Probably a dumb question but I read that you threw in Home and Away modifiers for a twist. What is the difference in home/away and human/cpu?

Red Sox (4-2) vs Tigers (3-3)
Porcello vs Zimmerman

The Red Sox come in the last of the 4 game series trying for the 4 game sweep on the road. Porcello was masterful in this game going 8 IP and allowing 4 hits no walks and striking out 5. We were backed up with 3 HR in the game.

It was a good game. I think Porcello was just on today. Half of my hits were HR so I will continue to watch that. I might try going back down to 4 with power since my contact is at 7. Or go back to 6 for contact and power at 5.

I have modifiers that will go to who ever is the home team for that game and for the away team, so if the CPU is the home team they would get any home team modifiers and vice versa for the away team.

I also have modifiers that are just applied to the CPU and human. There are minimums and maximums so they cannot get too high or too low.

There are more favorable modifiers for the home team, because home teams naturally bat better at home so I wanted to allow a better chance for who ever is the home team to get those modifiers.

I thought you were hitting on All Star?

I decided to go back to veteran like we were using with BYU. AS just seems to hold down the offense with directional hitting. I believe I am close with getting these sliders to where you can have a decent competitive game vs. the CPU. That is why I added modifiers so things can vary from game to game just a like real teams. Some games MLB teams will hit the stuffing out of the ball and the next game you go out and get 2 hits and shut out. So I am going for that here by placing plus or minus modifiers to add that extra little challenge. It will also allow me to go back and look at certain games to allow me to fine tune the sliders based on previous results.

Thanks buddy. I'm going to play one more game on the base and then I'll start using the sliders. I shut down Detroit last game 5-1 with Porcello and I started the next game and I started a 2 game series with Baltimore. Price is going the first game and he gave up a 3 hits and a walk including a 3 run home run to Chris Davis for a 3-0 lead after 1 inning. Then had to save the game to go to work.

So I like what I'm seeing is I shut down Detroit and the next game give up a 3 run HR the next game. So I'm not going to panic when I have a good game or a bad game anymore.

That is what I have to remember - going from a good game to a bad game. Just like the pros they can come out one game and look like the 27 Yankees and the next look like the 40 win Mets from years past for example.

What is your contact and power on and what levels are you hitting and pitching on? I agree that power plays a key role in the ball coming off the bat just like Solid hits. I saw what you posted earlier and I have been thinking that same thing about dropping the contact down and raising the power. I remember testing the power of 5 a few games back and the CPU just ate it up. I think I had my contact at 6 and timing at 6 too. I forget because I didn't write them down for an official version change.

My last game I played using my V7.2 with the contact at 7, power 4, timing 5, solid hits 5. Veteran hitting and All-Star pitching.

I had a +1 solid hit, CPU had +1 pitch consist., and fielding error inf/OF +1.

I blew out Toronto 9-2, hitting 5 HR along the way. Most I had all year in a game. More surprisingly was that Pedro Alvarez hit 3 himself and I wasn't going to start him at all. I collected a season high 17 hits, Toronto had 6 hits and I k'd them 10 times.

This may sound strange, but when the CPU pitch consistency goes up I think they pitch worse compared to when it is lowered. The times it was lowered I hit worse and the times it was raised it hit better. I will continue to track this trend, but that is what makes the modifiers interesting because they have a chance to have both if drawn.

Right now I think I'm trying Contact at 7 and power at 4. I'm either going to do 7/4 or 6/5. But not 7 and 5. I'm wondering if the contact at 7 will give me a little push off the ball so power can be at 4. I am hitting and pitching on All Star. I was using Armor's sliders at 5 across the board and I was hitting .282 on All Star so I know I can hit on All Star. I'm just afraid for me that I'm going to have too much offense dropping back down to Veteran. But then again when you are slumping and having a hard time hitting Veteran and All Star feels the same. I have Timing at 5 now as well.

Well Consistency is them like throwing "bad off the mark" pitches right? Well if you are a free swinger that sometimes could be bad cause you will be swinging at more bad pitches. Does that make sense?

I lost the 1st game of the short 2 game series with the Orioles. I lost 7-2. Price gave up 6 runs in the first 3 innings All with 2 outs. Bundy had me off balance. I did get 9 hits but hit into 3 double plays. I moved down to Veteran hitting with contact at 6. 3 of my hits came from my bench players when the game was out of hand. The only thing with Veteran is I can't strike out. I only had 3 strikeouts.

Pittsburgh Franchise game 94:
Brewers (34-61) @ Pirates (54-40)

Cole was dealing for the first 6 innings. I was up 2-0 on a solo HR from Polanco and a sac fly from Cole. 7th inning Thames hit a leadoff single to bring up Braun. I had him at a 1-2 count and threw 2 sliders on the outside corner and did not get the call. Came in with a fastball inside on 3-2 and he hit a game tying HR. Then a 1 out triple by Broxton followed by a infield single to give the Brewers a 3-2 lead. Jaso hit a pinch hit HR in the 8th to take the lead 4-3. Watson closed it out in the 9th.

I struck out 7 times. I went back to All Star hitting with contact at 7 and power at 4. See how this goes the next game.

Won my next game 11-4. Was expecting a high scoring game cause both pitchers had high ERA's. Had the same slider set and All Star hitting.

Modifiers were Human Control +1, Baserunner Speed +2, Outfield Throwing Errors +1, wind 7.

Brewers 4 10 0
Pirates 11 16 1

HR: Brewers 0 Pirates
2B: Brewers 2 Pirates 3

Brewers had 8 singles, 2 doubles and 5 walks. Hutchison got himself out of jams the whole game thanks to a couple of strikeouts. His final line was 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 9 K.

Keeping my eye out on the CPU hitting. They seem to get a lot of hits. But don't want to lower anything cause I'm pitching on All Star so I don't want to neuter their offense.

I'm so frustrated in this game. I'm now pitching on Veteran. I'm mad that it had to come to this. But I'm tired of giving up over 10 hits in a game. The final straw was to the last place Padres team against my best pitcher and they hit 15 hits and 10 runs and then the next game they score 5 runs in the first inning. I don't know what is going on. I used to be able to pitch on Hall of Fame. I no longer hold down the buttons on pitching I just tap every pitch cause everything was hanging or in the dirt.

I am having amazing games but changed contact to 6 and power at 4. On top of that I use dynamic settings as I got it up to half way between veteran and all star for hitting and half way between all star and hall of fame for pitching. Once I locked them in I set dynamic progress to 0 and let's what I play with

Now I am using All Star +. I think I was just on a bad stretch and I would get frustrated and make things worse by not slowing down.

Hey Coach, how different are your sliders from Fenwaymac's?

I know exactly what you mean and it has me feeling the same way. FENWAY MAC has some good stats and we worked together a lot last year to tweak so I may tweak more towards what he is seeing. The only difference is that he pitches every pitch and I use quick counts which makes a difference. I am not a big fan of pitching every pitch, but I may lean toward that because it looks like the CPU take advantage of quick counts. There are so many times the CPU comes to the plate against me with a 3-2 count for instance and I come to the plate 1-2...

Consistency plays a key role role too so when a pitcher starts to get rocked you better visit the mound fast, because I noticed that as that consistency goes down the more hits and long ball they start to give up. On the flip side the higher it goes the harder they are to hit.

I am going to give pitching every pitch and doing some tweaks over the next two days since I am off. I worked nights all weekend at the hospital so now I have some time to my self after 14 hour shifts!
