    Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!

IMO this game does not compare to The Show from what I saw in them videos.. I own a PS3 so I will buy both, then decide for myself. Only one thing I want to see from 2K is total team control, if they have that then I can deal with the rest. What is up with the flappy uniforms though? I havent played a 2K title game so Im not sure of all the features. Was there a F5 Tornando heading to Fenway on the doppler? Like I said, IMO the player models to me sucked, I was really shocked from what I saw this year.ANd gameplay looks choppy.Hope I am wrong this year.

Perhaps. But it was gamers that hyped themselves into a frenzy, then got mad that some 1-min videos didn't justify their hype. Personally I don't see where the game looks anywhere near as bad as some of the more hardcore naysayers are making it out to be - I thought it looked really good myself. But again, I'm a novice when it comes to baseball so I'm not qualified to comment on much regarding the nuances of the game. But there were a LOT of people that were saying the video was so bad that they were basing purchase determinations based off four 1-min videos. Give me a break. Their perogative of course, but I don't see where the game looked anywhere near that bad to write it off. Or to justify the near-constant "[these videos] are the reason I'm glad I got a PS3 for The Show!" proclaimations. And especially when I've been around OS long enough to see how some people will bend over backwards to give certain sports games the benefit of the doubt when they don't deserve it. I wouldn't put this game in that category.

Perhaps a lot of the over the top negativity is from the perceived lack of attention 2K has shown relative to what's been shown w/The Show. Perhaps it's blowback for 2K having exclusivity on the 360. While I do think 2K could've done a better job of getting video out themselves, I don't see where they needed to be reactionary to what was being done with the other game.

        Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!

I wonder if the choppiness has to do with the game being played in HD and not SD and not the feed? I see a lot of people are saying the SD videos play fine, but HD is choppy. In other words, if you play on an SD set you'll be fine, but an HD set will cause problems.

Didn't this same problem affect MVP05? I thought I had to change settings in the dashboard of the original Xbox to get it to play without stuttering. I could be wrong though.

The ball did slow down once it hit the ground. And it seemed to get progressively slower as it rolled. It's debateable whether that progression was dramatic enough, but to say "it's no different from last year/they didn't listen to anything" is overreaching imo. And I'm not knowledgeable regarding outfielders' arms, but I seem to recall at least some players having the ability to throw the ball from the outfield to 3rd base or home plate. Either way, I had a problem w/the rocket arms last year (and the year before) and it looked better to me. Perfect? Hard to say off one video to me, but if you want to say they didn't address it at all based off those 10secs - with IGN playing no less - be my guest

you mean the throw from RF to 3rd base that rolled the last 30 feet? It was VERY realistic. From the right field corner, most, if not all, major league right-fielders can put enough on the ball to get it to 3rd base....not on the fly, but in a similar way to the video.

The fact that the throw died and the runner was safe by a mile, makes it all the more important to hit the cutoff man. Really, that's where the throw should have gone, but the people playing that game SUCKED.

i think the game looks fantastic.

If you look at the homeruns that were hit, they were all smashed off of the barrell of the bat....not like last year.

Yes the cutoff man didnt cut it off. I am not talking about that. I am talking about how the ball landed in the OF and skipped and rolled all the way to 3B. That is highly unrealistic.. and if the 3B didnt stop it, it would have rolled into the dugout. It didnt look like it slowed down a bit when it hit the dirt and grass. The grass and dirt friction is nonexistent. Its like the whole field is made of glass.

The problem is the ball didn't die. It continued to bounce/roll with force all the way to 3rd. That's due to the lack of air and ground friction programming, it's unrealistic, and it's been a flaw in the series for years.

The lower res videos, are computer compression NOT the game being played in standard def. It is the SAME game resolution, just the encoding for the video is lower.

I think they had some "hiccups" when they encoded the high res videos, versus the lower res videos. That has nothing to do with in game res.

They are the same game res, just the outcome when making the video files on the PC is different.

Basically the game has had serious issues (sorry for the brevity) for years now and the 2k8 vids only confirmed that some/many of these issues will be back for an encore in March. And b/c Brinkman is working on it people thought that a piece of pie was going to come down from the heavens yesterday and it didn't. Instead those 2k8 vids fell out of the clouds.

This whole thread is crazy. If you are gonna buy 2k8 - you just appreciate new footage. If you are gonna buy the show - have fun. If you are undecided - wait for the demo. All the rest of this discussion is just pointless.

It seems like there were a lot of people looking for an excuse to hate on this to make their Show purchase they had planned all the better. There are legitimate gripes, but there is also a lot of BS in here.

It seems everyone needs to change there stance to a wait and see. Apparently IGN just got the game not that long ago. So the games probably not on a higher difficulty. So most things that we're seeing won't be seen on the level people here play on. Also, with such a small amount of footage being shown its tough and kind of unfair to jump top the conclusions most people are jumping to.

Wait for more evidence before you throw this game to the dogs. Four minutes of footage doesnt justify the last 30 pages of complaints.

Noticed on the dive play that when the pitcher covers third, the thirdbaseman is just standing there and looking into the stands over the firstbase dugout. Notice the replay scene how he's just shuffling his feet, staring straight ahead. Hope this is addressed and not common. Remember two years ago there was a problem with the 3rd baseman not charging bunts. It got fixed the next year, but this "inactive" thirdbaseman is a little bothersome. Just hope that we don't see the pitcher covering 3rd too much.

The throw from the outfield that went all the way to third. A hiccup, I hope, as that ball should have been cutoff.

Beautiful game, just hope it's not full of little head scratching bugs like this.
