Re: Two long time reviewers give their take on ESPN

Sorry - rushing out the door this morning, and didn't get a chance to read it.

Bill did a great job catching some of the issues in MVP, like leftys not hitting the ball as far, simmed player progression, etc.

Is this article concerning the bugs that seem to be cropping up in ESPN? Counts resetting? Runs scoring on a third out? Maybe he has fixes - I'd like to see what he has to say on that - I'll check it later.

Or you could just ask me directly. Not like I don't post here. I haven't seen the bugs (yet) that some are reporting. Most of the issues I have seen in ESPN concern sound. Miller will say that team X is coming up when in fact team Y is. I also see some weird AI fielding logic at times; a pitcher trying to throw out a runner at 2nd on a sac bunt, that sort of thing. Now that could be seen as a good thing. Players make mistakes in baseball. If it happens rarely, it's great...if it happens 7/10 times, it's a problem. I also don't like that you can cut off the color man while he's talking. Parts of the game feel a bit sloppy.

I read that someone had a bug where the ball vanished and the game had to be reset. That would definately suck, but it hasn't happened to me yet and if something like that happens every 100 games or so, I couldn't care less. Nor have I had a count reset or a runner score on a 3rd out after the out is made. Very hard for me to comment on things that I haven't experienced. Not that I don't believe people when they say the see something, but I don't do 'forum reviews'. That's a very dangerous game.

After one day, ESPN (about 5-6 games) is a lot of fun and plays a much better game than it did last year and the fact that it's scoring lower than WSB2K3 mystifies me. If it turns out to be a buggy mess with extended play, then so be it. I'll shelf it just like I have the monumentally disappointing MVP, the unrealistic ASB and stale MLB. OOTP6 comes out this month, so it's not like I'll be hard up for a baseball game regardless of how ESPN ends up when it's all said and done.

Oh, and for the record, I didn't discover the lefty bug in MVP 2004. Dunno who that was, but it wasn't me.

Well I went into Situation mode and indeed..they are scoring runs incorrectly with two outs. I wonder how often that will occurr in-game? Regardless, this is just sloppy, sloppy, programming. Damn it.

                  Bill,
I wonder if this could be limited to situation mode. When I was playing exhibition games, I got the third out several times with a runner on third and I don't recall a run being posted. Of course I don't recall if the third out was a long flyball or a routine grounder to 2nd so I can't say for sure.

I just wonder if it's just some crazy bug that pops up in situation mode only.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

I just tried multiple times to reproduce this in a real game situation, and it does not happen.

Which is odd, you would assume Situation uses the same logic as in-game logic.
