I'm a manage only player also. I've loved that mode of play since the old Micro League Baseball series in the 80's. It looks like ASB is the only way to go for us manage only players this year. I'm glad to see it looks like the offense has been improved. I've noticed in some other posts where a player is called safe at 2nd or home even though it's clear the ball beat the runner to the base. And beat the runner by a lot, like the runner is only halfway down the line and the throw is already at the base. Yet the runner is called safe. Is this a problem in manage only mode too? Thanks.

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
I got the game yesterday but have not played a lot yet. I played Earl Weaver, LaRussa and HH for years on a PC. I only play MOM. Since this was the only option available, I picked up ASB.
I'm not going to concentrate much on the good. There is a lot of it though, so don't get the wrong idea. Graphically it is awesome. Lots of cool, subtle things to love in this game.
The gameplay in MOM is better than watching a real MLB game. I am not using any generated pitch counts but the game still moves by quickly. The offense seems real enough to me although stealing seems tough. But, making changes like sending a runner or bunting is a major drag. You have to jump out of the action and retake control of all players. Then, once you make your decision, you have to go back and change all your players back to CPU control again. Annoying! But since this is my first console game and it is the only MOM in town, you'll learn to live with it.
My biggest disappointment is how hard it is to customize a league. I was hoping to create a new club, use it to replace a team like the Expos, draft the league from scratch and play (think NCAA Football 2004). No such luck. I settled on having two franchises. One is an expansion team (picked up Matsui, Chase Utley, Contreras, Urbina, and Kaz Sasaki...I know, he is out of baseball but not in ASB) and the other is the Phillies. It's fun but a let down just the same.
Anyway, everyone plays differently and some of what I do not like about this game is probably just habit from HH, etc. Overall I really do like it. The trick is not comparing it to what your used to but rather enjoying its merits.
One last thing...first game with the Phils I saw the Phantatic dancing on the dugout. That was all it took to hook me!!!!

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
I have played 3 MOM games now and feel that the offense is pretty good. A game I simmed was 2-1 but the ones I played were 4-1, 7-1 and 6-3. Another nice feature; the guys that dive actually get and stay dirty! No idea how they do it but it is cool. Oh, and the stealing is not quite as bad as I feared. Juan Pierre has like 2 SBs already. The walk-up music for my created player works great. I changed Wes Mailman to B Bonds with no problem. Have signed some players to long term contracts. All very cool.

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
Thanks for the preview. Hopefully my "check is in the mail",so to speak. Amazon needs to get busy.
Would be interested in the pitch counts with generated turned OFF. and with it turned ON.
Also, are the cpu substitutions in manage mode fairly intelligent.
Thanks .Comment

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
I am not certain of the pitch counts but I have been not been using the generated ones. Millwood made it through 7 innings. So did Padilla and Contreras. The counts seem better than the ones I remember in HH2003. Lots of foul balls too. Not a ton but enough to make it seem real. The substitutions are okay. When a pitcher was getting knocked around, he got yanked. I have been stolen against and the CPU tried to bunt on me once too. I cannot think of anything in the game that has not made sense so far, gameplay wise that is.
