Have you tried much Legend? All I want to have are realistic stats and right now more than half of my lineup is batting above .300 My pitching is also out of control.

I just don’t understand what I’m doing wrong with hitting. I switch back and forth between directional and zone from time to time but on HOF my team average hovers around .250. Most of my hitters are around .240 amd I have a few around .260. So overall, not too bad but I lack in doubles big time. And lately have had an absent offense. Are you using directional on HOF? If so how are you hitting so well?

My question consistently is, how are you guys driving the ball into the gaps for extra base hits? Are you all pressing up and in to try to pull the ball? Do you sit on pitches or make adjustments when you see the ball. I’ve asked these questions before yet I never really get answers that prove to me one way is better.

Honestly the biggest change for me was moving to a different camera. I moved to MLB the show 16 camera and its made a huge difference in my offensive output. Years ago I created a custom camera recommended by GMO. It was a great find. My offensive production soared (especially OBP). Turns out, MLB the show 16 camera is/was his original camera. Pretty cool.

I also use swing influence. Different directions based on my hitter type, count, situation, etc. I used it on every swing. I play directional HOF.

Is there a key to hitting pitches that are not in the middle of the zone. One issue I seem to have noticed in my 50 million games played on The Show is that most hard hit balls are down the heart of the plate. I realize that’s the case in real life often, but the ratio just seems off. I’d like to see more balls on the black, that are timed well, hit hard.

I use directional hitting on probably 90% of my swings. With power hitters I’m usually trying to pull the ball, unless they have good power the other way, while with good contact guys I’ll either pull or go opposite field depending on the situation. I hit a walk off 3 run homer to the opposite field with Stanton earlier today. I had first and second with no outs and I was pushing the right stick to the right trying to hit the ball the other way, either trying to hit the gap or if he made an out to move the runners over. I ended up hitting it into the Yankees bullpen for the win. Directional hitting is very useful. I find when I struggle is when I’m not aiming.

Armour, I use your sliders on all-Star but with Zone/Meter. Hitting is perfectly fine. However Pitching gets a little easy now so I tried HOF for some games and got absolutely toastes by the CPU. What could I do to get a bit more of a Challenge but not as much as on HOF.

Very hard for me to answer that. I have not used nor tested meter pitching since MLB 2009. I simply don't use the interface.

If I had to guess control would be the slider I would go too first, but better to ask a slider maker who uses meter pitching.

Hey, I have never used any BUT meter pitching. Armor is right, I would say control is the best bet to help avoid missed locations until you get used to hitting the line on HOF. As you move up levels it is also important to adapt your strategy to pitch to the corners far more often as well as making an effort to really mix up your pitches. Gotta keep the CPU on its toes more to survive. Hope this helps!

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

This has been a super weird year for me with this game. I've always been an average player when it comes to hitting but for reasons I can't explain I'm having a monster year I guess. Not sure if I magically got really good at this game or if something is wrong.

I'm using these exact sliders (have used for years) and through July 6th I'm something like 63-22 with Giancarlo Stanton hitting above .340 with 47 home runs (ON JULY 7), Gary Sanchez above .340 with 38 homers, Aaron Judge 30 homers and above .300.

I have literally tried to be worse for stats to even out and I can't do it. One thing I've been doing just for the sake of stats is not swinging with Giancarlo or Gary until they have 2 strikes, and then using only contact swing. But I'm hitting bombs with Giancarlo aiming down with a contact swing - no joke. I have played around with aiming the left stick all year to try and see what gives me more normal results. I've gone from using no stick to all stick to some stick, aiming up, down, pulling, pushing.. tried it all with each batter individually to find a strategy that works and any way I try it I just end up being some kind of offensive monster. I'm on pace to absolutely shatter the season record for team home runs, and maybe even the individual home run record with Giancarlo.

I can't even explain it, as just as recently as 17 I was using the HYBRID (Veteran) set of these sliders during a cold stretch. I can't even chalk this up to a hot streak at this point because it's been literally from Opening Day to July 6.

