    Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders

These are the best sliders with reasons behind them you can find on this forum. No disrespect to anyone else who creates. The only thing I haven’t seen in this game during my franchise with these sliders is an outfield assist by my team with my defenders. Sometimes I get frustrated but honestly how often do you see assets really don’t matter in terms of the game play I have had. Results vary immensely and if your not seeing a variation it’s because you don’t watch baseball. It’s a game of ups and downs. Bad teams win sometimes god teams win 65% of the time or less! I personally am a big fan of these sliders. Gameplay has been fantastic whether I win by 8 runs or lose by 8 runs. People play the game there is no such thing as perfection. I’m not knocking anyone but we are playing a game. Enjoy it. I’ll probably get knocked for this and it’s not my place but I applaud every slider maker on this forum! Josh sliders don’t work move on to the next one man. Negativity be damned! Have a happy Thursday y’all and play ball!

Well, remember, these slider are really built to be more of a bridge between AS and HOF, so they're going to be challenging (particularly if you haven't played a ton). I would just suggest riding things out, focus on getting good pitches to hit (that's the challenge here). Also, if I get in a funk, I will go into Challenge of the Week for a couple of rounds....it's a nice way to see a lot of pitches quickly and get acclimated a bit. Practice mode can serve a similar purpose as well, but I just find CotW to be a bit more fun.

My one piece of advice, whichever interface you decide on, stick with it. Don't waffle back and forth or you'll drive yourself crazy

I appreciate the kind words. The OS community is blessed to have a slew of talented slider and roster makers that are willing to share their passions with the community. This is just my way of contributing what little I can. I figured if my work here could make just 1 person happy, then it was worth the time in sharing.

(As for the OF assists, give default fielding reaction and fielder speed a run and let's see what happens. I'll be doing the same for a long while....)

          Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders

Guys, let me start by saying these sliders are meant to be a base for you and nothing more. The set is not gospel, nor is it set in stone. You need to change things based on two things, your own personal skill level and your own personal expectations. No two players are going to have the exact same skill level throughout every aspect of a game. You might be better than me at hitting but I may be better than you at pitching, so you may have to only adjust some things but not all. The thread is not meant to constantly ask Josh what he can do make the game more enjoyable for you. He's doing what makes the game most enjoyable for him, if you don't have his exact same skill level across the board, as well as the same idea of how every single small detail should play out, then your slider set probably isn't going to be exactly the same as the OP. Look at slider descriptions and adjust for yourself accordingly, its not that hard. Josh has given you a great base and if you follow his guides and always stay within one click of default then you should be good. If you find yourself having to change anything more than one click, then as Josh previously suggested, you should probably be looking into a change in difficulty levels, not sliders.

Let me give you some example's of how Josh and I are different. I can not play with USER CONTROL @ 6. With the Rays it's just not fun. Now Josh uses the Reds (total 180 in terms of pitching staff) so 6 is very usable for him. Another thing I will not change that Josh just did is the fielder reaction and speed sliders. I love these sliders @ 4. I played a M2O with the Yankees when the game first dropped. My biggest gripe with the game at launch was how quickly defenders were getting to balls that hit the wall. I was seeing way too many guys being held to singles when they should've been easy doubles. This definitely had a lot to do with how small Yankee stadium is. But if you've never played at Yankee stadium or rarely do, then 5 is probably perfectly suitable for you.

Josh is not your slider doctor, this thread is meant to share how good the OP is playing for you. Or if you made some of your own changes, what they are and how they're working. This will allow other people who might have a closer skill level to you, rather than Josh, to get an idea on some changes they could make from the OP to better the game for themselves. Again Josh has given you a great base, stay close to default and switch skill levels if you have to. Most importantly enjoy this beautiful game instead of constantly tweaking sliders.

Remember it takes at least 25 games to truly see some ebbs and flows. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever lose again and then I'm totally humbled. Other times I wonder if I'll ever win again, then I rip off 5 straight. Just try to stick with it.

I'm playing on All Star/ All Star still, below are my changes from OP...

