Re: Mike Lowe MLB The Show '18 Sliders

Man am I struggling this year. Used this set all year last year. Cant get an out to save my life on the mound. Seems like everything I throw gets hit. Even when I'm trying to paint the corners. Scared to throw fastballs because they get crushed. Any tips?

I just read your little write up. Nice tweaks. I always combine the two as well. I was curious with the pitching for user with classic. Thanks for the suggestions. They are working well so far. When both were at 0, I wasn't getting Ks. I also had to drop down to HoF, Legend is too much real for me at the moment...

Same here man. I started out 0-7 in my Indians franchise. I’ve made a few adjustments and am starting to find a balance on the pitching side. Not sure of your settings but I switched from meter pitching last year to classic this year. Also I am playing on HOF and plan on staying there unless I start dominating, which I don’t see that happening, lol.

I bumped up both Hum pitcher consistency and control up to 1, because my pitches were all over the place. Like Mike mentioned earlier in the thread, sometimes that gets the pitchers too dialed in so I put max effort on pitches and throw out of the zone to try and get computer to chase so I don’t see everything in the zone and I see a few walks by my pitchers. But even on HOF, if you miss your spot and it drifts over the plate, the CPU will make you pay.

Also another note, if you’re using classic pitching, you gotta find the sweet spot on your pitchers release (right before the vibration). I’ve noticed if I release too early or too late, my pitch usually strays a good bit away from my target. But if you release right before the vibration, the pitch is usually right in the vicinity of where I was trying to locate the pitch. This adds a fun wrinkle of using warmup pitches to learn my pitcher’s release points.

I always struggle a bit with these sliders but that’s why I like them. It gives me a great challenge. I feel like I’m getting my pitching dialed in and if I keep on finding my groove, I’ll probably knock the control and consistency sliders back down to zero and challenge myself with that once again.

On the hitting side, I have been struggling as well. But I always do when starting with these sliders bc I don’t work the count and try to jump on the first few pitches. I’ve finally learned to take the first pitch and be more patient at the plate and try to work the pitcher late into the count. I’ve been sticking to all these changes mentioned above and have worked my record up to 5-9 and I’m currently playing a game where I jumped on Jaime Garcia and the Blue Jays in the first inning to score 7 runs! Obviously I’m not seeing this type of output every game but I’m starting to see more variety in my games and it is making for an interesting franchise so far.

Played 2 games recently and lost 7-0 and then won 2-1. Just stick with it.

The Yankees finally won the first serie of the season. The Blue Jays came hot during the 3rd game, hitting 5 HR (!) to win the match 8-6 but the next day, New York get his revenge and won 4-1.

Yankees vs Blue Jays (Score : 5-8)

            Yankees : 30 AB, 7 H, 1 HR, 4 BB, 5 SO, 1 2B, 3 GIDP - BABIP : 0.250
            Blue Jays : 34 AB, 8 H, 5 HR, 2 BB, 9 SO - BABIP : 0.150

Yankees vs Blue Jays (Score : 4-1)

            Yankees : 32 AB, 8 H, 1 HR, 6 BB, 15 SO, 3 2B - BABIP : 0.438
            Blue Jays : 35 AB, 6 H, 3 BB, 10 SO, 1 2B, 1 GIDP - BABIP : 0.240

After 4 games, I noticed that the % of misses + swings for the CPU is very low. There is the batter analysis for the last 2 games :

Me, I have a decent % for this.

What do you think Mike ? Is me who is pitching badly ?

How's it going mike? I'm enjoying your sliders so far with minor adjustments. I was wondering if you had a video tutorial on how to make your custom camera. If not, can you make 1 for us. I really like that camera angle.

This is the best part about this set. You have to stick with it. And you're going to see a challenge and realistic results because of it.

So you're actually looking at this wrong (your screenshots). You need to go to that very last row and click over the "Swings." THEN you add up the total number of misses and Ks for that 21% (ideally).

Your BABIP is high because you either hit the ball or you K. Once you start making more contact--some of which won't always be great--that BABIP will come down.

Your foul ball %s look great.

It's actually just the Show '15 camera which is still an option in Show '18. It's terrific!

I may be figuring wrong too, Mike. So is the below actually the right way? Screen shot #1.....140 Total Pitches, 76 Taken, 64 swung at. 17 missed and srikeouts. 17 divided by 64 leaves 26.5% .....Screen shot #2...128 total pitches, 77 Taken, 51 swung at. 10 misses and strikeouts. 10 divided by 51 leaves an 18.6%....

These two games he provided are in good range of the 21% goal. Am I right or completely off track

Best camera view out there in my humble opinion. Been using that 2015 camera since 2011 ; )

If those swung numbers are indeed correct, then yes, that's correct, and you're right in-line.

What are the average total pitches, avg taken and avg swung per game?

Ok thanks. I was thinking you did some slight tweaks to it. This camera definitely gives me the best strike zone view. It seems it may be the umpire's view from behind the plate. Appreciate your work Mike

Question, sorry if it’s been answered. I see base run speed is at 4, I’m sure naturally that affects steal attempts a tad, right? Or am I wrong here
