I think it varies pitcher to pitcher and pitch to pitch. Sometimes I find tapping gives me good location on an outside pitch, and sometimes a slight hold gives me good location on that same pitch when using a different pitcher. It truly is a great setting for trying to figure out what’s working on the game. And as your pitcher tires out, you have to adjust and find it again. At least that’s my experience on it.

Hey Armor! Wanted to give some thoughts on the sliders based on the gameplay. The revised edition definitely made the hitting more realistic again. The power at 4 just seemed like guys couldn’t hit it out of infield. Back at 5 I’ve seen better variety in hits. Bloops, ropes down the line, oppos in the gap, and of course homers.

The only thing I’m seeing right now is fielder’s reaction/route to the ball. Take Michael A. Taylor for example, one of the higher rated outfielders, I’m noticing he’s taking inefficient routes to the ball more often than not, which you wouldn’t expect from a defender first player like him. Don’t know if anyone else has seen this to be the case.

Pitcher control at 4 seems fine for me to this point. Good disparity between elite pitchers, average pitchers, and low tier pitchers.

This game feels so smooth again. Way better than 21.

Turn fielder speed back to 4 and leave reaction at 4 and report back if you don’t mind after 3-4 games.

            Great feedback!!!

I have speed at 4 and it seems to be working okay. Early returns though. The thread I posted re: infielders not charging ground balls was with speed on 3. I experienced a similar play to the one I wrote about with fielder speed on 4 and did not have an issue with the outcome.

Ok jumped the gun as well... holding until all vibration does NOT increase accuracy and actually seems to make your pitcher tired faster since max effort each time lol. This has been established but since I made a long post about it, wanted to admit I jumped too early as well on that train.

BUT I will say last night, I FINALLY got my first freaking win! Red Sox 2 Twins 0. My SP went 7 innings, 11K, 1BB, 0ER, and only allowed 2 hits.

From opening pitch to last pitch, my SP just was in the zone and it showed. I forgot how good classic pitching can be (switched to pinpoint last year).. Sometimes you just know its gonna be a rough short outing, then theres times where your guy just has his stuff. This game he had it.

I had YET to allow less than 5 runs, so for anyone struggling or doing too good, keep playing, it will change. Baseball's highs/lows are so well represented in this game and after getting burnt last year, my love for this game has come back. Everything is feeling great to me and I cannot wait to get back into the next game.

Am I overlooking a way to keep the strike zone up even as the pitch is incoming? I know you, A&S, play with the zone off, but I'm actually hitting this year from the broadcast angle also, so I wanted to have the zone up at all times like real broadcasts. I swear you were able to in this past, but it's fading away this year.

Maybe I'm misremembering. It isn't a huge deal either way but I figured I'd ask.

I’m one of the guys that are doing “too good” at the moment. I’m 17-6 with the Jays and my starters go at least 7 innings and pitch counts are low. I do classic clean screen like everyone else here, but I put CPU foul frequency back to 5 to see if that will make a difference.

FYI, foul frequency just opens up the timing of the swing even more. Depending on which way you move the slider, it just dictates what types of hits you'll get on early/late swings.

For example, if you have foul frequency at 0, you'll see more hits right down the lines. It actually increases the hit variety lowering the slider.

The slider doesn't impact the ability to foul off pitches to stay alive if that's what your aim was when increasing it. Contact is going to control that.

I did way too much testing of the sliders in the past when I made my sets in prior years.

Essentially timing and foul frequency work together for how early/late your swing can be and still put the ball in fair territory.

Contact/solid hits dictate how often the bat actually makes contact with the ball and how often it is hard contact. So higher contact and lower solid hits will lead to more foul tips and whatnot, but it may negatively impact other areas of the game as you might see the line drive % go down as well.

Do you have vibration on? If so, I would turn it off.

My view on classic pitching is this. Classic works as if you are actually a pitcher in a game. While the mechanics are the same, you are always slightly adjusting pitch to pitch. Classic pitching is the same way. Pitch to pitch and pitcher to pitcher is different. You hold/dont hold the button the same way every time.

Its a feel. I strongly believe this. Each pitcher, each at bat, each throw.

One pitcher you may hold the button a tad longer to get the same result as a different pitcher trying to do the same thing not holding it as long.

Its what I love best about Classic pitching. It isnt a same button count routine when you throw. Its what pitcher you have and how is he pitching that day. Bad start, adjust button timing and see if you can get through the outing. I have countless times gave up high pitch count 1st inning and then adjusted my button timing to bail me out. Real pitchers are the same way. Adjust, correct, by feel. I never try to find the perfect hold, but I try to find the perfect hold every pitch.

Just my .02 on classic pitching.

Holy crap someone who actually has the sliders defined exactly how I have come to understand them lol. Last year taught me a lot with the amount of slider tinkering I had to do on classic legend pitching. Canes is spot on 100% on all of this. Foul frequency at 0 is an automatic adjustment for me now to increase hit variety.

Amen to all of this! My biggest problem right now is I am starting from a blank franchise slate (just scored a PS5). I want to start a current day franchise with MLBTS 22 and a historical 80s franchise WITH MLBTS 20 using VolsFan stellar roster.

I'm thinking the 2022 Cardinals and the 80's Royals (my fav team of today and the 80s) OR the 2022 Red Sox and the 80s Cubs (tribute to the 2 best stadiums of all time) OR the 2022 Tigers and the 80s Reds "or vice versa" (Tribute to Sparky Anderson)

                              Thoughts?

I couldn't word it better myself. Well done explaining classic pitching. What you do when pitching is exactly what I do during games, within the same at bat etc.

It's a thing of beauty when you find the rhythm of the SP for a game. It's almost as if you become that pitcher and get into a zone.
