        Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis)

Any feedback would be welcome! Okay lets get to it!

Nemesis, I've made the move to play on HOF with your sliders. I couldn't remember the last time I lost playing AS so it was time to make the game competative. Well, I've played about 8 games and I'm 5-3 with the Braves. Here's my issue.

I'm one of the "older" dudes who enjoys the game. (Yes, we older dudes play baseball games when the kids are in bed). My skill set forbids me to aim the "L" stick while the pitch is in motion, even when the pitch speed is set low. So I essentially pre-aim my stick before the pitch.

In HOF, there are 9 zones. So I have a 1 in 9 chance of guessing the zone. These odds when pre-loading the stick are against me. Therefore my Veteran, Allstar skill level takes over. I essentailly use the "X" or power buttons only. This giving me free range of the strike zone. This gives me excellent plate discipline and allows me to work the count.

I use the L stick when I'm ahead in the count, 2-0, 3-1. This allows me to take a strike if I guessed the wrong location.

So here's my issue. You can use X or power swing somewhat effectively without L stick on HOF but I'm seeing maybe one double and zero HR's per game. I'm scoring runs, making solid contact but my hit variety is poor.

Granted, I'm using an AS (timing) approach to HOF(zone). Is there anything I can do to make HOF more fun. Increase power? Increase contact? perhaps this will allow for more power hits with "X" only.

Otherwise I should go back to AS and simply accept winning 120 games per year. As Clint Eastwood said, "A mans' gots to know his limitations".

First, thanks for giving these a try. I always enjoy reading your breakdowns and observations about the game.

You a correct about not using the left stick on HOF, the hit variety suffers tremendously.
If you get a chance post what you are using for power, contact and plate vision. By upping these 3 (especially plate vision), it is quite possible to get x hitting with no stick to a desireable level.

            Contact -10
            Power default
            plate awareness +2

I really have no problem getting hits (singles). My strikeouts are low, I draw 3-5 walks per game and can score 3-5 runs per game. I absolutely love this part of the game and don't want to lose the patient discipline I bring to the game.

I don't hit alot of weak grounders as I really wait for a pitch over the "sweet spot" of the bat. It's the lack of doubles and HR's. I played a couple of innings on AS and proceeded to MASH the CPU into oblivion. So allstar would yield too much offense. I'm between Allstar and HOF right now.

Keep in mind. I do use L but situationally. Even then, I only use 4 zones not 9. How the heck does one guess 9 zones?

Keep contact at -10, bring power to +5 and put plate awareness at +4. It is not a solution but a starting point. Let me know how it goes for a couple games.

You really are not guessing. You move the stick as the pitch approaches the zone. A quick tip that helped out a friend who was having trouble was I had him use the guess location feature (not pitch and location). It helped him concentrate on other parts of the zone if his guess was not correct.

ok, we that are all old enough to remember it, remember the all time classic game seven between atlanta and twins. John Smoltz Vs. Jack Morris. mine wanst as good but it was good enough to help me not only win my 100th game of the seaosn but to beat my nemesis Angels and win the division...

                  oak 1-6-0
                  laa 0-6-1

Final in 11 innings. if you want to read about it and see the full box score just click on my A's link in my sig...

                        One pitch away from perfection...

                        oak 10-15-0

if i would have let ellis go back on the ball instead of thinking it was too deep for him and that abreu had a shot it maybe could have been a perfect game...

I've been using pared's sliders for awhile, but most of the games were really low scoring, so i'm trying these again. Here's my box score. I'm the Cubs.

                          Astros 4 11 0
                          Cubs 0 6 1

4 of the runs were 3 solo homers. I think one reason i stopped using these before was because of too many homers.

well if you want to see tight games just go look at what ive been doing on my page since August first when i acutaully bumped it up to hof... from that point on it has been crazy.. ive played more extra innings games recently than i have ever in a complete season in any game before...

Interesting that you get more homeruns because my sliders tend to take away from the hitter, not add to the offense.

I played one more game and the line was like this:

                                Astros 0 3 0
                                Cubs 1 8 0

                                Zambrano had the shutout.

Then another, I just played just now:

                                Giants 7 11 1
                                Cubs 3 7 0

Two homers for each team. I may try to trade for Nomar again to help out offensively soon.