The only thing I could think of is to move up to Legend for a few (in game) weeks and see if theres a difference. But one thing I worry with about this is the fact that Gardner is hitting .235, Andujar .209, Didi and Hicks are having similar years offensively - with only a handful of home runs (less than 20 combined) with very middle of the pack batting averages (.250s). So I would hate for these guys to be negatively affected in ways they can't afford if I switch to Legend. Maybe bump down the ratings of Stanton, Sanchez, Judge?

Pitching has been fairly normal and realistic to this point.

Thoughts??? Suggestions??? Please help me because this level of unrealistic stats is driving me nuts!!

I tried 2 games on HOF yesterday in my Jays franchise. I held the Phillies and the Angels to 4 and 2 runs on 10/12 hits. I actually liked it this time. Maybe just have to accept the challenge and get better at pitching.
This is my first MLB The Show so my learning curve is still steep. I got a lot better at hitting - I think now pitching has to become my priority.

For those of you who hit well using directional, when you “pull,” with a power hitter, or try to go the opposite way with a contact guy, are you guys just pressing left or right on the analog stick? Are you ever pressing up and in (as in trying to hit the ball in the gap)? What about just straight up? I’ve tried, and tried, and tried to use directional because I, like Armor, want player ratings to play a bigger part in outcomes. But the amount of, “good,” timing I have on balls in the zone that result in infield pop ups or pop ups to the catcher makes me want to ram my face through a wall.

I only press up if I’m trying to hit a fly ball and down for a grounder depending on the situation. In the game I just finished I had a runner on first with no outs and Austin Romine at the plate. I aimed down and to the right hoping to hit the ball in the hole between first and second. I actually was a little late on my swing and hit a hard grounder right off the first base bag for a single sending the runner to third. I hit more home runs and balls in the gaps just by pressing either left or right.

I am absolutely raking with Judge, Stanton, Sanchez and Bird in my Year 2 Yankees chise carried over from MLB 17.

I am going with it. I know I will hit a cold spell.....in fact I have with Judge. He is at 42HR's. Sanchez at 32 and Bird at 36. Stanton is at 25.

Greatest year I have ever had hitting on this game and loving every minute of it.

The lineup is deadly. But I know....oh I know we will go cold at some point like we always do.

In the meantime my chase for 74 with Judge rages on. Enjoy the great times is my advice and don't get too crazy with statitis.

I am a baseball freak.....but I don't get paralysis my analysis when it comes to stats until I see a full season play out.

If things look crazy by season end....I may chalk it up to just one of those magical years.

I can tell you in my other franchises (Matheny Manifesto Cardinals Fantasy Chise Year 3, 1987 Yankees Year 3) the hitting is nothing like this in terms of a power party.

It is this particular lineup I have with the Yankees in year 2 that is just killing it.

                          Enjoy it.

My next franchise will be a Marlins Rebuild using the Hybrid V2 post trade deadline version.....and I can assure you....I will suck. That team is brutal and needs a total face-lift. Looking forward to the misery.

I’m hitting well with those guys at the moment also. Stanton especially. He hit walkoff homers in 2 of 3 games, then hit a 467’ grand slam in my last game. He’s tied for 3rd in the AL with Sanchez with 20 homers (Stanton is also second in RBIs with 57) and Judge leads the league with 23. Still trying to get the non-power hitters going though. Gardner has finally broke .200, Didi is slowly climbing as he’s been hot the last 3 games raising his average to .220. Neil Walker has been hot too since taking over as the every day second baseman now that Torres is on the DL and Bird is back at first after an early season DL stint. Bird just hit 5 homers in the 3 game series against the NY Mess.

I actually was a little late on my swing and hit a hard grounder right off the first base bag for a single sending the runner to third. I hit more home runs and balls in the gaps just by pressing either left or right.

And you’re hitting on Hall of Fame? Again, my numbers aren’t crazy low, but I have a ton of guys in the .230’s and only a few around .270-.280.

Yes I’m on Hall of Fame. My highest average on the team is Judge who’s around .275, and Sanchez and Stanton hitting around .260. Everyone else is similar to yours, all under .250
