Re: TNK - 2013 REALISM SLIDERS

I'm toying around with pitch speed at 9 or possibly even 10. At 8, I feel like I'm out ahead of too many fastballs. Maybe that's just me adjusting to this year's game, just wondered what takes other people had regarding this.

    Thanks.

I am wondering if having contact at 6 is causing this issue (power at 4). I am feeling like its either all or nothing for the most part. Maybe upping contact to 7 will open the timing window up and allow for more variety of hit types and scoring though rally's instead of just the long ball? I would guess that about 90% of the 19 runs I laid on the yankees came from the long ball.

      thoughts?
I am also currently experiencing very similar play. Another thing I am seeing is that I dont feel like dominant pitchers are fooling me and I dont feel I strike out enough. I was thinking maybe lowering contact and power by 1. As per my strikeout issue would raising pitch speed help or should I also tweak something else?

I guess the hitting will take time to get used to but to be honest I do not like what they have done with it. You most likely won't be early on fast balls with the pitch speed set on 10 but you will have a helluva time with anyone who has that 15-20 MPH difference between a good curve and a good fastball. I like the timing window they used for 9-12 and find myself playing those games much more often the the latest edition. Hit variety and ball physics aside those games are superior IMO. That's not to say the ball physics on the prior editions were bad but there is something about this game that I am not in love with.

Can you get a good game with these sliders with most settings at automatic (fielding, baserunning, etc.)? I've always had better luck keeping statistical averages more inline with real-life because the computer tends to avoid making dumb 'human' mistakes.

Following the thread, I realize you don't use the "power" or "contact" swings much (if at all) & that these sliders aren't meant to be used with the "normal" swing only...

BUT... IF I wanted to use these additional swings, what slider adjustments (if any) would you suggest? Maybe reduce contact (-1) click?

Playing with KC & using the "normal" swing exclusively, I like the feel of HR's with Butler & the Hosmer types... I'm just not so sure the lighter hitting guys will reach the fences? During testing, I made the mistake of pressing the "power" swing with Giovatella on a 3-0 meatball & he hit a majestic HR into the 2nd deck... I soooooo wish I had pressed the "normal" swing on that one to see how it played out!!! Not so sure he would have even reached the fences had I not used the "power" button, however?

            Thanks for your contributions here...

Re: TNK - 2013 REALISM SLIDERS

OK Guys - I'm ready to start my franchise

Do you guys want me to upload my OSFM Rosters with adjusted lineups, rotations, etc?

I went through every teams roster and put guys who are coming back pretty soon like Jeter back in the Yankees lineup but left guys like Granderson, Arod & Teixeira who are further away in the minors. I did this for every team.

I also removed all minor leaguers on the 40 man rosters off the 40 man rosters to give each team just 25 guys on the 40 man roster. This way when you start your franchise and end Spring Training - the CPU doesn't go crazy making a million roster moves and completely screwing up the real life rosters, lineups and rotations. All you have to do is take 1 hour of your time and on day 1 of the regular season - pull up the real 40 man rosters on mlb.com and add the guys back on the 40 man rosters before you play Game #1 of the season.

I also made a very slight adjustment to the sliders
INCREASED HUM & CPU SOLID HITS TO 3

I updated post #1 of the thread to reflect the change

I put the rosters in the vault:

                      OSFM TNK 25MAN/40MAN

They also include some edits I did for Boston

TNK - BOSTON RED SOX FRANCHISE

Game #1 of the Season - Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees

Pitching Matchup - Jon Lester vs. CC Sabathia

The Red Sox begin the 2013 season under new manager John Farrell looking to rebound after a disastrous 2012 season. The Sox will open up the season in New York without slugger David Ortiz and SS Stephen Drew who are sidelined with injuries. The Red Sox will be starting exciting rookies Jackie Bradley Jr. in LF and slick fielding Jose Iglesias at SS to begin the season. They will face a Yankees team that is currently decimated by injuries of their own and will put out a starting lineup that is missing Jeter, Granderson, Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez who are all injured

                            * The Red Sox got off to a quick start in the top of the 1st as Sabathia hit Victorino with a curveball that got too far inside. Dustin Pedroia followed with an RBI double to CF to make it 1-0. Will Middlebrooks delivered a two out RBI single to LF to score Pedroia and give the Sox a 2-0 lead.

