Wow. Those are my thoughts exactly...only substitute EA for Acclaim and make game plural...as in 99% of the EA sports game(S) I have played over the last couple of years (NCAA being the exception) have been a disaster.

I feel pretty much the same about EA. NCAA has been their only game in recent years to hold my attention. However I have gotten enough good feedback from people I trust that have played this years MVP, to give it a shot this year.

I thought last year's zone hitting was the best "feel" of any of the pitcher-batter interfaces on the market aside from High Heat. And when I played seasons side-by-side in ASB and HH, the ASB zone hitting produced batting stats that were closer to what actually happened in the majors last year - even with constant tweaking of the HH sliders.

I suppose I never really was too concerned about the majority of the hits going toward the middle of the field (can't even remember). But I don't see how that makes the gameplay "putrid" or a game even hardcore baseball gamers - who were buying all the other games sight unseen - wouldn't even consider the following year.

To each his own, I guess.

Here's a question: Suppose all of your issues with the gameplay were addressed this year? Would you even know or care?

Looks like EA's paying to fly people up to spend a few hours playing its game is really paying off. I've seen a lot of people like bkrich who are going with MVP after reading sdrotar's and nivek's comments..even though there are plenty of negative things to say about MVP. (MVP's closers come in for the last out of the game? That's ok, I'll switch teams all the time and put in the other team's closer myself. The bullpens in MVP warm up in the 4th inning for no apparent reason? That's ok, won't bother me. No matter what's wrong with the game, sdrotar and nivek had fun playing it for a few hours so it must be great.)

If you're so willing to give EA another shot based upon the "good feedback from people that [you] trust," how come you don't apply that same logic to ASB? The only guy whose impressions I've seen on ASB around here so far has been Steve. And even though he said that he HATED ASB last year, he seemed to really like the game this year after spending a week or so playing the beta. I could care less if you don't like ASB or Acclaim, but I have to at least point out what looks to me to be a double standard.

Some of the MVP problems that were mentioned by reviews or impressions - like the ball getting away and no one going after it, allowing you to freely round the bases - are the same things that people were calling game breakers in ASB last year. But with MVP they just shrug and say it doesn't bother them or they'll find some way to get around it. Meanwhile they refuse to even take a look at the new ASB.
