Best thing to do is play one game a day and if you want to speed up the game play on Hybrid presentation or skip a lot of the cut scenes (especially the over abundance of pitcher cut scenes). Typically takes me 45 minutes to 60 minutes to finish a 9 inning game on broadcast presentation.

I havent done quick counts in a while, but when I do, I notice that my ability to judge balls and strikes goes WAY up for some reason.

So I play no more than 5 games a week and not for more than 3 days in a row before I take a day off and play something else.

Yeah it takes most of the cycle to finish a season but it keeps burn out from happening.

Some weeks I may play more or play less. Just depends on how busy I am.

I play every pitch every inning.

Like I said, takes a while but the journey is worth it. I will mix in sports and non sport games on my PS5 then play simulation games on my PC. For me, playing more than 1 title at a time keeps me engaged in all my games.

As in you have a better eye at the plate? It's the opposite for me. It could be that when you use quick counts the pitches it skips helps you remain patient at the plate. The opposite happens to me. I see I am in a 1-1 count and my brain says I have to swing at anything close, but if I am not using quick counts then I can take pitches and get into a 1-1 count and feel completely in control still.

I don't understand it, but our brains are complicated devices. I honestly feel more comfortable in an 0-2 count without quick counts than I do in a 2-2 count with quick counts. It's funny, but that's how it is. My biggest issue with quick counts is when a new pitcher comes into the game and you have a 1-2, 2-2, or 3-2 count. I'm guaranteed to swing no matter what. I HAVE to see the pitcher throw a pitch before I can feel great in the box. I wish quick counts had some options where you could select/deselect what counts it would generate, you could tune some settings to make the counts generated more reliant on the ratings of the pitcher/batter/both or be completely random. I wish you could make select that when a new pitcher enters into the game that only certain counts could be generated.

I don't want to ramble on more and clog up Armor's thread here.

I might have to start skipping more of the cutscenes. Games take me anywhere between 1.5 and 2 hours when I don’t skip anything.

I hear you. I don't skip much and I play on hybrid. Takes me 90 minutes easy to finish a game. But I like taking it all in when I play. I like to be fully immersed as if I'm in the ballpark when I play. It all depends how you like to play the game.

Yeah man. Josh made a great post. I try to average a game a day but we all know with life that is impossible. And I do take time off to keep things fresh.

I don’t have a “schedule” and one of the reasons Y2Y saves was such a powerful feature was not feeling like I had to finish a season before the next version came out.

Play at your pace. Sometimes I bang out 3 games in one session, sometimes two…sometimes I play every other day.

But like Josh alluded to. Playing every pitch and every inning is a journey and the amount immersion you get out of it is unmatched in any sport game on the market.

              Have fun with it!

Well I can tell you I typically let it all play out….except those “over in abundance” pitcher cut scenes. Just overkill for me……but hey that is me. I would have rather them keep in the catcher throw backs then what we have with the pitcher cut scenes. Just too many.

I rather see the foul balls play out more. And see batter rituals after every pitch…hey sounds like I am talking about MLB 11 lol!!! I miss that presentation package.

And damn it…..my daily recap screen from MLB 17…..bring it back!!!!!!!

Do you think saving a game “changes” the way the game plays out the rest of the way? I’m getting convinced that it does. Almost a Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde thing. I was cruising winning 5-0 after 5 innings. Have to work so save game (as my daughters wanted to play mine craft). Start game again and give up 6 runs in the next 2 innings and lost 8-7. Complete different game then the first 5 innings. All in my head??

100% consider it the same as a rain delay, no one comes back out the same way they left.

I have lurked here for years but I wanted to jump in and thank this thread for convincing me to go with my gut and stick with The Show 20 and my 2019 Rays franchise. Every year since the mid 90’s I have automatically gone out and bought the newest game but this year it really bothered me that I wouldn’t be able to carry over my team I had grown so attached to over the past few years. So I stuck with my team and I am loving it. One of the main philosophies I have taken away from this thread is just to do whatever you need to do to enjoy the game and I had lost sight of that somewhere back at High Heat 2002.

Right now I am going through a brutal stretch against the Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, and Astros. The Indians crushed me in four straight games and I was facing Gerrit Cole in game 1 against the Astros. He one hit me for 8 innings but I managed to get a run off a walk, SB, and my one hit. I got another hit off their closer and was down to my last strike when Tommy Pham launched a walk off HR to give me a 3-2 win. Good times.

It definitely does play differently. When you save and exit, you are essentially ending the blueprint or loose script associated with that specific game (in-game momentum, does your pitcher have it today?, etc.). When you load it back up, you're loading up a new script for the remainder of your game. The same thing happens in Madden, and it's obvious because the weather and uniforms change. The only thing that is retained are the stats of that game and the energy levels of the players.

                              Two ways to approach this:

                              1. If you're able to, put your Play Station in sleep mode when you have to step away. This way when you come back, you'll literally be picking up where you left off. It's no different than pausing the game.

                              2. If your daughters want to play while you're away for an extended period, then you have no choice but to save and exit. In that case, I would embrace the changes when you resume - either as a rain-delay type situation as mentioned above, or just an is what it is type of deal. Game dynamics change all the time IRL. I.e. one team looks like it's laying the wood to another, and then boom, the game flips. Over the course of 162 games, it all evens itself out.