                            * The Yankees had runners at 2nd & 3rd after a double by Francisco in the bottom of the 2nd and Ichiro would pickup the RBI on a ground out to make it 2-1. Lester would get Nix to ground out to Middlebrooks to end the inning.

                            * Sabathia bounced back after a rough 1st inning and Lester was finding his groove as the score was still 2-1 Boston after 4 innings of play. The Red Sox were doing a good job of getting deep into counts and making Sabathia work as he was at 70 pitches through 4 innings of work.

                            * Jackie Bradley Jr. picked up his 1st hit of his major league career as he singled to lead off the top of the 5th. Jose Iglesias followed with a bloop single into RF and Bradley scampered to 3rd base to setup runners on the corners with nobody out. Ellsbury grounded into a fielders choice to score Bradley and make it 3-1. Sabathia avoided the big inning as he got Victorino and Pedroia to ground out and strand Ellsbury as the Red Sox had a 3-1 lead.

                            * Lester was cruising and he got Cervelli to fly out deep to LF as Bradley made a nice running catch to end the 5th as we would go to the 6th inning with Boston leading 3-1.

                            * Joba Chamberlain replaced Sabathia on the mound for New York to begin the 6th inning as Sabathia was done after throwing 93 pitches in 5 innings of work and Chamberlain held the Red Sox down for 2 innings as we would go to the bottom of the 7th with the score still 3-1.

                            * Kevin Youkilis singled to lead off the bottom of the 7th. Lester would bounce back to get Wells and Francisco each to pop out and bring up Ichiro with two outs and Youkilis on 1st base. Ichiro hit the ball hard up the middle but Iglesias was able to make the tough play and and beat Youkilis to the bag at 2nd for the final out and we would head to the 8th inning with Boston leading 3-1.

                            * Chamberlain remained in the game and Pedroia would single to begin the top of the 8th. Napoli was up next and he hit what should have been a tailor made double play but the flip from Nunez to Cano was offline and everybody was safe setting up two men on for Will Middlebrooks with nobody out. Middlebrooks grounded into a 5-4-3 double play as Chamberlain picks up two big outs. Saltalamacchia flew out to RF as Chamberlain gets out of the jam and keeps the Yankees close as Boston leads 3-1.

                            * Lester would get Nix to fly out to begin the bottom of the 8th and John Farrell would make the move to Koji Uehara out of the Boston pen. Uehara gave up a 1 out single to Cervelli but bounced right back as he jammed a 2 seam fastball in on the hands of Brett Gardner to get a groundball as Iglesias & Pedroia combined on a quick turn for a big 6-4-3 double play to end the inning and send the game to the 9th with Boston holding on to a 3-1 lead.

                            * Shaun Kelley replaced Chamberlain on the mound for the top of the 9th and got the 1st two outs before Jose Iglesias singled to CF. Kelley would get Ellsbury to ground out to end the inning and we would go to the bottom of the 9th with the Yankees trailing 3-1.

                            * Boston would turn to their new closer Joel Hanrahan who would face a high pressure spot in his 1st appearance in a Red Sox uniform as he would enter the game with a 3-1 lead in Yankee Stadium with Nunez, Cano and Youkilis due up. Eduardo Nunez fell behind in the count but was able to punch a single into RF to lead off the inning and the Yankees would bring the tying run to the plate with nobody out. Robinson Cano was up next and Hanrahan got him to pop up for the 1st out. Hanrahan threw 4 straight sliders to Youkilis before blowing a 98 mph fastball past him for the 2nd out and that would bring up Vernon Wells as the Yankees were down to their final out. Hanrahan closed it out as Wells hit the ball on the ground to Middlebrooks at 3rd base and he fired over to Napoli for the final out as the Red Sox win 3-1 on Opening Day

Hey TNK, just curious which roster did you use as your base? The original OSFM or did you use one of Ripner's with the fixes? Also will this work if I only want to take one team into franchise mode and not do all 30 team control? What would happen if I only keep 25 on the 40 man and don't bump the rosters up to 40 man once my season starts in franchise mode? Thanks!

Although known for your sliders, I think I like your rosters best too!!!
