Re: An in-depth comparison of The Show and Pro Yakyuu Spirits (for anyone who cares)

That's a fair point - I can understand the confusion for some. Let me preface by saying my comments are geared strictly for zone batting users.

Personally, I've never seen the yellow marker as the "end-all, be-all" of contact in the game for The Show. I know other games such as PYS and ASB have utilized a finite marker to indicate contact. They aren't the same approaches and I'm sure that's by design.

Let's really think about it here - Sony can change their batting approach to mimic PYS' cursor. Personally, I don't think it's necessary. IMO, it's a more realistic model, that's for sure. The thing is.... they are really the same things with a slightly different graphic and "trigger" zone. With all the complaints about hitting, I don't think it's the right move for The Show, just to say it's a more accurate model.

As the difficulty levels go up, you have a much smaller representation of a true bat. Try playing the game on Legend.

I think change for the sake of change isn't always a good thing. That's my issue with the Sony should do it just like this mindset .

I don't think too many people play PYS with Zone Hitting. I can certainly see where hitting in The Show would be quite difficult on higher settings. I can't see why Sony wouldn't implement an option for cursor hitting. I would find it interesting. They have to work on pitcher's deliveries. They don't compare.

In fairness to the Show, they have 30 pitching staffs versus 12 in PYS.

PYS arrives on Monday. Will report back how it is, pretty excited. I've got my Carp finally in the Japan series against the Ham Fighters on my last weekend on 2011.....

Yes I know there a lot more players in MLB but I am not talking about signature deliveries just something a bit more lifelike.

??? The user is completely in charge of where the ball is hit, so if you truly think there's too many ground balls then you're either swinging too high or swinging at pitches very low & under the strike zone. If someone were to say the CPU hits too many grounders then I wouldn't buy it either because players are rated in 7 different trajectories. Some tend to hit flyballs, some hit line drives etc...

Too easy to strike out CPU batters? Sure, on easy settings. I get realistic strikeout percentages on a moderate difficulty level. Being able to paint corners with aces is the only complaint you'll consistently hear, so of course you get more strikeouts with them. But there are things you can do to make pitching more difficult such as turning the pitch cursor off etc.

Also, not one person I'm aware of has said this game needs sliders. It's well tuned out of the box, and with each player able to have something like 50 different attributes/skills attached to them it's hard to tell if sliders are even needed. It's as if each individual player is their own slider set LOL.

But Pared is right, if this game went "MLB" and a million people buy it then you'll have tons of requests for sliders and accurate sock colors. Not because it's really needed, but because people are used to them and expect it. If one little thing is off it's all about "Where's the sliders?"

I'm telling you Americans would ruin this game. It's best they keep it in Japan, we just need to convince Konami to put some English in the game. I like learning about and playing with the Japanese players, and when I want my MLB fix I switch over to The Show or 2K - both good games IMO.

I tend to hit to many of those weak popups from aiming under the ball to much, lol.

As far as english in the game i'd settle for an english manual. Korea gets one in Korean so that might be something they would consider but not very likely. I wouldn't even know how to go about emailing that kind of request.

I know the user is in charge, but compared to the Show, it's a lot harder to make solid contact. And I also said that it's fairly easy to strike out the CPU with a good pitcher, didn't say too easy. I was also referring to the default settings compared to the Show's default settings. The Show doesn't sell a million copies in the US, so I doubt PYS would if it had MLB teams. Japanese gamers complain/nitpick about PYS just like we do about the Show, it's all relative.

Re: An in-depth comparison of The Show and Pro Yakyuu Spirits (for anyone who cares)

For a while, when I first started playing PYS, I used to wish that Konami would get the license to do an MLB version with the same gameplay. But after a couple of years, I've grown to enjoy playing with the Japanese league. Honestly, I would be more than happy if Konami would just release a version of the game exactly as it is, but with English menus and overlays.

Also, I'm not someone who thinks The Show needs to try to start copying everything that PYS does. They are two very different games, and it should stay that way. That being said, all game developers can learn from each other, and there's nothing wrong with looking at what other games do right, and trying to incorporate certain aspects of that into your own game. It's great that The Show put so much effort into creating realistic ball physics in this year's game. I'm not saying that was directly influenced by PYS, but still, it's a step in the right direction, and something that I hope Sony continues to work on. I would also like to see them give a little more weight to where you aim the PCI and how that affects hitting.

I really do wish I had more fun playing The Show, because it is a very well-made game, and it gets so many details right. And I agree with Pared that change for change's sake isn't necessarily a good thing. I'm not blaming the game for not being able to keep my attention, it just comes down to my own preferences, and what is fun for me. It has never been my intention, and certainly wasn't my intention with this thread, to try to convince fans of The Show that PYS is better and they should play it instead. I only want to share my thoughts on a game that I really enjoy, so that other people who are curious about it can get a better idea of why some of us prefer it to The Show.

I like learning about the NPB, and it's because of PYS. The atmosphere alone makes it unique, so I wouldn't want PYS to become American. I'm just hoping for more English menus & overlays too, and maybe a cheaper price point lol.

The fielding in this game is incredible. Turning double plays the circus catches in the outfield. It really has no rival.

I agree. Turning a double play is one of the greatest feelings in PYS.

2012 has arrived. Now the hard part: which pacific league team to run with (2011 used Carp in the Central) and thus will need to update my avatar on here.

I'm leaning toward the Golden Eagles.

Yes, more taxing on pitching. My 2013 Carp staff was top notch, but Tanaka is a great start to the staff......
