Lately I’ve been considering bumping my power down one click (to 4) and moving my contact up to 6. That seems like it would give me the result I’m looking for. Slightly fewer home runs but more base hits.

Interesting. With my Jays franchise ( as of July 3rd now ), I’m leading the Major leagues with HR’s but I’m last with team batting average.

It’s in line with your changes !!!

I don't mind leading the league in home runs, especially with the Cubs. As long as it falls within my, "realm of believability." Could the Cubs lead the Major in home runs? Sure. Could Schwarber hit 63 home runs? Sure. But could Schwarber hit 63, Bryant hit 55, Rizzo hit 50, and Contreras hit 45.... well, probably not. That's not the case with my franchise, I'm just saying that I can, to some degree live with my home run totals. But if I could just tune them a little more it would be perfect. A few less home runs, and a few more base hits and everything is as close to perfect as it can get.

I'd just worried about changing power because I don't want to lose too many home runs and also, I hover around 20th in the league in doubles and the power slider says it affects extra base hits to a lesser degree.

I keep telling myself that I'll just, "get better," at directional hitting and at my timing, but like I've said I get fairly consistent, "good," timing. I just think the ratio of hits to outs when there's, "good," timing on Hall of Fame with the settings here is a little off.

I did. And I beat the Cardinals 14-0. My hitting was ridiculous. I played three games with it there. Small sample size, I know, maybe I should give it more time. I already have my solid hits at 5, I have all year.

The only difference from Armor's sliders are that I have both human and CPU solid hits at 5. Do you think timing at 6 and solid hits at 5 would be too much? Do I need to move solid hits to 4 and timing to 6?

I'm in the same boat as you and have been following the recent discussions on here so am going to give timing at 6 with solids at 5 a go. I so wondered about contact 6 power 4 but haven't tried it.

A few seasons in to my chise so the teams are no longer representative, but according to the rankings (which you can see when on the standings screen) I'm 1st in the league in contact and 10th in power. But on stats, I'm 4th in home runs and 19th in batting average. So I would also like more hits and fewer home runs.

Freeman is the perfect example he is on a. 295, .366, .630 line...he basically only hits homeruns or weak pop ups...with the occasional 105mph line drive straight to the shifted outfield! And I think he is on pace for 50 home runs, with Daniel Murphy and Mike Moustakas on pace for 40+ (though moose is hitting .196!)

I'm going to give timing more...time! I got 9 hits in my first game with timing 6, scored 3 runs, didn't hit a home run, so I can live with that, give it more time. You played 70+ games with one set, don't give up after 3...

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

I've begun collecting actual data on, "good," timed swings and I know it's only one game, but I'll keep up with it for 10-15 games or so. But the one game I just had proves to me the problem I have.

There's just not enough reward for, "good," timing. Meaning, there just are not enough hits when the pitch it timed perfectly.

Keep in mind that (at least I don't know how) there is no way to get feedback on swings that end the inning and I know for sure that I had at least two, "good," timed swings that ended innings in the game I just played. So those are not included.

I had a total of 12 "good," timed swings. And of those only three were for hits. I had four outs and five times my batters missed the ball entirely.

Through 30 games (10-20 record) with some minor slider modifications to this set, the White Sox team averages are:

                  .238 BA
                  .312 OBP
                  .466 SLG
                  .779 OPS
                  .298 BABIP
                  32.94 AB/HR
                  23.91 K%
                  8.41 BB%

That is literally the closest I have ever gotten in a Show game to producing almost spot on results with the real life Sox. Issuing walks are still a problem and I'm not giving up enough HR's to the computer, but the game is playing really realistic for the most part.

I completely agree that the game plays very realistic for the most part. It's so close to perfect. And I agree that issuing walk is always an issue. But it's the best it's ever been. I always lead the league in fewest walks issued, but it falls within my, "realm of believability."

