    Re: Itbeme23 True Simulation Sliders - 2016

Game 1 still in progress with Legend Classic pitching and 0/0 human pitch sliders.

Losing 4-3, batting in the Top 7th.

Going to pull my rookie Will Bullock (fictional) after a gutsy performance.

    6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, .285 BABIP

Big damage was a 3-run HR in the 3rd. We were down 4-1 at that point. He battled and was able to escape a bases loaded situation in the 5th with no runs scored.

That seems in line with his ratings - 70's H/9, 40's BB/9, 50's K/9. K's weren't there for him (had like 1 through four innings) but he is below average there right now and might not have had his top stuff. Won't judge the K's too much yet. Might sim until Boeve's next start just to test with a top power arm.

Yep your right I keep getting to many Wild Pitches too when it's on 0 I am also sick of the commentators crapping on that 50% first pitch strikes are not good enough!!!!

Yep. I hate this. Starter hook slider should be more meaningful for sure.

It's funny - the game seems reluctant to even suggest to pull your starter for a PH even if you're behind heading into the later innings, but the CPU won't even give their guy a shot at a 7 or 8 inning good start to set up the bullpen.

League % as in MLB? Last year it was 70% in MLB.

I'm noticing the CS too. I've been caught 4 out 5 times with good stealing players and picked off once (though that's getting back used to the MLB13-style leads runners take. Sometimes they take the extra lead themselves again. When I got picked off, he took 2 extra leads lol - poor guy).

Baserunners seem slower this year? I was at 1 in MLB15 and it was faster than the same setting in MLB16 to my eyes. I put it up to 3 and it seems more like MLB15.

          Re: Itbeme23 True Simulation Sliders - 2016

Finished the game Astros @ Red Sox, me playing with Boston. Great pitching duel game between Keuchel and Price. A couple things bothered me with this game that I think slider adjustment will help I'll get to in a sec.

          Astros pitching
          D. Keuchel- 6ip 9h 1r 1er 0bb 1k
          W. Harris- 2ip 1h 1r 1er 0bb 1k

Really bothered me that in the 7th inning, Keuchel was still on the mound, gave up a single to lead off the inning and they pulled him out of the game. At the time I was leading 1-0, and Keuchel was at ONLY 80 pitches! Also, he got himself out of jams all game long getting me to a gidp. This was with Manager hook slider at 4. I'm moving it down to 2 now cause that was silly!

          Red Sox pitching
          D. Price- 8ip 4h 1r 1er 1bb 9k
          J. Tazawa- 1ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 2k

Price was great! With cpu hitting sliders on default I saw A LOT of swings and misses. I can't say 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure all 11k were swings and misses (Allstar level). With control/consistency at 0/0 I only walked one batter, which is low but I had 9k with my SP and he pitched 8 innings so...And with QC on, I normally walk quite a few more...the last game I posted about I walked 5 I believe with a #4 SP though. With sliders set there there isn't anything else I can do with those unless I played of HOF or Legend I guess. But I'm afraid then I'd have to mess with cpu offensive sliders to compensate, which I don't want to do.

Also, I didn't manage to draw a single walk. And I can't recall a time where I said to myself, "if I just let that one go I'd be on base." that usually happens 2-3 times a game for me. I'm chalking it up to great pitching by Keuchel, and the umpire called balls and strikes very fair and consistently. Which also cuts down on strikeouts too.

Overall, I'm definitely going to lower Human contact to 4 to try and get more swings and misses, thus more strikeouts. And lowering Manager hook slider to 2 because pulling Keuchel like they did really upset me. I'd gave him at least one more batter, may two...especially at only 80 pitches!

Oh and yeah won the game 2-1 on a walkoff HR over the green monster by Pedroria to lead off the bottom of the 9th!

Yep the whole CPU pulling players just because the score is a 1 run game really pisses me off! sometimes I go to the controller screen select the CPU team then go back to my own so the CPU doesn't do a braindead choice like that, it works just make sure you change teams on controller screen before they get a chance to hook the starter and quickly swtich backyou gotta do that after every out or hit walk, there should be a option for us to control all CPU managing I just like realistic games and not winning because they throw in some BP guy in a 1-0 after I was domianted, now if the score was 4-0 they wouldn't take him out the AI goes by the score NOT by fatigue or pitch count they gotta change this logic

I got the slider on 0 btw and makes no difference

Lol well that sucks. I know last year I switched sides in order to put in proper RP in key situations. They don't ever put in a RP for one batter for the matchup, then put in another for instance.

They seem to pull SP out too early, and leave in RP too long. Good example is this game. Pulled Keuchel too soon, and left the RP in too long. Their RP pitched the 7th and 8th and gave up no runs. Should've never started a 3rd inning out of the bullpen. Consequently he gave up the walkoff homerun to start the 9th.

