Re: MLB 2K5 WS Edition Impressions Thread

Well, after playing a bunch of games last night, I know why I put the first one away so quickly. This game is a pain!
At first the rosters looked manageable (move a stray player here and there) but the more teams I played against, the more I saw that the rosters are half baked. The regular season was over already, this game should have not been released until every player was on their correct team. They definately falsely advertised this in a big way!

For anybody thinking about purchasing the game, it does not warrant a purchase! Wait for the spring installment to arrive next season!

On a pick up and play game, if you use the classic teams the names are generic. I don't know about the games in World Series moments, those are locked as I mentioned before.

MLB2k5 was the first game I have ever seen to make the cursor center defaulted if you release the stick. I wonder which genius developer came up with that idea.

Read my intial post again it gives a more in def explanation.
Okay, ya'll are pissing me off because you have no idea what he's asking in his question.

Fortunately for you, catcatch22, ehh asked it earlier, and it was answered.

Here's how I described it to jim416 (because he was confused):

And here's how it was answered.

It still has the same damn cursor.

leave it there without holding the stick

            Mornin' everyone.

No, the cursor springs back if you leave go of the stick. You have to hold it or it will just BOING spring back to the center. That's what made it so cumbersome. It's not like the cursor in ASB where you can start by moving the cursor down in the zone anticipating a low pitch and then move it up. You have to HOLD the stick in the down position. It makes the cursor shake actually.

              totalownership,

Had a ball go over the outfielders head as before. I was turning around and, woops, there it went.

The animations are exactly the same.

Quick question. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in this thread, apologies if I missed it. Do you still get strange roster errors in franchise mode? Like guys listed in two positions, stuff like that?

I went to franchise to try it out and all was well, however, that may have happened when you were doing a lot of trading, signing free agents and making lineup adjustments and I didn't try that.

Thankyou Jim, I guess I won't be getting this game. I was hoping they got the cursor right. Oh well I might as well go back to ESPN 2k4. It played a great game of baseball, just bad commentary, player graphics and presentation where 2k5 has great commentary, graphics and presentation. Or I'll get All Star baseball infact I'll get it today. Thanks for the info.

The main thing that would get me to buy it would be a full manage only mode, where you can manage the game while it played out in 3D. So I'll pass on this one since I have 2K5 and still play it. I'll wait to pick up the 06 offering, hopefully they'll have a 360 version then also.

                          CatCatch,

I'm finishing up an ASB2k5 roster. I had put one out about a month or so ago. Unfortunately you can't save rosters and then apply them to the team you want to be in a franchise, so, I made up the WASHINGTON ADMIRALS, traded all the Nationals onto this team. The CPU generated a EDMONTON WEASELS team.

I went back and traded any players that should have been on their particular team back to that team, so all other rosters are current, including creating all the new guys, Brandon McCarthys, Ervin Santana, etc., etc.

If you're interested I'll be posting it soon. Only drawback, you have to play as the Washington Admirals (Nationals). With the tweaks and all it plays a good game of ball, check swings, great animations and stadiums, etc.

It is very boring! You did the right thing on taking a pass on it.

The game is not that boring to me, it's like a breath of fresh air. Now, go play MVP Baseball for 2-3 years and talk about boring. Granted MVP was solid this year with gameplay and other features, I just was bored.

I didn't own the previous edition of this game, so maybe I'm not too aggravated with 2K/Kush with this release. I could care less for Pennant and WS mode but they are a nice addition when I get bored with GMCareer.

I am peeved at these rosters. They are older than 8/27, I know this because this was the date that Matt Lawton was traded from the Cubs to Yankees. WSE gets released 10/19, how come they couldn't get these rosters updated around the end of September? I think this has to be the biggest thing on my part since I don't know as much about the problems from before.

I have read here through over 21 pages that a lot of the bugs have been cleared up. I think that this is what we expected, them to fix the bugs.

I think the game is worth the price of admission especially if you never played this before. I am working on a set of rosters and will try to get them to be better than this crap offering. Even for those that have the original, I think they fixed enough things from reading here and added a few things.

The rosters are my beef and I know others are mad that old save files don't work.

I agree with you man, this game is fun to me.

I didn't play the first version all that much so I'm liking this so far. The true aim batting seems smoother to me, maybe I was just terrible when I first played it though.
