    FatPitcher,
My question for you is I wanted to know if you read the recent article at IGN.com regarding their playing a 93% build and that they felt that the game is taking a step back from recent year's additions? I can't link very well but i'll try. Just wanted to know your opinion.

Actually, I quite honestly think that they (by they I mean Jon Robinson (no relation)) only didn't like two modes, which were the Duel Mode and FPM. I honestly believe that while FPM has its many flaws this year, they aren't spending enough time with it. It took me up until a month ago until I start to now only play FPM in ESPN Football... I rarely ever play 3rd person now... people take one review (and the word "gimmick"), give it a try, and give their opinion BEFORE trying it... no self-esteem.

As for the Duel Mode, I'm not liking it TOO much (I think the hitter may have a big advantage and will spend too much time at the plate), however, Jon called it "laughable". Care to explain, Jon? It didn't sound very bad, but if it's just another unrealistic mode, not to mention replacing Big League Challenge, then I see the disappointment in it, but I don't see where it is on the lines of "laughable".

The only other things that they said was that this game will be very pleasing to lovers of WSB 2K3's gameplay, because it is that with the fixes and many add-ons (turbo, confidence meter, pitching meter, zone hitting, GameCastm etc.). In order to get a more in-depth analysis and to further narrow down the choices, I figure that we may need to either watch more videos, get some other opinions, or play it ourselves.

Jon Robinson from IGN is the one who made that 'sega fanboy' comment last summer, fyi.

Are there any "bonus" teams in the game? In the new Giambi interview video over at ESPN Videogames, it looked like he and the other guy in the video were playing a game between NYY (Yankees) and USA (?). Any info on this?

      Thanks,
      Duane

Yeah, there are multiple "all-star" teams this year: AL East, AL Central, AL West, NL East, NL Central, NL West, Dominican Republic, USA, International, and Venezuela. (I think the roster cutoff date for these teams may have been a bit earlier than for the regular rosters, so A-Rod might be on the AL West instead of AL East.)

He obviously has an axe to grind (and probably a mouth full of Canadian bacon...not the pizza topping). The only reason you ever see a negative preview on a game is when the person writing it has their own agenda.

I know for a fact that several magazines and websites are going to give us very positive reviews, which makes what this guy said look even more biased and ridiculous. I think IGN was too nice to us last year, so maybe it's a "make-up call" or something. I respect people who have legitimate criticism, but this guy's obviously not impartial.

                        Re: Any questions?

I think the issue here is that IGN has so many impressions articles these days that they don't hold back in their judgement.

Whereas a site like Gamespot does one generic preview for each game, IGN has daily updates, impressions, videos, etc...therefore they don't feel like they have to be kind in each one perhaps.

Even though the impressions today sounded harsh, I would still expect a high score from ESPN in the end. I think this was basically a shot at FPM and not much else. I'm sure the gameplay and graphics score will remain high like last year.