Last year, I did switch controller over to manage their bullpen in game better, and even do a simple mound visit which they rarely ever use. But I never did what you do with the SP. It does make you mad the logic is so bad of when to pull a SP and RP.

My question is, when and how do you know what inning or when to start doing what you do?? And...you have to even do it after an out?? That's ridiculous if so lol

What I realized is that the pitching feedback via the vibration, is so, so, so sensitive, that it requires you to feel the buzzing on the controller, then move it a red one back towards the zone to dial in the black.

But alas, yes you made the great point that the CPU seems to “realize” that you have set your sliders to Zero, so they become ultra aggressive early on, trying to jump on the mistake. I fixed this in just the manners you mentioned.

I lowered the contact for the CPU and I increased the foul balls by the CPU, to accomplish two things. I get rewarded on a perfect pitch, by some swings and misses, but I get punished by the CPU making some great at-bats against me, with fouling off my really nasty stuff, and thereby increasing my pitch counts.

I played a game this morning before work, and matched up the opening day starters with Price v Kluber in a Cleveland matchup. Price got out of the first inning with 6 pitches, and I started to lament your sentiments about unrealistic pitch counts, but I had to take him out after 7.1 with 98 pitches in a 6-5 game. I was pretty happy with that, and had I been smart, and let Tazawa throw his warm up pitches on the mound, I may have fared better, but Junichi gave up three runs in the 8th, and I blew a great game by Price.

My goal every year with my sliders, is to make the game play just like you watch a game on TV. I am nine games into this season, and I have the gameplay itself dialed in to where I feel the games plays as close to the real thing as I can make it. I am a Pitch Speed Zero guy as well, so my ability to work walks against the CPU pitcher is based on actually getting to see the movement of the pitches with the lowered speed.

If you are really feeling randy, set your pitch control at Zero and then bring both pitch speeds down to zero, and play a game that way. It is not that much slower than default, but it is slow enough that when you recognize the curveball as such, and you realize that as it starts to break, it cannot be in the zone, you’ll get some moments at the plate where you are commending the CPU pitcher on some nasty stuff, but you will revel in your ability to lay off, increase his pitch count, and wait for something fat to swat.

I can PM you my 2016 Version of my Ultra-Real set, and I urge you to play three games, and give yourself enough time to actually play them as you would manage a real game.

You’ll need to move defenses around, as I have the fielders’ speeds tuned down to really highlight the fast guys, and you’ll pay dearly for guys who have lost a step. I have throwing speed and accuracy down to realistic levels, and if you are an Analog fielder like me, those throws from deep short to first will get the juices flowing…The result is baserunners out by a half step when they ought to be, and I think you’ll really, really enjoy the realistic outcomes of the plays as they pan out on the field.

The last piece to my ultra-realistic jigsaw puzzle was the pitching, and with these Accuracy and Consistency Sliders at Zero, coupled with the CPU contact down and foul balls up, you can start to see some real challenges blossom at the pitcher/batter duals.

Enjoy the game, and feel free to bounce some ideas for slider tweaks off me.

                  First game - won 6-5.

Flow of the game felt good again and using Bullock, I could feel his lack of control and it burned him with 4 walks and a big 3-run HR. Still, he had enough to get by out of some jams - could have been worse. Took the lead 5-4 but Chris Taylor made an error on a DP turn that let the tying run score (he's really having issues this year...0-5 to drop to .233 BA...no idea what his problem is).

And I don't know what got into Rondon. He's struck out 6 batters in 3 innings. This time I let him a 2-inning save to give Leone a break. No problem.

                  Bullock's line: 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
                  Team line: 9 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 6 K

                  Game 2:

Okay - this is what I feared would happen eventually. Top pitcher - 80+ control and BB/9. 99 OVR - etc, etc.

It wasn't that he didn't have his best stuff. It was stupid. He was throwing like he had less than half those command/control ratings. Pitches just going all over the place. 3 WPs in an inning. Walks galore. Just about every pitch in the zone was down the middle.

I couldn't even finish it because it wasn't even like baseball. The struggle/inconsistency I saw with Bullock looked like baseball. He didn't have consistent location - gave up walks, gave up a big home run, but he also could make pitches and work out of jams and keep the team in the game.

This is why I don't like the higher difficulties with Classic pitching. It wasn't nail biting or being cautious - it was BP + throwing blind + not respecting ratings. A bad day for him shouldn't be like he has 8 control instead of 80. And 9 H/9 instead of 89. Too extreme when things are bad.

I *might* try this with HoF - split the difference between All-Star and Legend.

Replayed that game on HoF and lost 2-1. Padres got a walk off double. I probably should have taken my LHP out - but the Padres didn't PH and I thought the match ups would offset the fatigue. Nope.

