I have seen this happen with tons of games. They have an approved code to send out, while they have a newer build at the office still being tweaked, that isn't approved for public use or viewing. Also the videos seem "lacking" because the monkeys recording them were skipping the majority of the presentation.

That is why it is a "preview build" and not a "review build"!

I'm sure the build wasn't the most recent, but it probably wasn't from 2 months ago either. My guess is the code is 1 build before what they're currently tweaking. This late in the dev cycle, they're probably just fine tuning a few things and not really making major changes to the code due to the problems that could cause (ie: implement something large and it breaks something else).

I'm just basing this off what I've seen in software dev shops in the past. 2K could do it much different than any place I've worked, but most seem to follow similar standards.

Ya I mean after Brinkman said that this game was going to be pretty much GODLY it just doesn't add up that there would still be so many glaring bugs and misshappenings and lack of really anything we asked for still in this NEW version of the game. There has definitely gotta be a finish copy sitting in the office with everything fixed cutscenes and presentation of homer celebration bug fixes etc. It wouldn't make sense otherwise.

You know, Brinkman said that gameplay was their focus this year. He never mentioned presentation.

It's possible that they'll try to get presentation down in Year 3.

People keep forgetting that this entire franchise needed to be redone. It's not the Show where 08 is I think the fifth iteration of a good product.

I remember when the Show was rebuilding their game people hated it. Now it's comparable to High Heat and MVP. Man, people hated MVP2003 and some even hated 2004. Now they talk about 2005 like God crafted it.

I'm not here to get all upset that people like The Show instead. Good. It probably is the better baseball game. But to say that MLB2k8 is horrible based off four videos that showed me nothing is, for lack of a better word, stupid.

The game is making it's improvements, albeit subtle. Just try to remember how subtle The Show was making improvements before it was glorified as the Best Baseball Game on the Market.

It's just funny to me because I defended the Show back when it was becoming a good product and fanboys all over were talking about how bad it was.

"You like The Show? It's a Sony product. HAHAHA! Enjoy another disappointment in baseball."

I heard the same for MVP2003.

Now it's the same for MLB2k8.

History repeats itself so many times and gamers don't even realize how dumb they sound most of the time.

I'll enjoy my copy of MLB2k8 when it comes out. You guys can send me PMs on how bad of a product I'll be playing come March. When I'm enjoying my game of baseball, that's all I'll care about at the end of my 9-inning game.

The only thing that bothered me out of all 4 videos was the lighting in the Fenway game. It seems very very dark- and I think someone mentioned that it could be a dark day game- but either way it just looked strange. The lighting in the bleachers in cf was like "spot" lighting rather than flood lighting like you see in real life. And, the Monster Seats were just strange... there certainly were dark cardboard cutouts up there.... just weird.

Overall, these videos didn't 'Wow" me like I had hoped- but they were promising enough for my tastes. I just wish we could see some night games that have better lighting than those ugly Fenway vids.

Remember when High Heat was presented by Sammy Sosa?

                    "It's so real!"

I remember the laughter might have lasted 8 months long. I laughed too.

The next year, everyone wanted High Heat.

"OMG, I just splurged, it really is so real! Sammy tells the truth, man!"

Gamers. I just have to laugh at them. At us.

Personally, I don't get it. I've said it many times, but until one of these companies pays me money to support them, I'm not going to do so.
We do it in everyday life. The Steelers aren't paying me anything to be a fan. Microsoft versus Apple, Xbox vs. Playstation, dog lovers vs. cat lovers... people invest themselves emotionally and feel like they "win" when the side their backing wins. That's not surprising at all to me. With this particular issue regarding this game, I don't think it's an issue of 2K fans being overly defensive. It just seems to be extremely finicky to see people essentially say the game is going to suck, or that the developers did little/nothing to improve the game, based on the extremely short vids that were shown last night. That weren't anywhere near that bad to begin with.

As horrid as Live 06 was, I don't think people savaged Live 07 when the videos first released. And imo it didn't look very good. And you still get people that say if you change 18 of every players attributes, fix the sliders a certain way, adjust the camera a certain way, and boil the disk, it plays a decent game of basketball. Speaking personally as a longtime OS'er, I'm just contrasting what I've been reading here versus what I've read in other forums over the years w/the data provided. Just seems out of whack

But also remember, constructive criticism certainly does not hurt. Yes, saying the game sucks, isn't constructive, but neither are all the excuses. Both extremes fill up the threads more than constructive stuff.

The info on the game was released. The fact that IGN released stuff is not the point. It's there, there are somethings that need to be pointed out. Nothing wrong with that. That's what the forums are here for.

I try to ignore the fanboys and antifanboys (such a word?).

Oh yea, of course. Constructive criticism is great. I'm not really bothered that people don't like the game.

I'd probably be more upset if everyone was saying how great it was rather than pointing out what they don't like.

I guess I'm trying to act like crowd control. Call it a habit of my profession and experience. Something I'm also forced into in my personal life.

I figure if I remind people that even The Show was once "bad" that they'll remember 2k is working on their game.

Enough with the "rocket arms", because the throw is not the problem. It is the grass and the grass alone. The grass needs to be "higher". Also, we're on Earth... so the ball needs some sort of air resistance to push the other direction of which the ball is going. So, hopefully they can do something about that and then they can raise the velocity of the throws a bit.
