Yankees Make Blockbuster Deal With Rockies

The New York Yankees have made a bold move. They have acquired pending free agents 3B and NL All-Star Nolan Arenado from the Colorado Rockies for:

2B Gleyber Torres (A potential currently 80 OVR)
RHP Justis Sheffield (A Potential currently 77OVR)
CF Ricky Shea (B Potential currently 66 OVR)

But when Aaron Judge (coming off 2017 AL rookie of the year and 2018 MVP and 66 HR’s) came up he also said “We are in extensive talks with Aarons agent and discussing possible extension parameters. We are committed to Aaron as one of core pieces along with Nolan, Bryce and soon Trea Turner whom we expect to blossom.

The Yankees are simply loaded!!!

Not only is it my universe and I could give a rats *** what anyone thinks of what I am doing in a video game......I gave up two excellent young players who will end up being stars in the league and both of them are under 23 years old and under team control for the next 6 seasons. The CF Ricky Shea......is a nice 3rd piece. For a 28 year old All-Star in the prime of his career....who is clearly not going to resign with the Rockies who have Vlad Jr. Nolan wants 25MM and the Rockies are not paying him.

I have seen guys.....cough Stanton, cough Yellich, cough, Ozuna cough cough being given away for a bag of chips.

I gave two Major league ready future stars and a B rated prospect about 1-2 more years away from The Show.

Yeah I raped the CPU.....ok.

I handled all those deals in Year One of this franchise on MLB 17. The Rockies were 14 games out at the All-Star break and went into fire sale mode. Dealing veterans and gaining many young valuable prospects who now are in year 3 and coming of age.

Arenado was put on the trading block by the CPU. So I said....mmmmmm, I have some nice talent, young, under team control, cheap and future stars. I am the freaking Yankees....I can make a deal like this. And it is absolutely fair. And the Cpu agreed to it. I did not force the trade. In fact they balked at just Gleyber and Sheffield. When I added in Shea (who has been tearing it up at AAA this season) they accepted.

This team is going to be insane to play with for the next several seasons. This is plain fun!!!

What I may end up doing is front loading Arenado’s extension and then back loading Judges extension (if I decide to give him one since he is still under team control for 2020 and 2021).

Great trade. Torres would have looked good in an Indians uniform though. Lol.

I am loving the front and back load options. It is super handy when you are trying to rebuild a team and have players coming to an end of team control. Makes for some fun team building logic. Best part is, I see the CPU using those extensions logically too.

I have 2 franchises going. One with the Brewers and one with the Yankees. I’m playing with these sliders and I’m finally getting my strikeouts since the patch. I have played 9 games so far so I know it is a small sample size.

I’m not saying we need to move anything I’m just wondering what I need to move myself.

9 games
Cpu batting average: .222 (little low)
Cpu home Runs: 10 (1.11 per game so it right there)
Cpu doubles: 8 (very low only 10% of hits are doubles)
Cpu Strikeouts: 84 (9.3 per game which is good)
Cpu walks: 15 (1.6 per game which is low)
Cpu extra base hits: 6.1%

I an wanting to see the cpu get a little more extra base hits. Seems they get mostly singles and HR. I would like to walk more hitters if I could. I follow the catcher’s suggestions mostly. But if I lower control and consistency I’m afraid I will struggle to strike them out. Do I raise their solid hits or power?

Reading about some of the trades you are making, free agent signings, contracts, etc. is making me nervous about these GM tasks when (or if) I get to that point. Have you, or anyone, used auto manage for the GM tasks? If so, how was it? I would really hate to ruin my franchise by screwing up these tasks.

After thinking it over and seeing how the new extensions work,

I decided to run the generator for the top three arbitration eligible players on each team in July (the only other chance other than off-season/spring training you can offer contract extensions.

1-33 comes up I will attempt to offer an extension and I will either front load, back load or spread it evenly based on the teams situation, market size etc etc.

34-100 they simply go to arbitration.


When it comes to true free agents I ha e always let the CPU do it’s thing.

I am only doing this for the top 3 players under team control (arbitration eligible).
