    Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

im using the sliders for pitching. i made the adjustment to hall of fame pitching over a month ago and was doing well

but the past 10-15 games ive played i am absolutely getting rocked

i cant throw strikes, every hit is a rocket shot

should i go down to all star or ride it out?

Not slider related but the lineup logic is striking again and it's Houston at the center of it. I just started a 3 game series last night and they had Brian McCann as the starting SS, after they took their swings in the top of the first they immediately subbed him out and put Bregman at SS, not ideal but at least he has that as a secondary position. Tonight I played game 2 of the series and Bregman was starting at 3B, McCann wasn't at SS this time but now it's Avisail Garcia who doesn't play it at all. I'm basically forced to either deal with it or reverse Carlos Correa's injury since apparently Houston doesn't have the intelligence to make a roster move. Hell they could start Altuve at SS and put Tony Kemp at 2B and solve it all but I guess that logic is too advanced.

Yes I know, 30-team control will solve it and yes I know I'm beating a dead horse but had to vent. It's annoying as I don't remember such simple lineup logic being this bad in previous years when I was actually utilizing 30-team control.

Inexcusable and highly disappointing to say the least.

In past years I always keep up with the real calendar, even a little bit ahead. This year for the first time I've had too much "life" get in the way and just finished the month of May in my franchise.. should have a relatively calm rest of the Summer so gonna try to catch up.
I'm in a game right now but I believe I'm 33-17 or something similar? Loving these sliders as always. Only change I made was bumping the base runner speed up one click as players like Brett Gardner and Ellsbury were struggling to leg out doubles down the line or score from second on any base hit to the outfield. Seems perfect for my liking now. GREAT JOB!

                2017 All-Star Break Trade Report

                Yu are the answer!
The Red Sox acquired SP Yu Darvish from the Rangers for SP Jason Groome and SS Marco Hernandez.
16 days ago David Price's potential Cy Young season was ended prematurely when he tore his labrum in a start against the Twins. Steven Wright took his spot in the rotation but has been hit hard in his 2 starts since so the Red Sox knew they needed to make a move fast so they went and got the Japanese Ace to solidify their rotation again as they look towards a World Series run. He joins his fellow countryman Ichiro Suzuki who came over from the Marlins in June.

Sonny from West Coast to East
The Yankees acquired Sonny Gray from the A's for SS Gleyber Torres and SP Albert Abreu.
The Bombers have been in need of a 5th starter since opening day and they didn't get just a back end of the rotation guy as they managed to swing a deal for the highly sought after Sonny Gray in an effort to hang on to hopes of catching the Red Sox or if not a shot at the Wildcard.

The Yankees also acquired 3B Todd Frazier and RP Zach Putnam from the White Sox for CF Blake Rutherford, SP Ian Clarkin and CF Tito Polo.

                Melky returns to Toronto
The Blue Jays acquired LF Melky Cabrera from the White Sox for CF Anthony Alford.
Toronto added another bat to an already formidable lineup as they brought back former Blue Jay and 2017 All Star starter Melky Cabrera. He partners up with Pillar and Bautista in the outfield and means Ezequiel Carrera will become a nice 4th OF option off the bench.

The Blue Jays also acquired Pat Neshek from the Phillies for SP Jeremy Gabryszwski.

                K-Rod is back!
The Angels acquired CP Francisco Rodriguez from the Tigers for CF Jahmai Jones.
Another man making a return to familiar surroundings is K-Rod. The Angels needed a closer as the Cam Bedrosian experiment has failed miserably (7.58 ERA with 7 blown saves in 23 opportunities). Angels fans will have fond memories of K-Rod's previous 6 years in Angel Stadium, in particular his historic 2008 season where he set the single season saves record of 62. He may not be the same pitcher today but he's had a couple nice years in Milwaukee and Detroit most recently and everyone in Anaheim will be hoping he can recapture some of his magic from those early years to help push the Angels towards the Postseason.

                Mariners making a relay team?
The Mariners acquired CF Billy Hamilton from the Reds for RF Kyle Lewis and SP Dylan Unsworth.
Speed kills or so they say and they must be hoping it also wins in Seattle. Billy Hamilton joins Jarrod Dyson and Leonys Martin in what might be the fastest outfield trio in the major league history. There may not be many balls falling on the outfield grass in Safeco Field in the near future. The Mariners will now hope to run away from the Astros in the battle for the AL West crown (pun intended).

The Nationals acquired RP's Carter Capps and Kevin Quackenbush from the Padres for CF Brian Goodwin, RF Juan Soto and SS Wilmer Difo. (I liked this deal from your franchise Armor, and it made sense to make it in mine too lol).

The Mets acquired 1B Mike Napoli from the Rangers for SS Milton Ramos and RP Jason Hursh.

The Cubs acquired CF Lorenzo Cain from the Royals for LF Eloy Jimenez and SP Oscar de la Cruz.
The Cubs also acquired RP Glen Perkins from the Twins for SP Ryan Williams.

