Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
Just got the game a few days ago, here are some questions/guesses.
Pitcher/Pos. Player ratings: Quality of discovered prospects?
Discovery: Number of discovered prospects
Efficiency: How fast they can scout individual players?
Could be wrong, I've been wrong about things before.Comment

Also I heard in the franchise blog that when a scout is in his "native area" they are more effective. Whether this is for faster discovery or faster scouting I have no idea.NHL: Chicago Blackhawks

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
Just for the hell of it I decided to scout a guy who was a 68 overall and he ended up being the best guy in the draft with a 74 overall! What made it even more strange was that all of his actual bars were higher then his potential bars...Comment

How old was that player? He could have been older and considered in his prime, therefore having higher overall than potential.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I wouldnt let a low potential rating deter me from scouting a player. I have found quite a few potential guys that end up having a potential in the 80's and 90's .
How old was that player? He could have been older and considered in his prime, therefore having higher overall than potential.
I think I scouted too many players because now with the issue I mentioned above I have NO CLUE where to start with scouting players.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I have completed around 7 or 8 years of scouting so far. The only problem is that those are all for the first year of a franchise. I always do this with a new game. I have so many ideas on what I want to do that I quickly get bored with the Franchise or RTTS that I am playing and move onto another.
I feel like I have developed a pretty good scouting system. I normally draft 5 or 6 A potential players that are projected to make it to the show before their bones turn to dust. And my last couple picks are B potential, a couple years away from the bigs. I am not sure how these picks ever pan out though. What kind of jumps in progression do you see in the first couple years? How long does it take for the 74 Overall 97 Potential guy to reach that potential? Wanting to see if I am on the right track. I could also get off this website and actually play the game too I guess....
ThanksComment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
I have training and scouting set to auto, and I draft manually. too much micro managing for me. I usually just sim the first 2-3 years and handle all my drafting/trading/free agency. I do that because I love the whole idea of your own world and a new baseball landscape a few years down the road. It is ridiculously easy to draft mostly A prospects but I think Ive been going about it wrong because I don't really go by the age of the player just try to keep my picks under 22-23 y/o.
Pre patch progression too fast and regression too fast obviously.
Post patch Regression is still too fast and generalized for player 35 and older imo but this is a well documented issue among us players
But IDK, I still think progression should be upped a tick, it still feels kind of slow post patch, unless because of my drafting technique as noted above of not really worrying about age/ovr as much as I should results in me just drafting a lot of A prospects that are bust's.
What do you guys think?Comment

Couple more questions
1. Just had my draft, when can I start scouting again?
2. When I am able to scout again will the players who didn't enter the draft still be there and fully scouted if I had them 100% scouted?NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
NFL: Kansas City Chiefs
MLB: Kansas City Royals

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
Scouting a guy that has a 99 potential and his ETA is 2014 so that is great. I am the Astros so I have the best chance of getting him since I have the first pick. His velocity is 99 so he will be a good hardthrower like Chapman but this guy is a starting pitcher.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 13 Official Scouting/Prospect/Development Thread
You assign your scout to look for a particular position and makeup first. Once all your scouts find those prospects, then you give each scout a player assignment.
I always assign the scout in that players region as a rule of thumb.
You have to highlight the scout first on the top then click the left stick to go down to the prospect list and choose the player you want scouted and press the square button to assign the scout to him.
Then keep a look out in your message box and you will get word when your scout is done evaluating the prospect.
I keep a spiral notebook and actually write down my prospects buy region and position and put notes on certain values I am looking for plus ETA and Potential.
The reason is after the draft....in past iterations I never saw their reports again and some of these really good prospects or ones that are really young do not enter the June draft in year one of my chise. So I do not want to lose the information.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 04-11-2013, 08:42 PM.Now Playing on PS5:
