Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Nope. Never. Only normal swing every time. I can see the point of maybe using contact in certain situations, but I don’t use it.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
I never use power swing either. 98% normal swings. I dont have an exact dogma on contact swing. There have been times i have used it to try to move runners, or just try to make sure i get the ball in play in critical situations. Last season i never used it. I still strike out using it so its not foolproof. Lately the only player i use contact swing with is Elvis Andrus, because he is just so good at making contact in real life, but in the game he misses more. But even then its not often.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
I'm the odd ball that does, especially with good Contact/Vision hitters.
I pretty much use all the swings, all the influences, etc. Depending on situation and hitter/pitcher."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
I definitely do. My method is to start up high and use the PCI to frame the pitch release and then I follow it. I am pretty selective though and only focus on about half of the strike zone. If the pitch releases and seems to either dart low or outside of the area that I am focused on, I let it go. It makes for a lot of called strikes, but makes it all the better when the pitcher lays one into an area where I am ready.
I used to sit the curser really stationary in an area and wait, but I found that tiny difference in contact location (if the ball was slightly higher or lower than my curser) resulted in a lot more weak contact pop ups or ground outs. Gotta move it!Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Nolan, you said that you track attendance on each game. I used to do that in prior years so I would see my average and total for the year. But this year with the dynamic attendance it changes so I stopped. When do you count the attendance? Before the game?Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
There are different methods, but I actually don't move it, but i am very selective. Like Fenway, i take a lot of called strikes (you should). I play with the PCI and strike zone off, but i have used it so much i can "see" it move. But i purposely make my "unseen PCI" very small in my mind. This helps me be much more selective and make much better contact when i get my pitch.
I have different approaches and different pre-pitch PCI placements with different hitters, and depending on count, situation, etc. And i occasionally do make adjustments mid-pitch on certain counts, or if i get a hanger, etc.
I have a few detailed descriptions on OS threads of my zone hitting approach. In general, until i have two strikes, i usually am very specific in what i am looking for and i am ready for it. With two strikes, i go to the method Fenway described.
Either method works, it just depends on what you like best or gets the best results.Comment

I count it after each game, before i record my batter/pitcher analysis.Comment

Near the middle of the game would probably be bestto record it. Maybe 4th inning or so? But I'm not as interested in attendance anymore to make the extra effort really.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Quick update in the Bronx.
The Yankees have won the first 3 games of the series against the Rays. The Yankees have a 6 game winning streak and won 11 of their last 12. Unfortunately, the Red Sox have kept pace with their own 6 game winning streak before losing today’s game against the Orioles.
The Yankees now sit 0.5 games back with the Red Sox getting a day off before hosting us on Friday night for the last series of the season. If the Yankees win their last game against the Rays we will be tied for 1st place with 3 games to go and going head to head. So it would literally be a best out of 3 playoff series.Comment

The upcoming series matchups are below:
Sonny Gray (11-7, 3.85) vs Brian Johnson (1-2, 3.65)
Luis Severino (12-8, 3.70) vs Chris Sale (15-3, 2.91)
Masahiro Tanaka (14-13, 3.89) vs Rick Porcello (14-7, 3.53)
The first game is huge for me. If I lose I will have to beat Chris Sale. But I did score 5 runs off him last time and won that game.Comment

Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders
Some stats from the last 19 games. These are with all offensive sliders as the OP.
BA: .264
BABIP: .296
HR: 37 (1.9 per game)
K: 162 (8.5 per game)
BB: 49 (2.6 per game)
Hit Distribution:
Singles: 58%
Doubles: 20.5%
Triples: 0.6%
Home Runs: 21%
My home runs have been crazy high. I think it might be just using the Yankees. I did have a 4,5, and a 6 HR day in those 19 days so that kind of inflated the numbers. The other 16 games were 1.4 per game.Comment
