Something that I haven't seen talked about in this years thread yet is plate discipline and pitch selection.
Thought of this when I saw someone mention needing to use the swing influence on directional. Yes that can help but I really only use it effectively when I'm in a situation I like and get a pitch I'm sitting on.
Especially for those who feel like they are struggling with hitting, mastering plate discipline has by far been the biggest skill that helped me. Obviously, I'll still get shut out with 2 or 3 hits a few times a year by good pitching or if hitters go cold, but that's expected and part of the game. For example, right now I'm getting shut out by Corbin Burnes through 3 innings with the Phillies, and I only have one hit. But I have 4 walks and 4 strikeouts, and he's had to throw nearly 60 pitches just to get 9 outs. Those strikeouts all came deep in counts on strikes (not chased) that the batter simply whiffed on a good pitch by a stud pitcher.
If you can develop the ability to spit on strikes on the corners or on the black early in counts, take your walks, fight off 2 strike pitches, and crush hittable pitches in good counts, it will improve your hitting results tremendously.
As far as the stick influence, I'll really only use that in 2-0 or 3-1 counts and with only certain hitters, but if it's not somewhere I want it, I won't swing.

Update: Knocked out Burnes after 5.2 IP, 110 pitches, 5 hits, 2 runs, 6 K's and 6 walks. I have a 2-1 lead so need the pen to hold on. Also 2 guys on so looking for some 2 out action. I'll take this all day against a Cy Young favorite like Burnes.
Hate to be the guy that keeps updating a single game in the sliders thread but wow. 2 straight 2-out singles by Hoskins and Harper off of the Brewers pen (Bettinger) to make Burnes line read 4 ER.
Definitely my favorite game of the year so far!!! Hit the Milwaukee pen pretty well, my starter Gibson faltered in the 7th and I ended up winning 8-4. Love this game!!
All comes back to plate discipline importance!
