Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
Went and watched some Show 08 vids and honestly I feel that 2K8 is better graphically in STILL motion by a long shot, but once the game starts moving the Show blows it away. We'll just have to wait and see if the vids improve for 2K8..."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

"We've had a preview build of MLB 2K8 for a few days now"
I think we just have different opinions on this game. I didn't think it was very good post-patch last year as the gameplay was lacking and the presentation (Joe and Jon mainly) was poor IMO. Other's thought it was good. One thing's for sure....at least we have another choice. Sucks that it requires owning another console for some, but there is a choice.Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
Alright, I haven't read through this whole thread, just skimmed the last few pages, so sorry if I'm rehashing what someone already said, but...
I'm disappointed by the vids. It doesn't look like they changed very much from last year. All the talk about hitting being much more realistic? Mark Reynolds takes one deep off the right field wall, and he's a righty. That doesn't happen very often in real life. Also, I hope that was somebody playing as David Ortiz in that at-bat, because no way he takes one right down the middle like that on an 0-2 count in real life. I realize I'm totally nitpicking, but these are the things I expect when 2K comes out and says they are trying to make this into the best game of SIM baseball around.
Still looks like a lack of fouls, and pitchers throwing balls. The pitch meter looks unnecessarily complex, hopefully it will be better once we can actually try it out, I'm holding judgment on that. I hope the homeruns shown were just for the sake of exciting videos, and not a sign that homers will be easy again this year.
Honestly, with all the issues in gameplay last year, I just started a franchise and simmed most of the games and played GM. If the franchise is significantly improved from last year then I'll be happy, but I'm seriously worried about the gameplay shown in these videos. It doesn't look like a major step up, like Brinkman talked about. It looks far too similar to last year.
Plus, recycled dialog!Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
I think really the only thing that is disappointing is the presentation. Main score overlay, walk-up cameras, fielding camera & home run camera (and somewhat disappointed in the batting camera, though more impressed than last year), Jon & Joe, crowd, bat sound, etc.
Visually, the colors seem to be much more right on than the first pictures showed, and they did promise 60 FPS, so I think there's no worry there. We also saw proper hit variety, and this new pitching thing looks pretty wicked. But on the presentation level, I think they downgraded a bit. That just may be me, though.Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
After watching the videos (finally) I am a bit dissapointed.......they seem to have done NOTHING in terms of presentation or little details as we all figured they most certaintly would. The gameplay also to tell you the truth doesn't look like it has really turned around from where it was. It will feel new for about 10 games and then we will realize that it is 2k7 with a couple new mechanics. Of course it IS only about 4 minutes worth of footage but things that would take any time to put in there aren't there as we thought they would be which dissapoints me so it doesn't matter how much footage we see. I pre ordered the game today and it's staying that way no matter what happens at the very least the game appears to have made some strides. But some of the things that we expected to see that aren't there are just glaring things such as homerun celebration. It's almost like the joke is on us and the team is sitting there laughing. I really REALLY expected to see something there for that or at least some presentational elements we have been asking for for a year now.
Yeah not upgrading the presentation level to something at least comparable to the "SHOW" is a direct kick square to the NUTS of 2k8 fans.Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
LOL!
I agree.
I think they're wrong. I mentioned it above, but the game releases on 3/4. They can't develop up until that time, get it tested internally and then send it to MS and Sony to pass their testing/certification process and then stamp out a ton of DVD's and ship them out.
If I were a betting man I'd bet that development is done at least 1 month before the release date.Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
Well there was no mention of choppiness in the preview, when he said they had a month to clean up the "player models, and stadium close ups" ... so maybe it is a video thing.
If it was this bad, I would think the preview would mention it.
As far as having a month left. They could have a newer version of code at 2K's office, that just needs patching over what you saw. And this here can be the earlier preview version. A lot of games are like that. The final pass with get patched in before they send it off for certing.
Some of the stuff we see now could already be corrected. But who knows. Trying to be optimistic among all the pessimism.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 01-25-2008, 10:46 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

The previewer stated they've had it for a few days now:

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
After watching the videos a couple of times each the choppyness is 100% NOT the game. I know what the game would look like if it was choppy as the video shows. The chop is the video I can promise that.Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
Hard to tell much about the presentation from those 4 vids. They appear to be edited. About the only thing that's clear is the commentary appears to be unchanged, as in nothing new added.Comment