Hey Armor - maybe just try it in "Play Now" mode. I have not veered off of your sliders (they're "perfect"), but I have been messing around with only pitch speeds, just to see if I can't "unlock" something from a hitting mechanic standpoint. I have really liked my timing/results increasing Off-Speed slider to 10 and increasing Fast Ball Ball speed to 6. Would like to hear your opinion IF you play a couple of innings with it.

Truly a personal slider decision. Pitch speeds are the sliders that you determine what is right “for you”.

Lineup and Stats Through July 31 Trade Deadline:

                            Hicks .278/8/36
                            Judge .293/34/81
                            Sanchez .340/39/91
                            Stanton .322/49/106
                            Gregorius .276/16/62
                            Torres .291/13/34 (54G 189AB)
                            Walker .274/12/48
                            Andujar .232/11/32 (57G 203AB)
                            Gardner .230/13/41

Much like real life, Gardner has been pretty horrific and was bumped to the 9 hole with Hicks having a solid year. I've experimented with Judge and Torres in the leadoff spot once or twice each. Torres, maybe.. but I don't like Judge taking 1/4 of his at bats with guaranteed no runners on base. Andújar's line doesn't look great, but he was hitting well under .200 for a while but I ran with him and he's hitting over .300 over the last 10. Stanton's and Sanchez' seasons were looking ridiculous.. they still somewhat are, but both have cooled down considerably in the month of July. Gary was hitting over .400 on the year at some point in June, and Stanton was around .350 and both were on pace for over 60 home runs on the year. Stanton still has a chance, but I doubt Gary will get even 50. I would consider it realistic for Stanton to finish in the mid-high 50's and Gary and Judge both in the 40's. It's a lot for sure, but it could technically happen.

On the pitching side, Severino has been consistently average all year, rather than having streaks of dominance and then a cold spell. His ERA sits at 3.95. Tanaka spent a considerable amount of time on the DL, but took a no-hitter into the 9th in his first game back until allowing a one out homer to Rasmus of Baltimore. His ERA is 3.07. Other starter ERA's:
                            Gray: 3.12
                            Montgomery: 3.21
                            Sabathia: 3.69
No one is really dominating, but no one is sucking either. Gray and Montgomery were both on rolls through about May or mid-June, but have regressed since.

Chapman has been solid, with an ERA under 2.00 until recent struggles, and now sits at 2.45. He's converted 29 of 33. Robertson has been inconsistent and streaky, sitting at 3.86 currently. Dellin Betances had been laughably horrific all year, just consistently bad for whatever reason. His ERA was 6.95 when I traded him about a week ago. Kahnle has been great and has evolved into my go to 8th inning man. ERA is 2.37. Green has been inconsistent as well, dominating at times and struggling at others. ERA is 4.25. I was able to mimic real life and actually acquired Zach Britton from Baltimore. His ERA is 3.54 on the year but has only made one or two scoreless appearances for us so far. In addition, I was able to acquire Kirby Yates around the deadline and he was having a great year but has struggled in pinstripes so far. ERA is 2.51 but was much lower when I acquired him. The rest of the bullpen has essentially been a AAA revolving door between Holder, Cole, Cessa, German.

**EDIT: Just realized I made no mention of Greg Bird. He was having a good year through May 18th (.284, 13HR) and went down with a lengthy injury ( I forget what the injury was). He made his return on the first game after the All-Star Break, July 20, and lasted all of about a week until he goes down on July 27 with a broken leg. Man is this game realistic.. lol. He's out 2-3 months which will certainly put him out through the regular season and I would doubt he comes back for the playoffs, so looks like another lost season for the Birdman.

I can’t wait to share my year end stats with you. We are in the home stretch facing Boston right now in a critical series in NY as they sit 2.5 back.

I will start streaming the September drive for October and of course the post season.

It has been an awesome Year 2.

Once we are done with year two we will begin our Miami Marlins Hybrid V3 rebuild and a classic season TBD.

This slider set and this game, can't put it down

                                Maybe FIFA would help
