Thanks to my laptop going ****, I lost everything. I thought about using an AL team, but I hate the DH. So I went with the Cubs.

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Ok I found it, thanks man.
I saw a lot of you guys changed trading to "hard" to make it realistic so that's what I went with. Its pretty challenging to trade now but the astros don't have many great tradeable pieces so that's realistic. I am trying to get rid of Bud Norris and Carlos Pena mainly due to their contracts and for Pena his age is also a factor. I have been trying to trade for prospects to build on my farm. I didn't make a trade today but I may Sim closer to the trade deadline tomorrow and hope to make a deal.
If you don't mind being a few years away yet, here's how the team could possibly look in 4-5 years down the road.
C - Jason Castro (age 25). 5+ hitting tools across the board a possibility. Good arm. 4+ speed.
1B - Jonathan Singleton (age 21). Think Joey Votto type hitting, with a few more Ks (and possibly a few less doubles) as a possibility if he pans out.
2B - Jose Altuve (age 22). I'm high on him. Like his ability to avoid Ks and get on base.
3B - Matt Dominguez (age 23). 5+ power/contact. Won't strike out a lot. Maybe .270-.280 range with 20-30 HR.
SS - Carlos Correa (age 18). 6+ contact, 5+ power. Above average in the field. If he pans out, you won't need a SS for a loooooong time.
LF - Bobby Borchering (age 22). 5+ contact, good home run power. A bit below average in the K department, but not everyone has to hit .295. Can also cover at first and possibly third. Maybe another .260-.270 with 25+ HR.
CF - George Springer (age 23). Game has him in RF, he's a natural CF. Another power bat but he will strike out a lot. Maybe Adam Dunn type K's, but the potential is there to string together some nice seasons.
RF - Domingo Santana (age 20) is probably the best prospect for RF the Stros have, if you keep Springer in center. Relatively average across the board. Won't be bad, won't be a standout. Has good power potential, but will strike out a lot.
Their farm (if it develops, of course) has the potential for starters at every position with some left over. RF is by far the weakest of them all, if you keep Springer in center (which I personally would.)
The pitching rotation, however, is lacking front-of-the-rotation guys. Cosart, Lyles and Foltynewicz can be solid guys for the 4/5 slots (even the 3 if one of them sees improvements, which is possible.)
Looking at some leftover prospects (along with Pena/Norris for trade bait) you have a few guys that stick out as prospects to make trades for the rotation a bit stronger. SS Jonathan Villar sticks out like a sore thumb to me. He's fast, and has a great arm and range but his glovework is subpar. He's still a good prospect to add in to trades, and his bat is very unreliable. Correa makes him superfluous. Also, 2B Delino DeShields Jr. Pretty much what I said (minus the arm strength) about Villar is true about DDJ.
There are two solid, and fairly highly rated prospects to throw into a trade. There's also some lesser quality prospects like SS Jiovanni Mier and LF Austin Wates that can be added.
Just messing around for fun (with the difficulty on hard for trading) I have found...
Astros send: SP Bud Norris, SS Jonathan Villar, 1B Carlos Pena and SP Lance McCullers Jr.
Mariners send: SP Danny Hultzen, SP James Paxton and SP Blake Beavan
to work.
Once you get used to playing around with the trade machine and also realizing that some players with low potential (but decent single ratings potentials) can be useful to a team.
I was super lost when I started OOTP, but I have a decent grip on it now. Not a pro, but decent enough.

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Just for fun I actually started a franchise as the Astros. I think I will plan on giving bi-monthly updates, to see how I do/how the prospects actually pan out.
I will say that some are underrated (or seemingly underrated.) Paxton and Hultzen in here are like... #3 starter stuff at best (maybe Hultzen could hit #2 status if the stars all aligned.)
I did a trade similar to the one I posted above. I have no goals for the season from the owner, so this season is literally me booting games and hoping the prospects develop properly. Should be fun.badComment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Ubernoob, those are very good options. I never thought about trading Villar or deshields becuase I thought they were good prospects, but I don't need them. I will add them to a trade and maybe fill out the weaker positions, like the outfield. Thanks for the advice.
Also, looking forward to your Astros updates. Just to see how other people run them and how it works out for them. Good luck!Comment

I had an issue in my Astros save (all of a sudden Hultzen and Paxton were gone from my minor league system, couldn't find them in any lists either) so I'll restart it when I get back around to OOTP gaming time.
Got a beta coming up this weekend I'm a bit excited for though, so a game I own can wait a bit.badComment

Quick end of June update. Angels are coming off a 3 game sweep of the Pirates. Howie Kendrick is coming back from DL, currently on a rehab assignment but should be up with the big club in the next week or so.Comment
