Just ignore them. They are the vocal minority. The sales speak for themselves. They think cause they know a few that agree (wow imagine that, people who are friends with like minded opinions) the whole world agrees.

Lets talk about baseball. So ... the new mode ... I hope it isn't IGN being clueless, and having it be "minor league teams, or player cards" that have been known for quite a while now.

Anyways, g'nite all, and I hope IGN has their screenshot section working. They always muck it up!

And hopefully this is something we can get, but doubt it really. Some of these sports game makers cant afford to do this when they have to pump them out year after year.

Both The Show and this use last gens engines, with next gen code written. Instead of engines built from the ground up sadly.
Agree look how well fifa 08 came out to be finally...that game is pure perfection. the game recieved two gameplay patch updates.

Please don't get me started on Madden - it's bad enough about a third of this thread is about The Show. People are still able to make legitimate arguments Madden isn't better than it's last gen counterpart. And I think if you stick Madden PC up against Madden 360/PS3, you'd have people saying they prefer the PC version (which seems to still be based on the last gen version). That's what they seemed they were using when they baited and switched for those dev blogs people went crazy over.

Wasn't the cat let out of the bag about the trading cards and the minors on THEIR podcast with the guy who did the main testing with this preview copy? I don't think Hillary would forget about that.........anyways I am off to bed as well hopefully more info will be out tomorrow as I am left feeling disappointed.

Are you kidding me man??? You have no issues with EA Sports games??? Hell, you can play what you want. But Its more than just me and "the cool kids" who feel this way. EA sales are down. It speaks for itself.

Here is the answer from the devs of the Show, after this being spotted and called out. Hope this brings the focus back to MLB2K8 and not a "well, don't talk about this game when that game does this" thread. And, BTW, we don't know what settings these IGN guys played on either. This video tells nothing except that it is noticeably choppy.

              Kolbe's answer:
Ok, so I emailed and spoke to the programmer responsible for our pitcher batter interface and here's what he had to say (Edited somewhat for clarity and well... to dumb it down - this guy is very detailed!):

              Dev's answer to Kolbe's email:
              Quote:
I'd agree with what they're saying and the game has been tuned halfway there this year. There's a lot more issues at hand than they may be aware of. Also, it's important to play on at least All-Star (Hall of Fame would be even more realistic) to get a realistic challenge and result, otherwise all your batters are a little bit better to make the game accessible for the average user and for practice purposes.

I'm not sure what the scale they're talking about, as far as a pitch "middle in". If it's right on the edge, in this year's game you're never going to hit it for an opposite field homerun with a normal batter based on skill..that is, without the help of strong winds, a short stadium, a dead hanging curve, or cheating (direct or indirect). This year, you'll see down to a fraction of an inch where pitch location is, using the Pitcher-Batter Analysis. If were talking about a strike 3-4 inches inside the SZ edge, I don't see why A-Rod can't hit a few of those HRs during the season. Or why a perfectly average-power hitter like Abreu can't hit it to deep opposite field. Our game does give you about an extra inch for this purpose and timing purposes.

              Kolbe:
There you have it, from the horses mouth. We do always try and make it more and more realistic, but we also have to keep in mind the casual player and, dare I say, our older players

Based on this feedback and conversation we have had some preliminary discussion about further separating All-Star and Hall of Fame difficulty levels even more next year.

Yes I can be serious. I am more excited for this game then any other game considering the gameplay has been improved and hitting is completley overhauled. I just think the player models how "boxxy" they look is something from the 90's. It probably is too.

                  Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!

so any word on why the video looks so choppy? I mean i thought the game is supposed to run at 60 fps...it looks like its running at 20 in the video. Im guessing this has to do with the uploading of the video, or maybe because its an early build. But the ball seems to jump once it i out of the pitchers hand and this would make hitting difficult. Anyone know if this is a real problem or will the final game be ok?

Like someone posted earlier, I watched the HD vids and they were choppy. The SD videos were a lot smoother to me.

                      Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!

Regrettably the graphics and brief gameplay did not do anything for me. THis game is clearly less of a visual game than last year...The field/grass textures IMO were closer to Ps2 quality as opposed to giving me a feel of next gen.

I realize you can't judge this game on any of the videos but the 1st video being a HR right off the bat (no pun intended) gave me some real concerns.

Having played the SHOW for a few months now I may be spoiled

In Boston Cano's jersey is flapping all about. The cloth physics look as same as they did last yr. The IGN dude said it was "wonky"...how bout still screwed up looking.

It's funny that we get told HR's are down in 2K8, but in 4 vids we see two homers...not to say that the guys hitting them aren't capable, but...
Yeah, that is what I thought about the HRs. Could have been the difficulty it was set but the vids did worry me a bit..Maybe that is why they waited sooo long...Kind of looked and played like last year..the players look dead and stiff.

I think (I'm hoping anyway) that those videos were played on a very easy level and this is why those results occurred. Pitches middle in or even right down the middle are not hit that far to that extreme opposite field. They can be muscles out or pushed the other way in situational hitting situations (Pedroia comes to mind) but no way no how are they being hit with that much authority the other way. It's just simple physics.

This isn't disputing anything you are saying just using your quote to show what I am referring to.

Dave, understanding that you have found hitting way to easy I just read the impressions and saw this.

start the motion and force us into a hit-or-miss situation where our pitcher would toss up a fat meatball (seriously, the game calls an errant pitch a meatball) for the offense to smash out of the park.

Isn't this the same as last year? When you "missed" lining up zone pitching for example, the batter got rewarded with a fat pitch instead of the pitcher being penalized with a ball out of the zone.
