I might lower power next season to 4 to see if that makes a difference. I don’t want to test it out in the playoffs.

This is the first time since I can remember playing this game that I have had this close of a division race. Of the times that I have finished a whole season I have always won the division easily. The only time I didn’t I played as the Pirates in last year’s game and I made the wild card but I was way back in the division.

Where is everybody at with the FB/LD/GB%?

While I feel that the CPU is right in line with MLB, HUM (at least mine) is running about 5% low for GB and 5% high for FB.

I guess the question is...do I really care that much about BIP distribution? Well of course I do!

So here is what is going to happen. I am going to drop HUM solid hits one notch for a good sample size of 10+. I am very curious what this does to practically EVERY stat, so I will report it out or you can watch is as it happens on the spreadsheet in post #1

      Wish me luck

Good luck. Look forward to see the results. Do you think it could help with lowering the home run rate by higher tier teams?

It’s a possibility. Shifting away from fly balls in favor of ground balls should take away some of the DEEP fly balls as well. At least on paper that makes sense.

That's typically about where i have been. Usually around 3.5-4% high on FB. Line drives, i am at 20.8 so its perfect.

Looking at my team, most of them are hitting over 44% ground balls. My fly ball heavy guys are the Gallos, Odors, Mazaras, Choos, who i tend to try to get under the ball more often with. I want Gallo to hit fly balls for sure, so i dont want him to change.

Choo and Mazara are ground ball heavy in real life, (47% and 55%) so i have been using them wrong. I want to start trying to get them to lower trajectory, and use hitters counts to try to hit HR (no power swings, just launch angle and pitch selection)

I need to get Odor on the ground more, since he is struggling so badly. He is fly ball heavy in real life, but until he gets back on track, i want him on top of the ball. It's working, as i have him hitting 59% ground balls over his last 10 games, and his Line Drives have jumped to 29% (yes-only 12% FB). Of those BIP, 36% were hit over 95mph! But guess where almost all landed? In gloves. Lol. So he is coming out of that slump, its just not going his way yet. When he comes out of it, I will get him hitting the ball for HR again, but now i just need him on base.

I am curious to see how my new approaches for other players turn out (Choo and Mazara mostly) for GB rate. If they were more successful i wouldn't mess with them but i need more production out of them.

Pitch selection is huge, along with PCI placement. Its easier to pull down on the stick than up, so we naturally tend to go low I think. And higher pitches seem harder to lay off, leading to more balls in the air.

Im hoping to see a few more ground balls than i have been seeing by using my players better, and changing their approaches.

As for Solid Hits at 4, i am curious what happens. In testing i did this, and my line drives were at 18.6% but the remainder was distributed a bit more toward fly balls. (FWIW, I also had bumped power to 6). I think am better at hitting than i was then, so i might get better results if i tested now. Looking forward to seeing what you get.

My team isn't a higher tier team, but has a lot of power, so i hit a lot of HR. The only problem is i hit a lot of HR at the expense of getting on base more often. So i have to ask the question, is the trade off worth it? For me, it hasn't been. I would like HR to decrease a bit, and start seeing more runners on base. Then hopefully when i hit those fewer HR, i do more damage. Fly balls lower OBP, and i need men on base desperately.

How many games have you played with these sliders? And how many HR have you hit?

I have been playing with the following CPU hitting sliders with good results
                CPU Contact 6
                CPU Power 5
                CPU Timing 0
                CPU Solid Hits 10
                CPU Foul Frequency 4

I have found the CPU hitters top to bottom are dangerous, the better players are more dangerous. I just wrapped up a game against Baltimore (lower half team) after playing the yankees, astros, and dodgers, which I have shared those results in this thread. I wanted to know by playing some of the powerful lineups if these sliders would produce realistic results (hitters not be over powering). But I also wanted to know if "weaker" teams would be easier or still present a challenge. Heres one such game...

                Observations:
                1) Quintana was cruising along through the first 5 innings. This was my best pitched game from an analog performance standpoint on these sliders to date. First batter up in the top of the sixth hit a single and I could tell Quintana was close to being done even though he had just topped 61 pitches. His energy level was high but it was the third time through the line up and i could just feel the CPU making adjustments. The next two batters reached to load the bases. I had Kintzler and Montgomery up in the bullpen but I liked my first two rounds against adam jones so I left Quintana in knowing I had arms ready. Well I payed for that lol. Jones sent one just barely over the left field wall for a grand slam. Fast forward two innings later and I have two runners on base with two outs and Rizzo up to bat. He sent a 3-2 changup over the right field wall to tie it, now its a ball game lol. That is until the ninth when Adam Jones with one out ropes a double and then Davis steps in with two outs and hits a now doubt HR 405 ft for the walk off. My strike outs where high in this game but let me tell you the CPU earned it. Bundy was changing my eye level constantly and mixing speed and pitches like a real pro. A lot of my strike outs were 3-2 counts and he would paint the corners. I could of sworn I was watching a real life game. It is scary to me how good the CPU is at reading what your doing and making adjustments on the Legend difficulty level. I also played the game at 4pm and those middle innings it was hard to pick up the ball out of the pitchers hand with the shadow that was cast across mid infield in front of the mound.

Fenway, what's your strategy on base stealing? Do you ever take the extra lead before stealing?

I use the “tap-r2 once and hold r1” method. So when you do this you are telling the runner to steal with out him taking a lead. Holding the r1 for the rest of the pitch gets him a lean towards second without actually taking a lead.

It seems that a majority of the time I took a lead in the past the CPU would throw over, so this seems to work pretty well.

I do this same thing and it works well. I dont remember the last time i took an extra lead.

Edit: except its tap L2 i think? Hard to remember without a controller in my hand.

                        Yep, L2 and L1. I mustn’t have had the controller upside-down again. No wonder I can’t hit.

The Yankees won the division. We won the first game 7-3. The 2nd game we had a 4-1 lead in the 6th and then they tied it at 4. We scored 3 runs in the 8th to make it 7-4. They tied it again in the 8th on 3 straight RBI singles. We scored a run in the 10th and gone on to win 8-7. We had 3 rain delays in that game. That is the first time I had multiple delays in one game. For the last game we played all the rookies and we lost 3-0 to finish the season at 99-63. We will take on the Indians in the Division series. The Red Sox will take on the Mariners in the wild card game.

Now I only hit 1 HR in the 3 games and they didn’t have any.
