Being that I only swing at pitches over the plate, it does not add to my hits. (I don't think)

I'm proof that HOF with your sliders can be played with predominantly "X" only skills.

My problem is pitching all of a sudden. I'm giving up too many runs, my pitchers aren't able to get past the 4th.

I'm very confused about the confidence meter. The movement slider definitely makes meter more challenging but I'm not sure if +5 is my cause or my approach to pitching. HOF CPU is much smarter.

As you know once your pitcher gives up some hits, his meter gets difficult (big blue spot appears) thus exacerbating the ability to hit your corners. The result is the CPU tees off.

Movement +5 is great when your coasting, but when your struggling, it seems all heck breaks lose and you cannot work out of jams. Do you have a tip or two how to approach this? Lowering movement and raising control may help but it may also force me not to learn how to pitch vs the CPU. I'd rather approach this as a skill problem not a slider tweaking at this point.

After all, I don't want HOF to turn into All star with 130 win seasons.
I am glad you finally found a comfort level with the game. I know you have been searching for quite some time!

The confidence meter in the Show is way too sensitive. Next year they either have to add a sensitivity slider for it or have the ability to turn it on or off. If you lose the perfect release point, generally you need an inning of flawless pitching to get it back. Easier said than done! When the release point is gone and you have the blurry blue area, try to stay towards the top end of this. You will get less break and a little more control on the pitch. With some practice, you can still hit close to where you want pitch to be.

It is really key when you are at the disadvantage to try to get ahead of the count as much as possible. Then you can try to get them to chase to get the k or a weak hit. That was one of the reasons why I have the CPU batter plate discipline slider slanted toward them taking more pitches besides just increasing pitch counts. The CPU would be apt to take a first pitch strike helping you when you cannot pin point the pitches.

If your pitcher is not getting past the fourth inning that tells me your pitching approach is too similar from the first time through the order. The CPU picks up on your pitching tendencies very quickly. The pitching philosophy on HOF needs to mimic real MLB pitching in order to be successful.

I would not change any sliders and I would try to work on pitch strategy first. We can slant it to erase this problem but it can work with the current settings.

Let me know if I can help in any way!!

Thanks to you, the game is quite enjoyable and getting bombed is good once in awhile. It gives me real incentive to go back and play to win. I realize I've been throwing rather than pitching of late and when I lose the meter, I panic and start to become predictable.

I like the discipline at 5. Seems perfect. No more first pitch swinging by the CPU

thanks for asking. Funny you asked. I pitched 2 shutouts in a row vs. The Yanks! I simply took a deliberate approach to the game.

          1. Took my time
          2. Studied the hitters blue and red zones
          3. changed the hitters eye with up and down pitching
          4. never pitched the same to the same batter
5 used red zone in meter and less of red zone for mixing pitch speed and motion
          6 challenged hitters
7 threw alot more balls, walked a few more as well

Your advice about using the upper part of the blue when your pitcher is in trouble worked. As a matter of fact, it works well even if your pitcher isn't in trouble. It helps with some of the pitches that are low in meter. Gives the fastball a rise instead of in downward motion. I struck out a few more hitters this way.

HOF is great even with less use of the L stick. The AL Central is now a race and not a runaway division.

Thinking of getting the PS3 this weekend but the PS2 is fine with me. I'd hate to start the franchise all over again.

          Thanks again.

Great approach! Totally changes the tempo of the game when you think it through more.

Good luck with your ps3 decision! It is a nice machine!

                Hey Roger!

API is off, pitching is meter, strike zone/hot & cold zones are all off. Let me know if you need anything else!

well im having a hard time of it starting out, have struck out in seven games a total of 75 times as a team. if i keep that pace up i will have around 1875 at the end of the season. that would be more than 500 more than the 2001 Milwaukee brewers in real life... if you want to see how im doing just click on the link for my A's page in my sig

Set 1 for human plate awareness. Are you playing the ps2 or the ps3 version? The slider for cpu plate discipline is opposite in the 2 versions, that is why I ask.

I have for both because the ps2 version came out first. The one with the sets was tailored for the ps3. I am using set 1.

I am seriously beginning to wonder just what pool of programmers these producers are picking from? Is it some community college nearby or a rip-off private "university" or some "online degree" program? Maybe someone's uncle's nephew's brother? Most of the sliders in any sports games don't work as effectively as they should. More and more of them appear to not work at all. That begs the question. Are we as gamers being snowed?
