Oh, didn't read it all. But knowing how you found hitting so easy, this would sort of make it easier for guys like to you, as they say, "smash it out of the park". It's one of the things I thought they had backwards and one of the reasons there weren't more balls thrown in the game as the hitter was rewarded instead of the pitcher being penalized.

    Just seems that hasn't changed.

Whoever mentioned that the strike zone isn't good, pause the video during the Ortiz at-bat when the strike zone is showing. The strike zone is great. It's just above Shrek's knee and only about 6 inches above his belt. Anything at the letters or higher is going to be a ball. GOOD.
Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
      Sutcliffe comes through, and....
Pa, see what you did to me?

Yeah it would be nice if it was completley random and there are just as many bad pitches that are just balls. ex. A pitcher working Manny with fastballs away and he keeps missing but missing away. Very careful with him. Not giving him anything to hit. Hopefully it accurately portrays this and it doesn't make it random where you are going to miss middle in with a pretty decent accurate pitcher working away on the corner. I think hitting will be good because it's all about good bat to ball physics. Accurate. I can't wait to actually play this game or at least see this game played vs the cpu.

(seriously, the game calls an errant pitch a meatball) for the offense to smash out of the park.

We'll see, I guess, but this just smacks of the same problem as last year. Those "errant" pitches wind up right over the plate. If they've somehow made it random, then good.

I said that, and you're right... it is good. I just hope that they do what they can next year to make it just a little bit lower when it comes to the knees (and in doing that, I suppose lower on the top as well). But it is much better than years past.

              Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!

The night game lighting looks better to me. In the Ortiz video after he strikes out, check out the right-field bleachers. It looks like the sun is still shining on that section of the crowd as the night is getting darker. I'd certainly rather it got dark too quickly than too late, like in last year's game.

The Tulowitzki home run was believable. Yeah, the ball was down, but it was in, and it's not like he golfed it off the plate.

As for the wind, I'm sure the meatheads playing the game cranked up the settings to maximum wind. For all the hand-wringing about the jersey-flapping in 2K7, not ONCE did I notice it being absurd during a game.

I like how the pitcher interface shows you how badly you screwed up the previous pitch. It's a little like MVP when they would show a brief replay if you swung and missed REALLY badly.

As for the guy on second base diving back to the bag in the D-Backs video, it's Eric Byrnes, and he is most likely baked.

Looks like the pre-loading of throws works well, as Brad Hawpe's throw meter comes up before he picks up the ball in right field, making for a much smoother transition between fielding and throwing the ball.

I'm guessing this isn't a final build, unless 2K plans on representing the fans in Fenway on top of the Monster with cardboard cut-out silhouettes.

The more I look at these videos, the more optimistic I'm getting. IGN chose stupid videos, but I'm getting pumped up again.

I just noticed it's not as good for Jeter. Since Captain Intangibles leans over so much, his strike zone is more at the letters. You're right, though. It's a major improvement over years past.

I'm not going to read the whole thread, mostly because I'm 99% sure it will be the same type of posts that have plagued this forum for the last few weeks.

The videos showed that the hitting model has been completely redone IMHO. The hands-on impressions are far more important to me than a few quick clips. The hitting-pitching interface looks great though from initial impressions and I think I might actually throw a few balls with it, which is virtually impossible in other games.

I'm sorry I'm pretty darn disapointed in what I saw. I mean what the hell did they actually work on this whole year? It all has the exact same problems 2K7 did. As people have mentioned, it looks choppy, the ball goes clearly out of the park and yet the outfielder continusly runs into the wall over and over, the SS acts like he wants to cut off a potential throw, the excitement from fans is still non existent, the batting circle animations are exactly the same.

I mean what the hell?!? I was expecting these LITTLE THINGS to be fixed, and the fact that they are not is downright pathetic. I gave 2K7 a free pass last year on these issues because it was a transition period, but they have been working on 2K8 since 2K7 shipped and THIS IS WHAT WE GET?

Very disapointed. From what I've seen, Ben Brinkman is full of crap. He made it sound like this game was drastically different from 2K7 when in fact it's a carbon copy with dumb downed graphics now.

I heard a rumor that they were real busy making a new pitching interface, refining batting controls and physics, completely reworking the baserunning controls, improving ball physics and almost entirely redoing the fielding.

That's all fine and dandy, but it should literally take like 1 week to fix the errors I pointed out.

I'm sick of these same errors being in the game every single year while they redo the batting, redo the pitching, redo the fielding, redo the baserunning, blah blah blah. How about fixing the smaller things that immerse you into the atmosphere over slightly adjusting the hitting system, or the baserunning? I mean when I hit a homerun, and I see the outfielder run into the wall 3 times in a row and see the SS calling for a cutoff when he just watched it sail out of the stadium, I know 100% I'm playing a video game. The immersiveness is gone at that point.

Do you see where I'm going with this? Or are you going to take the fanboy aproach and just turn a blind eye to it?

gosh, you're right. If only fans fought over homerun balls and the digital players never made a step in the game that they didn't in real life then 2k7 would've been perfect.

I don't take the fanboy approach to any video game. Do I think it's funny that a runner on second dives back to the bag when the catcher simply throws it back to the pitcher? Of course, not even a second grader would do that. But as long as my guy isn't crab-walking back to second or sommersaulting into third, I can put up with something like that.

I'm not trying to convince you otherwise, I mean if those things are gamebreakers for you, then that's fine. You say you want all this corrected to feel more immersed, right? As if the two joysticks attached to the plastic controller in your hand wasn't enough to remind you that you're not in fact at the ballpark.

Again, if those things are enough to drive you away then that's fine. But perhaps you should withhold judgment from just four, 10-second clips on a Web site until you actually play the game.

I have both versions pre-ordered, the 360 and PS3 versions and I don't plan on cancelling them. As I said before, I played over 300 games of 2K7, all offline and had a great time. I'm sure the same will be for 2K8. However, I am sick and tired of them not fixing things like this. If the franchise lineup glitch is still in the game I will be very, very angry and will probably spend all my time playing The Show 08.
