Baseball is crazy.
Just finished 2019 in a Yankees save. Severino made the ASG, got the pitching triple crown and was a unanimous Cy-Young winner. He had the second-most strikeouts by a right hander in Yankees history. But, thanks to leaving the lineups/rotation to Boone, he pitched in one of the last two games of the season. We lost both games so Boston won the division and we had to play in the WC and send Sonny Gray to the mound. We los to the Blue Jays, who made it all the way to the WS, so our season was over.
Wasting such a gem of a season from Savvy stung. Have you all experienced similar disappointment? Another example is that Bellinger of the Dodgers hit 65 homers, breaking the record but LA didn't even make the World Series.
Another fun happening:the Cy-Young winners were Sevvy and the Mets' Noah Syndergaard (who also won in 2018.) Empire State of Mind!
Edit II: In 2020, we made the playoffs again but lost to the Angels in the ALDS.
2021: Won the division and went 10-1 in the playoffs heading into the potential WS clincher in St. Louis. We wound up losing a 24 INNING GAME in which Aaron Judge struck out a disgusting NINE TIMES. 3The team struck out 34 times that game and left 28 men on base. But it worked in our favor...
The next game was the very next night and St. Louis' pitchers were totally gassed. The game went to extras and the Cardinals literally ran out of pitchers. Somehow, outfielder Tyler O'Neill threw two scoreless innings but then outfielder Jose Martinez gave up the losing run, a homer by Estevan Florial. Severino came out of the pen and was the winning pitcher while Chance Adams got the save. One of the most stressful pair of games I've ever watched. But we're champions again.
