Re: BYU 14's "Old Guy" quick count sliders for The Show 17

I have tried an experiment after the last patch based on feedback in the main thread as well as the default thread here and tried something different that has been a pleasant surprise.

I went and changed everything back to default, all-star pitching and veteran hitting, then made the following tweaks.

Hitting - Changed human timing to 2 and CPU consistency to 3. Did this only because the timing window is bigger on veteran, and so reduced it to add some challenge. CPU consistency on 5 also gets you too many grooved pitches, where now they miss their spots and don't leave as much over the plate.

Only other changes were wind to 4 to reduce fly ball distance and injuries to 6.

I finished my 2017 Yankee franchise and likes what I was seeing and I will be starting the 2018 season with these and tracking stats so I get a better view from that piece. But I am liking it so far and I will post some stats later. HR have not been crazy and errors seem to be back in line, without having to tweak that slider. I want a bigger sample obviously, but this last patch seems to have had an effect on gameplay at mostly default. (And when you think about it, timing at 2 on veteran is probably pretty much equivalent to timing at default on all-star)

Just though this was interesting, though I still need to see more data. I almost wish they would stop with the patches now

Even baserunner and fielder speed at default?

Yessir, actually had a couple guys get thrown out because they seem to gamble more and the arm strength is also at 5. I have been really surprised. I have game 4 of the new season to finish and I will post some stats.

I have been tweaking stuff to try to get a consistent .300 BABIP for me and the CPU. Hopefully this will be it.

I wonder sometimes how much moving too many sliders around affects other things. Maybe we overthink it sometimes. Anyway, here are the first 5 games of 2018. Record 3-2

            Boston 6-12-0 HR-1, BB-4, K-8
            Yankees 2-6-0 BB-3, K-14
No extra base hits for me going against Sale

            Boston 3-6-1 2B-1, HR-1, BB-4, K-5
            Yankees 12-16-1 2B-1, HR-4, BB-0, K-2
Bats were on fire and Price was leaving breaking pitches up left and right

            Boston 1-7-0 2B-2, BB-4, K-4
            Yankees 4-10-0 2B-3, HR-1, BB-0, K-9

            Tampa Bay 4-7-1 2B-1, HR-1 BB-3, K-9
            Yankees 2-7-0 3B-1, HR-1, BB-6, K-10
10 men left on base and 2 double plays

            Tampa Bay 2-6-1 2B-2, HR-1 BB-3, K-5
            Yankees 9-14-0 2B-2, HR-3, BB-1, K-6
Two of the HR were from Judge, a wall scrapper and a monster shot. The 3rd was from Didi, who wrapped it just inside the foul pole.

I just finished my Pirates season. Lost in the playoff game to the Giants. Looking for a new team to start over with. I played a exhibition game with the Red Sox and played against Seattle. I did start a Astros series this past weekend and opened the season against Seattle and they hit me hard so I was wanting to try and play them again using the Red Sox. I used the new sliders and Beteran hitting and All Star pitching. I think I like it. I pitched Pomeranz cause I wanted a middle of the road pitcher. He didn't do that good.

              Mariners 9 12 0
              Red Sox 3 8 0

              Mariners: 3 2B, 1 HR, 6 K
              Red Sox: 3 2B, 1 HR, 5 K

It was a 1-1 game going to the 5th inning and the wheels fell off for Pomeranz. Gave up 5 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks that inning to make it a 6-1 game. And then gave up 3 more runs in the 6th on 3 hits and a walk to make it 9-1. I think it's a good hit variety.

Since you said you were getting good animations with infield errors at 10, are you losing that now?

My 2nd game I played as the Red Sox again and played the Yankees. I wanted to try a pitchers duel so I did Tanaka vs Sale. Tanaka only lasted 1/3 of a inning before he got hit with a come backer. They brought in Bryan Mitchell who pitched pretty good in relief going 4.2 IP giving up 1 run on 5 hits. In the 3rd inning I scored after a double and a RBI ground out. The Yankees tied it with a Judge HR in the 4th. The Yankees brought in Shreve in the 7th who gave up 4 runs including a 2 run HR by Betts who went 4-4 in this game. Sale pitched really good going 7 IP giving up 1 run on 4 hits striking out 8.

                  Yankees 1 5 0
                  Red Sox 5 11 0

                  Yankees: 1 HR, 12 K
                  Red Sox: 4 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 6 K

I think I'm going to start my Red Sox franchise playing these sliders.

                    Game 1
Pirates 0-0 vs Red Sox 0-0
Gerritt Cole (0-0) vs Chris Sale (0-0)

Wow what an exciting game. Betts got the Red Sox on the board early with a 3 run HR in the 1st inning. Single runs in the 3rd and 5th made it a 5-0 lead with Sale cruising what looked like a easy Red Sox win. In the 6th he gave up 2 singles followed by a McCutchen 3 run HR to make it 5-3. He would finish his night going 6 IP giving up 3 runs. Barnes came in to pitch the 7th and gave up a run on a leadoff single, error throw on a pick off followed by a single to make it 5-4. Pirates would tie it in the 8th off of Carson Smith on a single and double but he would get out of it stranding the go ahead run on 2nd. The Pirates would take
A 6-5 lead in the 9th on a walk and a double by Kang. Going to the 9th the Red Sox would load the bases with 1 out before Ramirez would hit a sac fly to tie it. With runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 out Bradley hit a broken bat game winning infield single to win it 7-6.

                    Pirates 6 11 0
                    Red Sox 7 14

                    Pirates: 3 2B, 1 HR, 5 BB, 8 K
                    Red Sox: 5 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 6 K

                    • Betts went 2 for 4 with a HR and double with 4 RBI
                    • McCutchen went 3 for 4 with a HR and double with 3 RBI
                    • Sale would go 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K in his Red Sox debut
                    • Cole wasn't sharp going 4 IP, 9 H, 5 ER.
                    • The Red Sox would take on the Pirates in game 2 of the series with David Price on the mound.

Not getting some of the bobbles, but surprisingly it is almost like this reset everything and it is definitely better than it was when multiple sliders were tweaked.

Yessir, and it makes a difference against pitchers that have good off speed pitches like Sale.

I am definitely liking the way things are looking as well with these minor tweaks. I don't think I will be installing anymore patches for fear of screwing it up.

We are trying and liking the default sliders except for User Timing at 2, CPU Consistency at 3, Wind at 4, and Injuries at 6.