          USER/CPU Contact - 5/5
          USER Control - 5
          Fielder Reaction/Speed - 4/4

          2019 TB Rays (34-26, 2nd ALE, 4.5 GB)
I just had one of the most fun games of the season. Coming off a 4 game sweep of a reeling Minnesota Twins team, we were heading up north to Detroit riding a 5 game win streak and feeling on top of the world. We led the game off with a crazy 4 at bats, something I had never seen before. We went triple, ground ball, run scored, triple, ground ball, run scored. 2-0 end of 1. Snell was on the bump for us and he had his usual first inning blunders. After 2 walks and an error the Tigers had the bases loaded but Snell got a huge K to get out the jam. He then proceeded to throw 5 innings of 1 hit ball. His final line was 6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 11 K, 108 Pitches. I was feeling really good when Snell came out of the game because my bullpen had been by far the best part of my team so far this year. I brought in Ryne Stanek for the 7th. He has been just plain filthy all year with a WHIP under 1.00. Unfortunately the Stanek I had come to know and love was not with us. He loaded the bases with a walk, and then walked in a run on his second straight base on balls. With still only 1 out in the inning we were still up 2-1 but not looking great. Stanek then decided to find his form and proceeded to strikeout the next 2 batters. The latter on a 3-2 count, it was very intense. In the top of the 8th inning I was not able to get anything going offensively. I had recorded just a measly 2 hits and no runs since the 2 triples and 2 runs in the first inning. I brought in Jose Alvarado for the 8th as he had been lights out all year long. First batter up was Miguel Cabrera, he singled through the 3-4 hole. Next batter up was Nick Castellanos, he does the same exact thing as Miggy. So now they have guys on 1st and 2nd with nobody out, I'm still up 2-1. Next up is Jeimer Candelario who walks on 4 straight balls. In steps John Hicks. I hung a slider trying to just get one over on the first pitch after walking the previous batter on 4 straight. Hicks did not hesitate and hit a no doubt Grand Slam into the bullpen. I couldn't do anything in the 9th and lost 5-2. Hell of a game.

I’m not setup exactly as the OP either. I have user contact set to 5 user timing set to 4 & im leaving reaction & fielder speed at 4. I’m playing legend hitting & allstar pitching. Currently sitting 20-12 with the A’s in my carryover. Game is playing really well for me with this setup. My recent game i clobbered the Red Sox 13-0. The game before that I was beaten 17-2 by that same team lol.

              Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders

I updated the OP a bit. Added some additional suggestions/details for a number of items. The only slider value that 'changed' is to reflect my use of default fielder reaction/speed.

Basically, I felt that there were things that weren't spelled-out quite as well in the OP that could be of benefit to people (particularly those of you who haven't played the series in a while). I also updated the intro as it was a bit out-of-date.

Hopefully this provides a bit more insight into the "How and Why" of my approach.

I really want to give these a try. I've been playing with Armor's set for awhile so I'm used to HOF. But I like some of the theories behind your values better. I just want to still feel challenged. If anything, I'll likely bump this set up to HOF if I play a large sample size and don't feel challenged.

If you're already used to HOF and are comfortable with it, by all means, just plug in the exact OP and play on HOF. I've played enough HOF to feel comfortable in saying that it should still work quite well. If it doesn't work for you, then you can back down to AS and see how that goes.

After playing a ton of PlayNow games. Finally started a franchise with the Mariners. Through the first 3 games I've gone 1-2. First game lost 2-3 as I kept stranding guys in scoring position, won the second game bats were on fire pitching wavered a little in the middle innings got a 7-4 win, third game got smacked around by the Red Sox gave up 6 runs and 7 hits in the first 2 innings final score 10-1.

Played all games with the sliders as they were before Josh made his most recent change. Also dropped batting to veteran as I've been away from MLB games since '16 and was never really good at hitting to begin with. Played about 30 games with these sliders though and overall really enjoying how every game feels different.

Someone mentioned yesterday about being afraid of the move back to default fielding sliders impacting XBH.

It didn't dawn on me till last night....but yeah, I really hope that person is right. The reality, my Reds are first in the MLB in doubles by a wide margin and are first in BA. That's strong supporting evidence that what I saw/felt with the 4/4 fielding sliders is correct....they should've been at default all along.

I just think that the lowered fielding sliders nerfed defenders a bit too much. I've been seeing some incredible variety in defensive plays since I moved these back to default; there's just a different vibe to fielding. I'm seeing way more close plays, more miscues, and more urgency. Now, the funny thing...in my game last night, I saw 1 play (maybe 2) that I felt the change to default changed the outcome from hit to out. Plays were definitely closer, but not enough to change the outcome in the majority of cases. This was really the final piece I needed to perfect the set. I hope that all of you enjoy it.

Josh, how aggressive could I be with pitch speed? Thinking of dropping it to 4, possibly 3. I've just been struggling hardcore picking up pitched lately for some reason. Switched my camera view you retro last night to help.

I’d do it incrementally, one step at a time.

Also try going into practice mode and use that to mess with cameras a bit and see if one helps.
