Has anyone else noticed how inconsistent the umpires are this year.

They will miss calls all the time that should be easy strikes. I'm not complaining I like the realism. I'm glad it is a part of the game.

But man those missed calls can cost you the game.

Each umpire definitely has there own strike zone this year.

In checking out his roster thread, these 2 lines jumped out to me, it seems like there were reworks for both which I could see resulting in what I witnessed when checking out the rosters.

As I said before, I have a great respect for those that work on rosters for any of the major sports games as I'm sure it is a massive job, so I am in no way "knocking" anybodys work.
        Wow this is A LOT.

I also think I saw that they suggest playing default sliders, and slightly modifying from there..

          Re: S & B’s Directional/Classic MLB 23 Sliders

Just wanna share my experience with the fidelity roster through 4 games:

Game 1 Phillies vs Rangers: Final score 6-4
          Hits: 9 and 12
          Homeruns: 5
          Extra bases: 6
          SO: 12 for Phillies
          13 for rangers
Nola vs Degrom so that’s expected

          Game 2: Final score 4-1
          Hits: 7 and 6
          Homeruns: 2
          Extra bases: 3
          SO: 9 for phillies
          5 for Rangers

          Game 3: Final score 4-3
          Hits: 5 and 10
          Homeruns: 2
          Extra bases: 3
          SO: 6 for phillies
          10 for rangers

Game 4 Phillies vs Yankees: Final score: 8-6
          Hits: 9 and 16
          Homeruns: 2
          Extra bases: 5
          SO: 9 for phillies
5 for Yankees (they had a rookie on the mound because of the injuries to their pitching staff

Obviously this is a small sample size but for me I think everything looks and feels pretty good aside from maybe having only 6 homeruns in 3 games between both teams but I’ll go ahead and play some more and see if the HR totals fluctuate some more.

The biggest reason why I won't use re-rated rosters anymore is cause I'm not trying to figure out how to re-rate drafted players to match up with the roster. Loved true sim rosters in 2021 when I used them. But I literally took photos of all drafted players just so I could maybe edit them before the next season began when they're on rosters.

I never reached that point, but I told myself that I wasn't about to do that again lol. I wish there was a live roster that just had equipment updates and correct pitch repertoire. But no rating edits at all.

                  Re: S & B’s Directional/Classic MLB 23 Sliders

Okay, I just gotta say, I feel I'm getting REAL close to starting my franchise.

The last test I wanted to run was my ace Kershaw getting the start going against the Dbacks and Zac Gallen.

This game did not disappoint and played exactly how I was hoping...the game remained scoreless up until the 5th when the Dodgers were able to break through with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, the Dbacks weren't able to break through until the top of the 8th when Marte hit a solo shot of off Kershaw.

The hits for both sides were even at 7, Kershaw went 8 innings giving up 7 hits while striking out 9 and only walking 1

Gallen went 6 innings giving up 7 hits with 9 strikeouts

Kershaw left the game with 106 pitches thrown while Gallen left with throwing 79.

The reason I wanted to use Kershaw was because I wanted to see if it "felt" different with my pitchers, and it definitely did not disappoint...I did get into trouble a few times but was able to pitch out of it with either a well timed strikeout or a much needed fly out or ground out.

Also one last note, I had read in this thread that you HAVE to throw strikes to get strikeouts....this (in my experience) is 100% false....with Kershaw I kept the Dbacks off balance for pretty much the whole game, mixing up location and was able to get them to bite at pitches that were definitely outside the strike zone...

Oh yea, I won 3-1 was an all around great game.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

I lowered user solid hits to 3. That is helping with keeping my batting average at a real pace. Let me know how it feels for you.

You beat someone besides the Cubs? LOL

It is good that you can tell the difference between your 1st and 5th starter. But the Dodgers have like 4 1st starters so there is that. LOL

I don't see us making much more changes at this point. We have pretty much tried every combination to get the results we want. Any more testing we would just be going in circles. But pitching is pretty much final. I'm testing User solid hits at 3 just because we are getting too high of batting averages. But that is so a preference and based on skill level.

You don't get Ks just because you can locate your pitches. At least not on this game. You get them by changing speeds mostly. And then secondly is changing eye level of the batter. Last three games I played with contact at 9 I had Ks of 14, 4, and 15. I honestly hate how easy they made it this year. Last year I had to work hard just to reach 10Ks.

And it doesn't matter the difficulty. I can get same amount on all. Only difference is on legend nearly all outs are via strikeout or it's a hit which isn't fun lol. Unless I leave contact and timing at default or maybe 6. Then it's back to overall weak cpu offense for me and not challenging. Allstar just for me anyway, presents best balance I'm looking for once contact and timing is raised for cpu offense to be threatening.

Edit: just for fun I pitched only on legend vs Cubs with Phillies. Default cpu hitting sliders, still control 3 and consistency 2 for me.

Cubs had 7 hits. 2 homeruns (one due to low consistency), 3 doubles. But still 16 strikeouts. That's how legend typically plays out for me on default. If I used default control and consistency then they would have less hits. And crazy enough, I'd probably have less than Ks. Weird how that works lol.

If I raise their hitting then enough to not get so many Ks, I am overpowered, and out of 27 outs, over half are guaranteed Ks cause it's almost the only way I can get outs lol.

You’re playing these games in Franchise right?

Im asking because myself like the other guy is having getting Ks… Wonder if its because Im playing exhibition games?

Dont think that should matter but I definitely am not getting double digit Ks like you are.

I may have to try the CPU Contact 7/Timing 5 like Bryan mentioned.

Yes. I feel sometimes the CPU needs it but I think in the long term, they woulnd't get enough extra base hits. They get too many singles.

Yes. All of our testing is done in a test franchise. We have simmed to July and tested to get the mid-season energy. We also tested at the beginning of the year to have everyone on the same playing field. Shouldn't necessarily be on a hot or cold streak just yet.

Yea I decided to give the Cubs a break this time

Oh yea I'm well aware about the Dodgers with their pitching staff....lol but again my curiosity got the better of me and I had to give it a go with Kershaw, and the results speak for themselves.

Yea I agree about not making any changes, the biggest thing was getting the cpu to be balanced and I feel this has been very much accomplished, there is not one issue that sticks out to feel like OMG time to change this or that slider....lol