Rockies get veteran batterymates from Atlanta
The Rockies acquired C Kurt Suzuki and SP Jaime Garcia from the Braves for SP Antonio Senzatela and 3B Ryan McMahon.
In a deal which may have gone a little under the radar with all the action taking place around the league, the Rockies managed to 'kill 2 birds with one stone' as they swung a deal with the Braves for Kurt Suzuki and Jaime Garcia. Both players bring a welcome veteran presence to the pitching side of things in Colorado and it'll be interesting in particular to see how Garcia adjusts to pitching in the infamous Coors Field air. He's been having a very nice 2017 so far with a 7-2 record, 2.48 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.

One more potential deal rumoured to be close involves the Houston Astros who are believed to be talking to the Chicago White Sox about a possible trade to acquire SP Jose Quintana.

I hope you enjoy this Armor inspired trade report from my Astros 30 Team control franchise. The second half of the season should be fun to follow the storylines.

                  Outstanding Trade Report Jon!!!!

This is what I am talking about. 30 team control and your imagination is all you need to run a robust multi year franchise that you will become attached too and move from year to year on future iterations of The Show.

                  Awesome write up my man.

Thanks Armor as you can probably tell it took me a little while but I'm glad it turned out well and like you've said before "you make the storylines" and writing this up has made me even more excited to play through the rest of this season

Restarted my Phillies franchise. I wanted to play with updated rosters from last week. Primarily to get one of our top prospects LF Nick Williams.

I'm just about last in every category in the league lol. And it's because this game is so true to teams and player ratings! I'm actually having a blast. And now it feels super good when I do get an extra base hit. Or HR. Because it don't happen much with my roster.

And just to make sure I didn't have to tinker with sliders(raising my hitting lol) because of my skill level. I played some games with top level teams, and had outstanding success. Hum contact-7 is the only change I've made to your sliders. And it seems perfect for me.

Can you guys give me some pointers using Directional hitting? Since the latest updates my bats are DEAD. I mean below the Mendoza line type dead. I have "good," timing consistently but am not getting any results. Constant pop up on the infield and weak ground balls. I have jumped back and forth a couple times to Zone hitting (which is the interface I used for years) but it's almost too easy and I never strike out. I really want to use Directional because it takes the players attributes into account more but I'm quite literally to the point where I'm not having any fun whatsoever playing this game.

This is a drastic change from earlier updates. I used Directional for the entirety of the 2017 season and mashed the ball. I led the Majors in home runs. Schwarber had 56, Rizzo had 51, and Bryant had 42. But since the 1.10 update I'm 18th in the league in home runs and last in in doubles. I just can't get any hits and I score very few runs.

Again, I'm not new to The Show. I've played it since 2008 and before that I pretty much played every baseball game there has been since the late 80's. I say that just to emphasize the point that I'm not bad at baseball games.

But watching my highly rated players like Bryant, Rizzo, and Schwarber CONSISTENTLY make poor contact on the ball when I have "good," timing is about to drive me absolutely insane.

I really need some help with my offense. I've read through a lot of the Directional hitting thread on the main page. Part of me thinks that just maybe I'm in some kind of extended slump. But often times I almost feel like the game is predetermined using Directional hitting and my input has no influence whatsoever.

Are knuckleball pitchers just control Masters in this game? I'm playing against the Braves and RA Dickey has thrown 51 strikes and only 7 balls thru 5 innings.

Gagnon, you really need to turn up your solid hits slider. My playtesting has shown solid hits to only effect good inputs.

I play with it at 6 now but I played with it at 10 when I first converted from center swinging zone to directional. Even at 10 there was still the odd time that I would perfectly time a fastball right down the middle with a super-star for a weak popup, but it was a rarity. I'd still get weak choppers and popups, but usually on balls I shouldn't have been swinging at.

Trust me, if you want to feel more in control of your at bats, solid hits slider is the way to go. It's a big part of the reason why I was able to make the guide. When you get more positive results on good inputs, it's a lot easier to see the tendencies and patterns.

Honestly the best advice I can give other then it being just a natural slump would be to raise solid hits by 1 click and see how that plays. If your issue is weak contact constantly then solid hits should do the trick but I would avoid messing with contact as you might see a drastic increase in BABIP. I'm actually on HOF with contact at default as well as power and having zero issues hitting but I've also raised the solid hits slider to get more consistent slid contact.

Yes, you basically have to lower all the CPU pitching sliders as knuckleballers like Wright in Boston or Dickey in Atlanta will just beat up the zone all game long and then raise it back to where you had it once they are taken out of the game.

Man, I don't know how you guys do it. I've always used Armour's sliders (don't buy the game until Armour posts his slider set), and they produce a great game experience for me.

My problem - I keep finding excuses to start my franchise over. I've played this game for years and have never played more than 30 games of a season. I play a game a few games and my favourite player is 0-10, so start over. Or I lose the first 3 games of the season so start over. Swing at a really bad pitch and start over. I win a game too easy and start over. How do you guys get through the urges to start over?

To those of you that can actually play a whole season you certainly have my respect and admiration. I'm starting my Yankee franchise over again tonight. Trying to find the strength to play the whole season!! I'm sick of playing the Rays!!!
