I'm not saying there are not issues, but I do think some settings play into the AI trade offers quite a bit.
If I recall everything was set to default, but I don't remember what that was for OOTP18.

Think of that initial offer from the cpu as a starting point. Actually, the trade I made for Jarrod Dyson and posted in the Franchise thread a couple of days ago is a good illustration of how the final deal can look a lot different than the initial offer. It went from me taking on salary and losing a prospect to me gaining cash and not losing a prospect.

EDIT: My settings were on difficult (so 2nd hardest level) and favor prospects (2nd most slanted level toward prospects).

Have to disagree with you guys on this one as the logic doesn't fly when you take MLB out of the name. Certainly none of us are in the GM rooms to see some of the crazy offers, but apply the logic to real life. If you have a car with $18k. You might put it up for sale asking $20k seeing if anyone bites. If someone comes in and offers you $10k are you going to waste your time negotiating with them (real life example)? You always low ball in your initial offer, but if you go too far then you just don't get taken seriously. Now, if that same person were to have instead offered $15k then yeah you might continue talking because there is room for common ground as they are just 25% below your asking price and within 20% of what the car is worth.

I guess my point is that in order to have a negotiation the original offer needs to at least have a foundation. If you get some bogus offer for one of your players then why continue talking about that player? You're starting from scratch so really you're just trading for the sake of trading which I don't think is very realistic unless you were actively looking to get rid of that player.

Only have about an hour with OOTP19 so far, but in my short sample size I'm finding the trade logic to be better.. I used someone recommended evaluation setting I found (50/30/15/5), and neutral for prospects/mlb players. Still not easy to put the finishing touches on a deal, but it does feel better so far.

Made the purchase yesterday. Reading a few comments on how to setup a league properly for realistic A.I. Decision Making. Other than the 50/30/15/5 suggestion, is there anything else that drastically changes behavior for the better?

It really depends on what you consider to be "better" !

You can customize pretty much everything you can think of. But, probably leaving everything at default and testing the waters is a good start.

I usually jack up trade difficulty to hard or very hard and set it to favor prospects or heavily favor prospects. You can also make your scouting more/less accurate and give yourself more/less detail to look at by changing ratings scales (1-100, 1-20, 20-80, 2-8, no ratings visible etc) to your liking.

Good call, I should have clarified more. Simply looking for a smarter, challenging A.I. that I can’t fleece. Very impressed with this game so far.

Does the game no write recaps for nonhuman games? I thought it did in the past. Am I just imaging this?

I see them now, the league news just isn't updating with anything, but my team's news which was throwing me off.

Not really sure what happened, maybe Rain Out games not getting played? I setup a fictional league, but imported MLB so it's basically the real life setup, just fictional players. Season length is set to 162 games, but one team has 154 games played and the rest is split between 153 & 150 games played. Also might need to take down Use Of Relievers from the default Extreme.

If you change the number of teams or realign the divisions at all, you need to "generate schedule." Same with if you toggle interleague play, change the length of spring training, change the default series length etc.

Not sure if I generated it right. Went into League Settings --> Options --> Edit League Schedule --> Actions --> Generate Fictional Schedule.

                  Still getting 150-153 game schedules

                        1. Have you altered the MLB any? Are there more/fewer teams? Have any divisions been changed?

                        2. On that OPTIONS page, is it set to 162 game schedules? Has anything else been changed on this page from default?

                        3. When I redo the schedules for my leagues, normally I do it slightly differently than what you described above.

I go to LEAGUE SETTINGS --> LEAGUE AND TEAMS --> EDIT LEAGUE STRUCTURE --> GENERATE SCHEDULE. Note that it's not GENERATE FICTIONAL SCHEDULE with the way I do it so I wonder if that makes a difference or not.

Someone mentioned they like to set AI Evaluation to that ratio. It's not really a "thing," just someone's preference for that setting.

Depends on whether you go pitch by pitch and how much thought you put into certain things. I have been playing AB by AB and games have been taking me about 20 minutes. Pitch by pitch would be longer.

Season Ticket. It was their CD version of the game sold in stores.

I use the default evaluation percents and trading stuff.

Some of the trade offers are stupid, and if they are too stupid, I'll do just that...reject and move on.

Just like near the deadline, teams started completely ignoring my needs settings (like completely), offering me mediocre 29-year-olds for my young players. Needless to say, I just basically ignored them.

But then I was able to dump Wei-yin Chin's contract. It took some doing and I had to suck up losing a decent player for almost nothing, but that money already came in handy this offseason. I was also able to get some other prospects, etc.

So some of the offers are going to be just bad. I will disagree with the sentiment that I wouldn't want the trade AI to offer me what I want...I mean...that's what the needs setting is for...and for the most part, it does at least try to offer/dangle someone that fits the criteria (perhaps it's ignored around the trading deadline because it's the trading deadline).

But you will get some "uh...no" type offers. Can't blame them for trying. I mean...I did...and got Eflin for Conley + a prospect... and turned Alford into Royce Lewis... *shrug*
