Re: What is the greatest baseball videogame of alltime
High Heat from 02-04 where great..the first trpile plays I liked, until it became garbage...MVP 05, and I also think MLB Power Pros deserves a place on this list as well.Comment

Re: What is the greatest baseball videogame of alltime
Does anyone remember Hardball 6 for the pc? It may be nostalgia, but my older brother and his friends and I would play that game for hours on end. In this one game I was playing with the Astros, winning by 1 in the bottom of the ninth, playing the dodgers, man on 1st, Mike Piazza at the plate. The next thing I remember was Piazza trotting around the bases...Comment

I'm glad I'm not the only old timer here (old timer? I'm 44!). Earl Weaver Baseball for the Amiga. Throw in also the Commissioner disk and you had quite a deep experience.
See here for more info on why it was so innovative:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Weaver_Baseball
One thing which still hasn't been duplicated, was the ability for the player announcer to say player names phonetically. Thus, if you wanted to create a japanese player with a difficult to pronounce name, you are screwed. Because the "talking" used the Amiga's "say" synthesised talking, the game provided the ability to override the grammatical name and just use phonetics. Very well done, if a bit robotic though. But since we could have every player named as they walked up to the plate and it all fit inside 1 meg, I call that "impressive".
One error on the wiki though. it states EWB was the first game to provide "single pitch mode" for the manager option. That would be incorrect, Micro League Baseball for the Apple II (and probably C64) had this option years before, early 80's I think. Micro League Baseball, that was another innovative game that all current baseball producers should bow down to.
On other systems, I have to say MVP was a great series, probably the most fun. I'm taken by MLB 08 right now but it's way too early to tell where it would fit in.Comment

Re: What is the greatest baseball videogame of alltime
I would venture to say that 90% of the people who voted for MVP do not own a PS3. The Show 08 is better than MVP in every single category.
and for the people who voted for MLB 2k8 as the best game of all time ? All time ? no freaking way, not even close. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: What is the greatest baseball videogame of alltime
you're right about my vote....haven't played the show(no ps3...just a 360 and ps2)...so I really can't say which is better between the two personally. I have thought about buying a ps3 for the game but just can't justify buying a gaming console for one game right now.My Teams
NCAA: Arkansas Razorbacks
MLB: St. Louis Cardinals
NFL: Dallas Cowboys

Re: What is the greatest baseball videogame of alltime
Im surprised at the lack of love High Heat is receiving... but maybe that's because I'm getting too old. High Heat 2002 revoloutionized what people could expect in a baseball title. It was the first of the series to get heavily modded, and the on field results were just perfect.
High Heat greased the wheels for a lot of the baseball titles that followed.
My ranking...
1. High Heat (2002, mainly)
2. MVP 05
3. MLB The Show 07
Honorable mentions:
1. Homerun Kings (Gamecube) It had many issues, but to this day, it had some of the most gorgeous stadiums we've seen. It also had full followthroughs/swings for all the big stars, like Griffey Jr. and Bonds. Many games still don't do that!
2. Interplay Baseball (PS1) also played damn good, from what I rmeember.Comment
