I have no clue. But I have had zero issues with assisted (manual) baser running.

Ive tried most of the sets this year and i really enjoy this one.

Not to say any set is better than the next, to each his own. This one just feels the best for how i play. Great job and great game this year. I was hesitant to buy mlb the show 17 because last year i didnt play it as much but im glad i did.

This years game plays great. Really enjoying it and i love how i can just plug in a slider set and go, no "slideritist" like Madden

            Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

I plugged in the QM set last night in my Cards franchise. Really liked what I saw. In QM, I do zero pitching, but I jump into the game to hit whenever I get a runner on base. Saw some good pop and hit variety in game 1, but some of that went away in the next 4 games I played....turned into either a fly out or a weaker ground ball. However, the at bats felt alot more organic which was awesome. Gonna play about 20-30 games before I make any tweaks to user hitting. Only tweak I made was bumping injuries to 4. As soon as I put in the sliders, I had 4 injuries in two games(across the whole organization) that required 60 day DL stints. Gonna leave it at 4 and see what happens.

Armor, question...so you don't let the AI control the base running completely? I believe that is where people are experiencing the unresponsive runner...

in Assisted manual base running how "hands on" must one be? I've tried complete manual but always have the wrong guy advancing, or retreating to a base and it's a mess...I'm 49...the more button input, the worse I am getting sadly...lol

Can't wait for your slider adjustments...11-5 in my Mets Franchise and enjoying your work completely

              Thanks

There was an issue with base running last year that was due to user input. Make sure your fingers are not touching the bumpers on top of the controller because any touch will cause base running to be changed to manual. People don't realize they're doing this but it was happening to me when I was pressing the buttons to hit. I have changed my hand position and I have had no issues with auto or assist base running. Sounds ridiculous I know but this is the issue.

There are only two base running control settings

Auto - let the CPu do all of it and step in whenever you want

Assisted - You control when runners take an extra base, steal, slide (if you don't initiate the slide the CPU will determine the best one for you based on situation), tag up, freeze, go back, advance all, return all, control a particular base runner etc.

I play with Assisted and control all my base running decisions. I have not had any issues at all with this method on any version of this game. It is really easy once you get the hang of how to point the stick at the runner you want (they start to flash on the mini diamond in the top right corner) and press the base you them to advance to or return too. They greatly improved base running controls on the last two versions of the game. It's really easy IMO.

I second this. Happens to me on occasion because I hit the trigger I think and my guys will return to the bag(s) instead of advancing. Had this happen in my last game. 1st and 2nd. None out. Blooper base hit but my guys returned to their bags. Force out when fielder threw to second. This on auto base running. I only see it rarely. This is the second time in about 30 games.

I used to use auto BR as well, but did the tutorial in 17. Manuel is easy when you get used to it.

Ok folks, I am really excited (and proud as this was developed through extensive testing with over 100 franchise games played between myself and my buddy JoshC1977 as well as Marino) to unveil and bring you our final slider update (unless patch 1.05 does something drastic which I doubt it will).

                            Version 4.0 is officially Gold

This set I feel will give you the most balanced gameplay employing the simulation style settings and approach I use to this incredible game.

So here are the changes that were made below and some rationale.

                            Human Hitting:

Raise Power to Default 5 - Power was tuned on this last update as well as solid hits. This just locks in the correct balance I had pre patch.

                            CPU Pitching:

Raise CPU Hook to Default 5 - I know this will be the topic of discussion LOL but I am final on this one with 100% confidence. After some extensive testing, playing every pitch, every AB the CPU SP logic is quite sound and tuned as well as it was in previous games. That is my intensely tested opinion as well as Marino and JoshC1977. We have seen excellent pulls, that made 100% sense. Will you get an occasional starter pull like I did with Sale tossing a 2 hit shutout (he was pull to start the 9th) that you can second guess? Of course you will....that is the essence of baseball. Will I hit a solo HR off the RP every time that move is made? I highly doubt it. Will that move result in me winning the game because of it every time? I highly doubt it. When you play every game, every pitch you are going to experience a rich and rewarding franchise with this game. That's how I play. I develop these for myself. I share them with you. What you do from that point on?? That's for you to decide. But I have been playing this game for a very long time and I can say I have seen nothing too different from the last few games in starting pitching logic, in fact it is better this year. Why?

Last night I faced Bundy from the Orioles. He last 4.1 yielded 4ER, 4BB 5 H.....absolutely should be pulled. Gallardo was brought in....went 2 innings. and then knowing I had 2 lefties coming up....he was pulled for a lefty.

