Re: Stats-Based CPU Sliders [MLB 14 Version]

Hey Nomo. I was looking over your slider set for The Show '14 and had a question. I see you say on page 1 that it's the currently recommended slider set with collected data through 5/13. When I look at the attached spreadsheet link, I don't see a tab for a 5/13 slider set. The last non-QC slider set I see is for 5/7. The sliders you have for 5/7 look like this:

    Foul Frequency: 3
    Solid Hit: 6
    Starter Stamina: 6
    Pitcher Control: 3
    Pitcher Consistency: 4
    Strike Frequency: 4
    Manager Hook: 4
    Pitch Speed: 0
    Fielding Errors: 7
    Throwing Errors: 3
    Fielder Run Speed: 3
    Fielder Reaction: 4
    Fielder Arm Strength: 4
    BR Steal Ability: 0

Whereas the slider set on page 1 looks like this:

    Foul Frequency: 3
    Solid Hit: 7
    Starter Stamina: 6
    Reliever Stamina: 6
    Pitcher Control: 3
    Pitcher Consistency: 4
    Strike Frequency: 4
    Manager Hook: 4
    Pitch Speed: 2
    Fielding Errors: 7
    Throwing Errors: 3
    Fielder Run Speed: 3
    Fielder Reaction: 4
    Fielder Arm Strength: 4
    BR Steal Ability: 0

The differences are in Solid Hit, Reliever Stamina and Pitch Speed,

So is your currently recommended slider set from the 5/13 set contained on page 1 or from the 5/7 tab in the spreadsheet? Just trying to make sure I'm running with the most accurate slider set you developed.

The slider set dated later is usually the "best" one that I use. I don't know how that mix-up occurred, but sometimes I test sliders at slightly exaggerated settings, in order to "bracket" the target setting (it is easier to zoom in on a target value knowing the min and max of its range than whether you need to keep going higher, higher, and higher, etc.), so the slider set date might not exactly align with the latest date on the spreadsheet tab.

One thing to note is that this is for MLB 14, and not for MLB 15. A set from one year to another tends not to work the same way (in detail anyways).

Yeah, I don't have '15 yet. Just now getting back into '14. Will probably pick up '15 once some patches come down and there's been some time to do some in-depth slider tests. We're definitely lucky to have you here doing everything you do. You make the game for us stat nuts that much more enjoyable. Thank you again.

I was doing a side by side comparison in the slider spreadsheet and it looks like the tab for 5/6 has the most stat categories in-line with the real MLB numbers. I don't see any results for 5/13 (other than QC, but the sliders don't match from page 1 to the sliders in the spreadsheet), so I am not sure how all those numbers came out.

So I think the best one to go with, based off the spreadsheet, would be the sliders from the 5/6 tab.

If you happen to turn on '14 in the near future, let me know which sliders you were playing with before you moved on to '15. I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

If you go to the Slider Vault and find my username (nomo17k), I think I uploaded the "final" version there (it should be labeled by date there as well).

I might have not followed the dating convention by matching the date on the spreadsheet tab and slider. Again, sometimes I deliberately "overshoot" slider value, so say if I have tabs labeled 4/15 and 4/22 with Pitcher Consistency 5 and 3, it's entirely possible that I decide to use Pitcher Consistency = 4 as the optimal value (because I overshot by using 3) on 4/29, and label the slider set 4/29, because that's the date that I decided and release the slider set.

Thank you for the response. I will go back to the 5/13 slider set and run with that until I convert to '15. Thanks again.