Boeve didn't have his best - his command drifted, but he did have his good fastball and his slider cooperated. The splitter and cutter didn't consistently but he made it work.

Ended up going 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K. Had 1 WP on a slider that had insane movement. It made the hitter swing and miss and the catcher whiffed. Only thing that caught it was the backstop lol. Overall still a strong outing. Good enough to win, but ran into a tough nut to crack and was stuck in a 1-1 duel.

If HoF keeps looking like this in terms of realistic and competitive games with the rest of the pitchers, I could settle on it with 0/0.

Well, I too played another three game test run, and this time, moved the Pitching back to Hall of Fame from Legend.

I will keep the Pitching setting here at HOF, and I love the difference that this small tweak made.

I still have to be careful, but now it does not seem like the CPU is stalking me, and waiting to hammer every single pitch that misses. It is odd to me that the switch to HOF would make such a profound difference in not only my pitching, but the CPU's ability to square up the pitches that just miss.

I am beginning to think that the HOF-Legend is not just Pitcher skills based, but there must be some CPU aggression, and overall bump up to their eye at the plate as well.

So, KB beat me to it in his findings, but I am going to go with throttle-up on the 0/0, but I will move down to HOF for sure.

Three more games to night to test the rest of the slider set, but to the guys that I PM'd this years set, move the pitching back to HOF down from legend, and let me know how you fared.

Finished another game. Nationals (me) @ Dodgers. Scherzer vs Kershaw.

                        Dodgers pitching

                        Kershaw- 8ip 3h 1r 1er 1bb 6k
                        Jansen- 0.2ip 3h 2r 2er 0bb 1k (BS)
                        Howell 0.1ip 0h 0r 0er 0bb 0k

Kershaw dominated through 8. Pinch hit for in the 8th so Jansen was in for the close with a 2-1 lead. I hit two doubles on him scoring 1 run to tie it. Man on 3rd with two outs I hit a groundball to their SS Seager. I mean directly to him and he didn't come up with it so I score to take the 3-2 lead. However, the game log says "Taylor grounded and deflected off shortstop Seager for a single. Zimmerman scores." What bs! That was a definite error lol.

Another solid game pitching by the team I'm playing with. Next game I'm using #5 SP for both sides. I'm thinking of changing difficulty to HOF pitching honestly as I see a couple on this thread are. We'll see how it goes with a #5 SP though.

Well...with the Reds #5 starter at home against the Diamondbacks I have given up 8 hits, 7er, 2 homeruns, 0bb, and 5k in 2 innings.

Allstar pitching level is just fine I'd say lol. What is bothering me that I've noticed is it feels like I get too many strikeouts. Thoughts? Anyone else feel they get too many in a game? I'll finish this game out somehow, but down 7-1 bottom of the 2nd isn't fun lol

Ended up losing the game 10-3. Robbie Ray pitched great for them going, 8 innings 3h 3er 1bb 7k

Moscot for the Reds ended up limping through 5ip 9h 8er 1bb 6k.

Again strikeouts are too high for me as I struck them out 15 times. I seem to always go over 10 per game. Raising cpu contact to 6 to try and help cause I see a lot of swing and miss strikeouts.

Rough game pitching. They hit 4 homeruns against me with four different players. I hit two homeruns myself to get my 3 runs.

Well - on a 3-game losing streak...every loss blown by the bullpen. The last one blowing a 6-0 lead in 1 1/3 innings to lose 8-6.

I think I'll have to go up to 1/1 or something. The relief talent in my league is trash (I'm in year 7 - catcher and relievers are basically extinct). I was going to shake up my bullpen...until I saw the "talent" in my AAA system...and there's even less on the FA wire.

Fictional players (which are a growing population this far in) have weird talent profiles too.

I don't know what's gotten into Tillman though. Maybe it's the combo of his stuff or something.

I can see staying on HoF though. I just need to pull in these extreme results. It's just too feast-or-famine and if I see one more 10 in bunting player lay down a perfect squeeze bunt, I will scream.

I swear the hardest thing for sports games to emulate is league average. It's always ace or trash.

I have been pitching on HOF with it set at 0/1 and having great results. I do use quick counts as well but it shouldn't matter. I pitch 8.1ip with Steven Matz earlier today against the Padres I believe. So it's definitely possible to have great pitch outings.

Playing Mariners @ Yankees now. I'm the Yankees...went with #2 starters for both teams.

Lost 3-2 in a very well played game. A Rod RBI double in the 1st to start the scoring. They tie it up in the 2nd. Cano player of the game with a 2 run homer in the 6th that gave them a 3-1 lead. Seth Smith with a ridiculous diving catch that saved at least 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th.

                                Iwakuma pitched 6.2ip 9h 2er 3bb 3k

                                Pineda 6ip 6h 3er 3bb 6k

Loving the way the game is playing now!
