So whats the verdict? Does this game play a reasonably well game of manage only baseball? I don't think any of us are expecting OOTP type realism, but hopefully its in the realm.

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
Can someone give some more impressions regarding the play? I've seen a few games, but has anyone played a week or two into the regular season? I know we're going to have some close games and some blowouts, but what's the performance like over the long hall?Comment

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
I'm running an expansion franchise in MO mode - today I won the first game in Alaska Beluga history with a 4-2 win (spring training) over the Indians and it was a blast. From the 7th inning on my hands were sweating on the controller as I brought in relief pitchers, pinch hit, pinch ran and pulled out every stop in the book to get the win.
What was great is that the CPU would counter my moves by intentionally walking the next batter after a sac bunt, brining in righty/ lefty pitching matchups, etc... It got really tense and was a thrill to hold on and win.
I'm now 1-7, but you have to start somewhere.Comment

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
From what I've been hearing at other messageboards, it appears that the Manange Only Mode as officially come out of the Deadball Era. Now if Sony would just hurry up and allow Acclaim to release, instead of delaying so that MLB can sell more copies. There was no excuse for why the PS2 version could not come out at the same time as the XBOX version. I was expecting to play ASB during my spring break this week, now I'll get it next week (or the week after) and I'll be back into college full swing. All Star or college, decisions...decisions.Comment

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
Hey fellow MOMs...
Played a bunch more Manage-only spring training games this afternoon and got some interesting results. First off, I've decided that random pitch count seems to be the best way to go, as I've gotten a decent ammount of walks. With the smart count on I got WAY too many walks-- it seems when your guy is out of juice he starts every at-bat with a 3-0 count on the batter.
I've also discovered that, similar to last season, having your guys take pitches early is beneficial later as pitcher's get much more hittable as they lose stamina. So anyway, I managed two straight shut-outs-- the Phillies and Tigers, throwing Freddie Garcia and Juaquin Benoit and near every guy in my pen. And just as I began to fear my opponents weren't going to hit, the Expos put up 10 on me the next game. It was the most satisfying beating I've ever taken.
I'm digging the manage-only mode now. I could change my mind though.Comment
