Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

just a reminder on something here, guys:

i have the cpu hit power VERY high, typically higher than most other slider creators here. but i do this because it helps players drive the ball more. with that said, you have to be willing to alter the OF speed a bit or this game will turn into an arcad-ish hit fest. also, we are all well aware that throwing animations by the outfielders slows them down. so you have to make some compensations... just wanted to clarify. thanks for the feedback and i'm glad you guys are enjoying them!!

co-sign. these sliders make this game as fun as any baseball game i have ever played.

i like the show, but i cannot read pitches as well as i can on this game. i have not tried the show 11 yet with the custom camera though.

Hey guys. What you might want to try, as far as the camera angle goes, is to put the camera (when batting) as directly behind the pitcher as you can. It won't obscure the view of the ball, still looks very realistic and WILL allow you to get a good glimpse of the ball. I have pitch speed at 60. I can't remember if I set it that way or if by default it's set at 60, but it's slow enough (yet not 'floaty') for me to read the flight of the ball.

To the OP, with your sliders I'm seeing very few attempted steals by the AI, and it seems darn near impossible to get my own guys to go, even if I'm holding down the L1 trigger. Any thoughts on this?

Otherwise, everything else seems pretty good.

Oh, I almost forgot. In consecutive games I've seen where the opposing pitcher can't throw the ball anywhere BUT just below the strike zone, down the heart of the plate. I had five guys walk in an inning, with just about every single pitch going to the above-mentioned spot. The guy had to be pulled by his AI manager. Why did that occur?

It happened to me too in one game only. The pitcher started throwing every single pitch down below the strike zone till it was subbed.

that is probably a perfect storm of a pitcher with overall low control, composure rating/slider so after 1 or 2 walks his pitches just got whacky, and with that many pitches in the inning it'd only get worse after a few.

                sometimes it happens...

now, if this is an every-game occurrence, then we have a slider problem. but this is a player attribute specific issue, and makes the game come to life.

the one thing i love about mlb 2k11, that i don't always find in other games, is that the ratings REALLY DO MATTER. player ratings are not just a generic/vanilla approach, but have meaning specific to player abilities...sliders only help to enhance this.

we don't want each game to be 2-1 or 3-2. we can allow that occasional 11-8 game because that's REAL baseball...

Quick questions guys what do you have the INJURY slider at in your franchise. I have mine at 32 and still get atleast one injury per game. Was wondering what the best setting for this would be. Thanks in advance.

just finished up an mlb today game.. i played the Rangers and Rays playoff game, i got beat, but a very solid game bc of the sliders.

                    Rays 1-6-0
                    Rangers 6-11-1 (1HR)

they put 5 up in first 2 innings, then i settled down pitching wise.

i had bases loaded, 1 out, Upton at the plate, then hit into a 1,2,3 double play.. bah!! lol

they added another in btm of the 8th and that was it..

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching

Been playing this a bunch over the last week or so as the season winded down. These sliders really make for just fantastic gameplay.

For whatever reason, I have to really bump the power slider way up. Otherwise, for me, these sliders have resulted in the most realistic video game baseball I have ever played.

The key is in the walks. I can play a game with Carpenter and get buy with just a walk or two, or throw Westbrook, and find myself getting in trouble early with the free passes.

And drawing walks is the same. I got into a nice groove and drew 12 walks in one game, and then five the next. These were from some weak Astro pitchers. But then brett Myers made me pay for not being a bit more aggressive at the plate when I started getting down to 0-2 and 1-2 counts. Basically, the game, with these sliders, force you to really react differently based on situations and personell.

Earlier, someone asked about drawing walks and a lack of patience. The tick I use is to consider the pitch count like a mini game. I consider 15 pitches a good offensive inning, even if I don't score. So I am looking for ways to take pitches, which affects my mindset.

That doesn't mean I don't have games where I find myself failing to force more than 7 or 8 pitches. But I start looking at that pitch count and I am trying to get back to an average of 15 pitches an inning. That usually takes a solid offensive inning with some walks. And pitcher fatigue is done so well, that you will get more balls later in the game.

2K did a a really nice job by focusing on pitch counts so heavily in this release. It's a great tool if you use it correctly.

awesome post, ceteris... you've got to lock in and get focused on EACH at bat with these. I played a game today in which I was as patient as I could be in the first 3 innings. I had ted lilly on the ropes, then i got stupid and started first-pitch swinging or down in 0-2 counts. i gave him rope and he took it...and it was to my detriment. but appreciate your kind words, and i'm glad these are achieving what i had hoped for!

I tweaked your silders a lil bit (I think only two numbers).

Yesterday I started to change player ratings based off the official 2k roster. I compared stats and ratings and changed what I thought needed a change. Because this needs very very much time I only did it for the Giants (I am a big fan of them) and the (damn) Dodgers.

After that I started a game with me playing the Giants vs. the Dodgers @AT&T Park.
And man was that damn awesome. It was simply the best and most realistic baseball game I played - EVER.

                            SPs were Surkamp and Eveland.

After Surkamp gave up 4 runs in the 4th inning I had to pull him off.
It was 5-3 for the Dodgers heading into the 9th.
Guerra came in for the Dodgers to save. He struck out one, then walked Whiteside.
I brought in Pat Burrell as Pinch Hitter.
After a 2-2 count he homered which made the game even at 5-5.
In the 10th Sandoval made a solo homer to bring in the win.

Oh my god this game made so much fun, I even can't tell you.

I have mine at 18, I have seen an acceptable and realistic number of injuries thus far.

Glad to see people still playing this game. I'm thinking about giving it another go. I'd like to use the Mets, but the late-inning framerate drop has me concerned.

This game is fun, and a nice alternative to The Show, which I still play religiously.
