    Re: Armor & Swords/Marino's - MLB The Show 13 Timed/Classic Sim Sliders

Ok, I'm curious as to other peoples' opinions on hitting approaches. I used the veteran hitting set for awhile and moved back to the All-Star set the other day. While I can still get 5-8 hits per game, I'm not scoring at all. I'm also getting almost no extra-base hits. So I need to change my approach.

What I do now is take every first pitch. It's a really bad habit I've gotten into, so how do you guys suggest approaching first pitches?

Also, what types of swings do you all use in certain situations? I've gotten used to using the power swing with 0 strikes (or a 3-1 count), normal swing with 1 strike (except 3-1 count) and contact swing with 2 strikes. Is that a decent way to approach it? FYI I have pitch speed at either 5 or 6 (can't remember right now).

Just wanted to get peoples' thoughts on batting approaches with these particular sliders.

I tend to take the first pitch. Eventually, the AI adapts and will try and start off with a fat one. That's when I get a bit more aggressive. I use power swing ever once in a while if I'm trying to get something started, when I catch on to the pitchers tendencies, and in 3-0 and 3-1 counts and look for a certain zone. I have started using more contact swings with two strikes, and come out with some quality ABs. I try and look for a certain zone and lay off until two strikes. As I get more addicted to this game, my patience gets better. My advice is be patient, but also be selective. If a guy lays one down the middle on the first pitch, go after it. Then once they're in the stretch you can really sit in a zone and go for it.

I'm interested in trying these sliders out, but I have a question.

Are you guys getting enough double plays?

I currently play with default sliders on All Star, other than CPU pitching sliders and pitch speed. It seems like there's too many blown double plays, with the runner being safe at 1st. Maybe my expectations are off and this happens more than I thought in the real MLB, but turning down fielder arm strength, and not turning down baserunner speed seems like it would worsen the problem. Opinions?

I've been tempted to turn down baserunner speed, but I don't want to mess up the balance of the game if my perceptions of double plays are off. Also, when the CPU steals, I can throw them out 75% of the time, which seems like the inverse of what it should be. Turning baserunner speed down would worsen that, too.

Just plug them in and play 15-20 games. See and feel how the game plays. I am quite confident you will feel like your getting a great variety of games

            I'm using the Hybrid sliders...

I got my *** handed to me in the opening series of my Cards Franchise... D'Backs swept me right out of town... I lost 6-2, 4-2, 4-2... Team BA is .194... ERA is 4.50.

Okay so downloaded the slider set off the vault, and have played 4 games with my dodgers, pitched with Grienke Kershaw Ryu and Beckett, still yet to give up a run or walk. I've given up 9,3,8,5 hits in each of the games and each pitcher went 8-8.2 IP and only being around 80-95 pitches. My hitting has been well mixed up, scoring between 1-9 runs a game. I use pulse pitching, could this be the reason I'm dominating so much? If so, any suggestions on how to make pitching a little more difficult? Thanks, loving the slider set so far aside for lack of runs against.

It is not designed for pulse pitching.

It is a Classic Pitching set.

Yea, if you're using meter or pulse the human control and consistency needs to be lower than 4. But lower than 4 on classic and things get ugly fast, lol.

Ah so ill just lower it to 4. I like pulse to much to change, but i really like the slider set so not changing that either. Thanks for the input guys.

Yeah, I've been having the same issue with this slider set. I'm using pulse as well and I'm going to have to lower the user pitcher control/consistency. The other issue I'm having is it seems to be way too easy to hit. I'm averaging 10-13 hits a game and at least one HR. I'm guessing lowering contact and power will tone that down, but should I worry about solid hits as well?

I've been using the Hybrid sliders for about 2 weeks now, and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your work on these. They have made my Red Sox and Twins franchises a blast to play.

I hit more realistic on All Star but it seemed like the cpu refuses to walk me. What cpu pitching sliders u using, and does the cpu pitch u tough on all star?

I am using the sliders downloaded from the vault for A&S and Marino and I usually get 2-4 walks a game, could probably be more to but I swing at a lot of dumb pitches. I have also noticed that the computer will throw pitches that keep fooling me, playing the pirates Lirano kept throwing his curveball and I just couldnt hit it at all, I was waiting for the changeup every time and then he would drop the curve.

Just got the game and started with these sliders. I never used classic pitching or timed hitting but i'm liking it so far. Hitting is a work in progress, 27 k's in 68 ab's...ouch. I had to drop pitch speed to 4.

Anyways, my question has to deal with fielder running speed. Has anyone tried it at 3? I've seen 2 sure fire doubles cutoff by OF's who could not do it in real life. Plus Josh Hamilton appears to have as much range as Trout/Bourjos.
