Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
When I got the game I started playing as always on Veteran pitching and All-Star Hitting. I was cruising along - win after win - and then decided to test the new DD feature. I've been defeated in many games even on Rookie+ pitching and Veteran hitting. After some major defeats in Veteran+ pitching and All-Star hitting I am now degraded to Veteran and Veteran+ in both. I guess there's a more complex logic behind DD.Comment

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
Have been doing a lot of reading on this thread, and been taking mental notes of everyone's experience. So, today and tonight I have a lot of free time to start a sample season with my Braves and relay all my input from it.
For beginners I'm not that great at hitting mainly because I'm not patient and swing at everything, and if anyone has any tips for that would be great, like maybe the pitch speed slider? Lol I would probably evaluate myself as a Veteran hitter, but for pitching I would probably grade myself as an All-Star border line HoF possibly.
Still debating if I should do a QC because everyone else is doing it or play it regularly. Any opinions?
Hitting; since I am not very comfortable with it I'll probably spend time splitting up my games with the different options. (Analog, Timing, and Zone) probably do 1/3 of my games in Spring Training with each. Which would be best to learn with? Or is it all personal preference?
Pitching; I use Analog. Sometimes I'll do pulse but for this test I'll exclusively use Analog.
And here is to an awesome game and to everyone
Also, I find analog works best for me as I just try to eyeball the delivery as I used to when I stood in a real batters box. The ability to control the stride helps me make better contact rather than clicking a button. Analog also gives me far more variety of hits, and allows me to go with pitches much better as I can control my swing timing after I load up (pull back). This works for me, but you just have to experiment with the different methods to find what works for you.Last edited by hull kogan; 04-09-2014, 11:35 AM.Comment

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
my only wish with this is if you could lock in it and keep it if it is between veteran and legend mode.. I seem to keep dropping back to legend then going back up wish you could just keep it at say Veteran ++ but I guess that is the whole point of the dynamics to changeComment

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
If it locked they'd have to call it Static Difficulty.
That would sort of defeat the purpose!
Though I'm all for selectable + and - modes though!Comment

" Your difficulty is now: Pitching Veteran+, Batting All Star+. Do you want to lock these settings for your next game?" Maybe next year!Comment

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
Ok, maybe I didn't frame my question right. I would think after about 20-25 games the logic would have your difficulty dialed in and would only need to make minor tweaks here and there. If there were constant swings after every game or inning it would make ratings kind of pointless.
I guess I just need to experiment with it. I was hoping that the game would have some stability in adjustments. Say I've worked my way up to HOF hitter and then I face J.Verlander and I'm struggling it would seem kind of lame if by the 8th or 9th inning I was down to Rookie just because I didn't get hits in the beginning.Comment

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
I'm enjoying DD so far, but if there's one thing it's taught me, it's that I suck. 69 games into my RTTS career, and I'm still stuck on Rookie+. Not complaining, as I'm getting good results, just wish I had more talent.
EDIT: Of course I type the above and start a new RTTS game to find out I've been bumped up to Veteran hitting. Time for a new challenge.Last edited by Chaos81; 04-11-2014, 07:56 PM.Comment

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
Dumb question, but where are you accessing these hitting tips?
I've looked in the digital manual and other areas within the game. Just not able to find it!
Thanks!
BTW, that 50-55 percent take rate isn't something I'm just pulling out of my butt. There's a very interesting bit in the strategy guide that talks about the MLB averages for 6 different parts of the game:
So basically, if you're able to pull that off in a game, you're probably pretty close to a realistic game. Take % is by far the hardest to duplicate, but it is absolutely vital to drawing the right number of walks.Playing:

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
So can you not choose DD for just hitting OR pitching?
I set it for just hitting last night and I was getting the status at the start of each inning while pitching too.
Now I can't say whether or not it's actually "on" or if it's just a static OSD though. Has anybody tried this?Comment

Re: The Dynamic Difficulty Discussion Thread
Thinking I'm going to let DD go.
After playing a dozen plus games in the Vet -Allstar range, I went back to HOF for pitching/hitting, and realized that I just love the way the game plays at that difficulty.
The quality and strategy of CPU pitching just feels a little more like real baseball than it does at default on vet, vet+, or AS. I just felt like I was wasting my time with working my way up the mode when I already knew HOF fits my sill level almost perfectly.
Also, I don't like difficulty feeling like such an ever present part of the game. Being reminded of the difficulty and progress level every half inning gets into my head a little bit, and I found myself playing for progress more than I was simply trying to play fundamental baseball.
If you've ever obsessed over finding the right sliders, or making your own slider tweaks, I'm sure you can relate on some level. There's just something about being constantly conscious of the difficulty level(ESPECIALLY on a per half inning basis) that not only messes with my approach, but it also ruins some of the immersion for me.
I went back to HOF accross the board for my last handful of games, and it feels like I picked up right where I left off with '13. I can certainly understand the appeal of DD, however, it is not for me.Now, more than everComment
