the pen after Volques comes back but this seems like an overpay to me...Fautino de los Santos might be an option but he's got some serious gas and I plan on trading more expensive options from my pen later. This other team is definitely a contender and off to a red hot start.

          Any thoughts?

On paper, he sounds like someone that's worth nothing more like a high C, meaning a good bullpen arm if that's what they're looking for in return. Would you be willing to offer up a young arm like Brach, Vincent or Mikolas in exchange? Offer up a 40 man roster clogger like Jaff Decker along with a lesser reliever or maybe even Marquis for your targeted pitcher? Thinking Marquis would provide a veteran presence and could replace your target as the second fiddle long man while Decker gives them a somewhat young outfielder who'll act as AAA depth. Come to think about it, Decker and Marquis for Pitcher X sounds like a nice deal as it clears two spots on your 40 man roster

I'm sorry, but with 4 IP and no preconceptions about the guy, it's hard to answer. I feel like I'm generally pretty good at getting past biases so if you want to PM me the name, or just post it, I think I'll be able to help better.

Is there any realistic way to get Chris Archer from TB if I'm Seattle? I'm pretty sure the spreadsheet value is a High B, so is there a way I could work out a deal? Other electric young pitchers with potential would work too.

Iwakuma could probably land a Stroman or Archer.

Yes a name would definitely help since it is so early in the year with no stats/standings to go off of.

Regardless of if we think it is realistic or not, I'm sure we could figure out a deal that suits your opinion as well.

Not to mention preconceptions play a HUGE part of ascertaining value, especially with such a microscopic sample size. 4 bad innings from Felix Hernandez =/= 4 bad innings of Chris Narveson for example. Preconceptions are not necessarily a bad thing as they take into account past performance.

Something to consider when valuing catchers:

Not sure how well the Show recreates this little talked about aspect of catching, but the article here gives you an idea of what it is and who does it best. It could affect the trade value of trading for/away a catcher, so I post it here.

Trust me, I've been following it lol. When it becomes quantifiable in ways that don't take advanced SQL theories by guys like Matt Klassen and Jeff Sullivan, it'll be included in the spreadsheet.

                            Iwakuma has a 2.53 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, .223 opponents' BA, 6.05 K/9, and a 3.281 DIPS through 64.0 innings pitched.

                            Archer, in long relief, has a 5.20 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, .291 BA against, 5.53 K/9, and a 4.988 DIPS in 27.2 innings.

Would this still be a fair trade, or could I get Archer for less? Ikakuma has been really good for me behind Hernandez, but I don't know that giving him up in this kind of a year is fair for a struggling Archer.
