I know that this is done to prevent him from being too good too soon, but if a player has superior tools he shouldn't be penalized for them at the minor league level, they should be more pronounced IMO. Players don't mysteriously gain 20 points in power or speed over their careers, its more likely that they lose it as they grow older...

Maybe you should come up with a set of MiLB sliders Nomo, it won't alleviate the low numbers in franchise sims, but it would help those of us who actually like to play minor league games more than major league ones...

    Edit:

Are you using OSFM for these tests Nomo? The high strike percentages are probably a result of individual pitch control being set at MLB levels since those ratings hardly progress. Don't know if this affects the CPU in any way, but the pitch repertoires are all out of whack as well, too much mph separation between fastballs and offspeed pitches.

For testing, I'm using the first online update of SCEA rosters. I figured I should use it since even the OSFM rosters will get filled by generated players, who presumably follow the rules created by the devs, and those rules are what I'm after by testing things.

I actually need to get in another round of simulated season to see how the stats compare when I "sim" all the games (the engines are different). So stay tuned for that... I just forgot that I was meaning to post this after I do that thing...

You are right about some physical attribute ratings... they shouldn't progress much. But I wanted to explicitly test how the game is handling this aspect of the game.

Can low Power guys (on the scale of MLB) down in AA not hit out of the park even against much lesser competitions they face at that level? For example, can Power = 30 guys, who obviously lack power at the MLB level, hit it out of the park consistently against HR/9 = 20 guys down in AA? It seems the answer is no.

It appears that's not how the ratings work, at least for Power.

But on the flip side of this is that if the lack of power down in minors is an issue (at all...), then all it needs to be done is to make Power ratings less dependent on progression. (This is actually the solution I prefer personally.)

As for MiLB sliders, I don't think we need it, because the game is meant to be played at a fixed setting for ratings to mean their meanings. But if you find the lack of power (or too high strike %) troublesome, then the best you can do is to increase the Power (or lower Pitcher Consistency) slider.

I can't remember if this was ever definitively answered last year, and as you know my memory is terrible... So I'll ask again. Is the Baserunner Steal Ability slider backwards?

I think so; it's reversed again.

Nomo, I just hit 50 games and I can't seem to get the K's anywhere but in the 6.3-6.6 range. I've been using mostly #1's and 2's so I expected them to be over if anything. The only variations I have to your sliders are the following:

          fielder run speed 3
          fielder reaction 9
          pickoffs 0
          manager hook 6

Any thoughts? I wouldn't think these variations would affect the K's.

          Thanks, Steve

I don't have a solid suggestion since I don't see this myself (and it's not just the pitchers that matter; batters also matter, if not more so... try pitching to HOU and you'll see many more strikeouts, for example).

That said, I think the least intrusive way (at least for the way I've adjusted) to increase swing & miss might be to bring Timing back down to 5 (out of 10). You might try this for a while and see what happens.

What other effects might lowering the timing have other than swings/miss?

It's not entirely the most robust conclusion (since I didn't test for too long), but it might reduce line drives. ... which may actually not be so bad, given that you can still use Solid Hit slider to increase LD if you wish.

I think we are all just going to see natural variations until we build up a lot more games to average things out.

I'm through 93 games now with the same sliders for the batter/hitter confrontation. My issue seems to be with the walks. Strike Outs are fine at 7.12. Walks are a little high at 3.58.

Everything else is very acceptable. Even my triples are only at .20. Home runs a little low at .84.

Also important remember is that per game stats can be misleading unless your per game plate appearance ends up being close to the per game MLB ave. It's actually better to compute and compare BB% and K% (BB/PA and K/PA).

I know this is a little off topic for this thread but I am playing through a franchise season right now and noticed after saving last night that two teams now show crazy records. The Braves are 71-185. I am playing them in my next series and everytime i try to go to the game the game freezes. I'm not sure how to get past this without the game freezing up. Anyone else have this issue? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

On a side note, thank you all for the hard work with the slider sets. They've been a great help for me in seeking realism when I watch a game

Yes the Apr. 15 set in the first post is still my current set. I'm unsure if it was a good idea to go extreme with BR Aggressiveness at 9, but you can of course lower it if you so desire...
