Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread

I need to def make two separate profiles. One for rtts and another for my franchise. I was at Rookie+ for hitting after countless games. Started a rtts and I'm up to Allstar in no time. Or I could set my hitting difficulty to HOF when I play rtts...that might be even easier.

After a few more games, my back of the rotation guys are in the 4s and my long-man is in the mid-5s--he's totally getting shelled.
      Here's team stats for 2013:

      http://www.baseball-reference.com/le...MLB/2013.shtml

Your whip / ERA / hits to innings pitched ratio are all a little low (so far), but that just may be the DD settling in...

And, it's a somewhat small sample...

As you say, you've got Hamels (and Papelbon, from the looks of things) keeping the team stat line low...

It'll be VERY interesting to see how those numbers develop over the next 25 games or so...

The "quarter pole" of 40 games (or so) and the halfway point of 80 are really the best indicators of what the long term holds...

For instance, Hamels goes "cold" or gets injured and it's a whole 'nother (team) stat line...

Personally, I'm kind of flabbergasted at how good this all looks without adjustment...

The past ten years (plus) of Sports Gaming have made me quite the skeptic, but if I suppose if ANYBODY could pull this off, it's the folks at SCEA...

      Thanks for the info!

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread

King, good stuff. The only thing I wish I could provide that I can't is the pitch count and strike percentage data, but I'm glad the rest is illuminating.

I can tell you this for sure: once I hit HOF pitching, things got real. Coming from Madden, where All Madden is basically a CPU cheat-fest, I am surprised to see the upper levels of MLBTS feeling very realistic.

In the 10 games or so I've been pitching at that level, my team ERA and WHIP have gotten much more realistic. I can gather data later, but I'm going to post at the quarter mark for better perspective, but for right now, I can say that there are NO waste pitches in HOF. If you groove one to a good hitter, you're done. But it's still possible to pitch well; I struck out 11 with Kendrick yesterday.

Basically, if Hamels evens out, things change big-time. Hernandez will probably be a 4.5 ERA guy, and Kendrick will probably end up in the high 3s if he stays hot, or drift to the mid-4s if his most recent performances are any indication. Lee is laboring a lot lately, and Papelbon has had his ups and downs at HOF.

I think you'll really like what you see in the next stats update. Going back to default and just trusting the game has really afforded me great enjoyment, and the stats are decent.

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread

I switched my Marlins Franchise to Dynamic three games ago, from Beginner.

I'm now at Veteran Pitching and only Rookie+ Hitting, mainly because I swing at everything, at a guess. You could probably count the number of walks I've ever had at bat on three fingers, without using binary...

The pitching still feel reasonable and I was surprised it ramped up so quickly after three games, but the game must know what it's doing. I am still a total newbie at Baseball, but I'm getting the hang of it and know when I've missed scoring opportunities owing to bad decisions now.

I like the fact that the game will take care of the difficulty for me so I can just get on with enjoying the next hundred or so games.

Just a tip, your hitting will improve dramatically if you start taking pitches and working the count. Hitting is all about being in favorable counts. If you're constantly behind you will pay the price.

Is there a way to play DD until it levels off and then lock it at the difficulty levels you've arrived at, or does it endlessly adjust forever? I like the concept of it, but long term I don't want the difficulty to be constantly adjusting every half inning, or at the very least I don't want to be consciously aware of it.

Yes and no, If you are happy with a difficulty level after x amount of games using DD and its a traditional setting (Rookie, Veteran, AS, HOF) then you can take off DD setting and set it at one of those levels, however if you end up happy with one of the + levels (i.e AS+) then you cannot lock it in as those levels are not selectable, hope that answers your question

Got it, thanks! In that case I think I'll stick with AS and adjust sliders as needed. It is too bad that they opted not to make the "in between" difficulty levels selectable.

yea I agree, it's a really good first effort though, and hopefully next year they tweak its accuracy as needed and then make the in between difficulty levels selectable as well.

I wish after so many games the +'s and -'s would only change after each game and even then maybe not until you were in a several game hot/cold streak. I'll get to AS+ pitching with +++ progress and give up a solo HR and drop back to ++ and the cpu will go another couple of innings without a hit.

Your advice is good but I've made it to AS+ hitting with 4+ progress and as soon as I select the difficulty at AS I can't hit. I don't know if it's in my head or selected AS is different than DD AS.

I guess it's possible that the settings don't line up the same as if you just manually select them.

I agree with you about scaling back the changes as the season goes on, maybe change it each game for the first third of a season then after that maybe after each series, week or month.

I'm wondering this as well. I have everything in default except pitch speed three notches up and CPU throw strikes down one notch. Will DD change these or just work around them?

Sliders are independent of your Dynamic Difficulty setting. Changing them might affect the way the game plays, but it won't affect how DD functions.

I think changing the sliders while you're trying to find your optimal difficulty is a bit counterproductive, though. I think it's better to tweak the sliders after you've plateaued.

This might be a little noobish but I'm still reading through his DD setting. Is it ok to play out a whole season with it on? At what point do you change?

To be honest I hate sliders but have a huge amount of respect for those that do figure them out and make sets. Just wondering if it's best and ok just to leave DD on for a whole season. Thanks in advance