Now with Hook at 2.....he was being left in. And IMO after getting a sample of over 100 franchise games.....Hook below default was effecting bullpen decisions greatly. Starters go as long as they should at default playing full counts.

Forget QC's. I am not using it, I am not testing it, I will not discuss it. It is an "under the hood" issue this year because of the new pitching logic that has been added to the game this year. But look around the league today and check box scores everyday. 3rd, 4th and 5th starters are typically going 5-6 IP on average. Also note the starter fatigue level and fatigue ratings. I am getting fantastic results and have been since release. And I have given that consistent message.....because it is the god's honest truth. I have streamed dozens upon dozens of games and everyone tuning in has seen it.

Simulation stats BTW are fantastic this year. I check all the box scores of every game and the pitching stats look amazing.

I have to stress my results have been fantastic and games play as close to real life as ever.

So don't fight it!!! If you decide you want to keep it at 2.....by all means, but know this. The bullpen logic will not be nearly as sharp. At default hook post patch things are humming.

Now on the quick manage set....I left it at 7 because I am seeing wonky logic sometimes on the simulated games and quick management games at default. So on our sim/QM set it is staying at 2. What I suggest is when you enter a Quick Manage game simply move the slider back up to 5. Just remember to reset it back to 2 when you are done (I know...PITA, but worth the effort).

                            On to the rest.....

                            Fielding Errors Infield
                            Fielding Errors Outfield
                            Throwing Errors Infield
                            Throwing Errors Outfield

                            All raised to 6

Yep......just one click up and things are really balanced now. Last night I had a 4-6-3 turn and DiDi did his Jeter jump throw and pulled Bird off the bag....I was like crap (but inside was like YEAH! It works!!) First time I saw that. Errors will happen and now you will get a better simulation of errors. At default they were happening, but not as much as I wanted. Also you can go higher.....but I caution you on that. It can get wonky and little league like IMO and throw off the balance of the game over the course of a 162 game season. But this change is a great one.

Baserunner Steal Ability - raise to 7

This one is my favorite tweak. So let's talk about SB's. This year it is awesome. Why? Because you have to use baseball IQ to get it done and do it more consistently with real base stealers. If you try to steal with guys with high speed but lower base stealing ratings on any count, any pitch vs a good catcher....you are a dead man walking. And forget trying to steal with below 75 speed guys.....lol. It is futile. As it should be. It will not be easy and SB numbers around the league look amazing folks.

However I was not seeing the balance I wanted. By bumping up this slider the cat and mouse game is fully in play, but the penalty for several throws over to first, or several attempted steals on foul balls is less severe for true base swipers and it does open up the running game a little more for those of you who understand the science of stealing bases.

Base Stealing Frequency - Bump up to 6 - I want the CPU to be more aggressive as well with their speed guys, and keep me on my toes checking runners (remember I play with no runner windows which is amazing BTW and you should just do it!!!). They will send guys sometimes that will leave you going huh? Remember...in the end...it is a video game.

And that's it folks. Version 4.0 is official and this is the best I have for you. Enjoy this great game folks. Patch 1.04 was awesome. It really balanced hitting for the better. The variety is as good as pre patch, the power is there, it is all there. They do have another update in the works to fix some stuff they could not get too on 1.04 and also fix that bat sound issue (thank you SDS). BTW, without headphones (I use Sony Golds with the audio app for MLBTS17) it is not nearly as noticeable. But with them on.....anyway. It will be fixed.

Also note the starer fatigue level and rating.

I have to stress my results have been fantastic and games play as close to real life as ever.

So don't fight it!!! If you decide you want to keep it at 7.....by all means, but know this. The bullpen logic will not be nearly as sharp. At default hook post patch things are humming.

Now on the quick manage set....I left it at 7 because I am seeing wonky logic sometimes on the simulated games and quick management games at default. So on our sim/QM set it is staying at 7.

If you try to steal with guys with high speed but lower cbase stealing ratings on any count, any pitch vs a good catcher....you are a dead man walking. And forget trying to steal with below 75 speed guys.....lol. It is futile. As it should be.

However I was not seeing the balance I wanted. By bumping up this slider the cat and mouse game is fully in play, but the penalty for several throws over to first, or several attempted steals on foul balls is less severe for true base swipers and it does open up the running game a little more for those of you who understand the science of stealing bases.

Base Stealing Frequency - Bump up to 6 - I want the CPu to be more aggressive as well with their speed guys, and keep me on my toes checking runners (remember I play with no runner windows which is amazing BTW and you should just do it!!!)

Just in time for the weekend. I'll be giving these a go.
