Hof it is for me then boss lol. Simmed a game earlier before work on all star with your slider and from I see they work just as fine but I only got about 3 innings in but I’m already loving it... I use your roster every year to sim real life games as they are scheduled for the day betting my own money and since your roster came out I’ve been on a winning streak as the sim have played out almost exactly like they have in real life I love you mann keep it upComment

Re: The TrueSim Roster Project: MLB 19
Cyclo...as you know I think your ratings are great and can't wait for completion. But this is one area I have a question about. I saw early on that Bret Gardner had an arm strength of 88. To say Gardner throws like a girl would be an injustice to all girls. IMO he has one of the weakest arms in the game. And this if from a Yanks fan. Half the time he can't get the ball to the cutoff man on a medium distance fly ball. Another quick example: Some pitchers who throw 100mph have really low arm strength and others who don't throw hard have very high arm strength. This is why I asked if you can at some point, if you fee like it, explain the ratings without having to reveal your "secret sauce?"Last edited by knich; 06-09-2019, 10:46 AM.Comment

Arm strength is difficult to quantify. It is influenced by position, basic fielding metrics (outfield assist to error ratio in this instance) as well as advanced metrics like defensive runs saved and outs above average, which factors in how well outfielders hold runners.
I will re-run the calculations for arm strength and make some fixes to the current system.Comment

Gardner's arm strength was boosted initially becuse of his primary position being at CF to begin the season. It is 66 now that hs primary position has been reset to LF.

Thank you very much for the explanation. This is very helpfu. I assumed there were many factors that went in to the numbers. Glad to see he no longer has arm strength similar to Aaron Hicks who is regarded to have one of the strongest arms in the game (clocked at 105mph). MLB Network (certainly not the bible of baseball) also ranked Aaron Hicks as 5th best CF in game.Comment
